I am gainfully employed and have private insurance covering my family through my employer. I am not eligible for Medicare. Yet, I receive all kinds of emails, direct mailings and other advertising about Medicare all the tyme. What is Medicare? Is it another socialistic attempt to destroy my life-style? All I know, or think I know, is when you turn 65-years-old you have to (goobermint sez so) sign on for some sort of Medicare plan. I have a few friends in that age group. For example, if you're over 65 but still working and have health insurance through your employer, you can keep it and you don't have to sign up for Medicare. Yes, Medicare is free, but Medicare only covers hospital charges (Part A).
