A top fundraiser for Ben Carson quit his position on the presidential campaign's board on Wednesday as the retired neurosurgeon slips in the polls and struggles to demonstrate knowledge of foreign policy, the Wall Street Journal reported.

"I disagree with the campaign, but I’m hoping and praying that the concerns I have are wrong," Bill Millis told the Wall Street Journal. "I’m one, and they are the masses. And they decided to move forward with the campaign as is."

Millis, the heir to a sock manufacturer in North Carolina, has been a close ally of Carson's for about two years, according to the Wall Street Journal. He told the Journal that while he still supports Carson's bid for president, he does not believe that the campaign values his input anymore.

Millis said that he was unhappy with the the departure of Terry Giles, an adviser who ran Carson's exploratory committee and hired top campaign staff, according to the Journal

Carson campaign manager Barry Bennett told the Journal that Millis' departure would not have a big impact on the campaign.

"Mr. Millis is a member of the corporate board. Today, he resigned that position. He had no role in the campaign, and his departure will not alter the campaign in any way," he said.

This kind of story can happen on any campaign. You have early backers who have a lot of influence and access because they are the lifeline for a campaign starting out. They get less facetime and input as a campaign grows and donations from others, establishing large numbers of small donors, means that the candidate has to worry about pleasing a wider audience instead of just the handful of backers they started the campaign with.

This departure is nothing unusual or portentous. I do think Carson is slipping in the polls because he just isn't a very good retail pol and has little charisma to give speeches with. And he's such an amateur at politics overall. His campaign seems mostly about raising money, very little else. A lot like Herman Cain that way.

And we know how that story ended.

Yeah he slipped. Rubio and Cruz are within the margin of error.

From the Latest Polls, looks like the only ones that should remain are Trump, Cruz & Rubio. The others appear to be wasting time, money & space.

IMO?....

It seems we have confirmation the establishment money moved to Rubio. The long trail of 1-5%ers only hurt the establishment at this point.

It is usually the reverse in GOP primaries. There are usually a string of conservatives taking up 5-10% dragging down the conservative cause. This year it seems having Rubio and JEB! in the race has really pulled down the establishment candidates.

I am surprised how far back Rand Paul is. Rand Paul garnering 1% means Libertarians who usually support GOP candidates are probably throwing their support behind Cruz or Trump.

Or libertarians have decided that the GOP is fundamentally hostile to them and always will be.

I know I didn't vote in 2014 at all. I may not vote in 2016. I think I'm becoming an ex-Republican.

Once the GOP gets rid of all of us libertarian types, it will be clear sailing for the GOPe. No doubt. We were obviously their biggest problem all along.
