Ted Cruz has come up with a novel idea that would likely be a first in American history. The Republican presidential contender challenged a termed out President Obama to debate him over remarks Obama made on Tuesday in the Philippines, where the president mocked GOP candidates for expressing concerns about the safety of American citizens in allowing Syrian refugees into the U.S.
Obama said the Republicans are scared of three-year-old orphans.
I want to encourage you, Mr. President, come back and insult me to my face, Cruz said. Lets have a debate on Syrian refugees right now. We can do it anywhere you want. I prefer it in the United States and not overseas where youre making insults. Its easy to toss a cheap insult when no one can respond, but lets have a debate.
Now thats a match up America would love to see, but Cruz wasnt finished.
I got to tell you, its utterly befitting of the president to be engaging in those kind of personal insults and attacks, he added.
Some on the left hyperventilated over Cruz daring to challenge the president, as if he intended to assault Dear Leader. But they conveniently overlook a number of occurrences where a petulant Obama called out those who fell out of favor with him, to include the U.S. Supreme Court during his 2010 State of the Union address.
The reaction on social media to Cruzs challenge was mostly in the spirit of fun, save the expected cynicism of the left.
