Sanders, during his first debate, made a dramatic statement to the public and said: “We are going to win because we are going to explain what democratic socialism is,” the Hill reported.

He went on then: “What democratic socialism is about is saying that it is immoral and wrong to say that the top one-tenth of one percent in this country own almost as much wealth as the bottom 90 percent.”

He cited Denmark as a case example of successful democratic-socialism.

Heytherenow...

Denmark is not the most successful democratic socialist. Go visit Denmark, Sander, and get your facts straight. Higher taxes and deeper in personal debts. Lower in educations. People there are so miserable, that the majority of them are alcoholics and on antidepressants.

What democratic socialism is about is saying that it is immoral and wrong to say that the top one-tenth of one percent in this country own almost as much wealth as the bottom 90 percent.”

It is not immoral to say it, it is immoral that it should be a fact. What democratic socialism is about is actually redistributing that wealth. What is forgotten is that the poorest people those with no ability to generate wealth are a bottomless pit into which you could pour all the wealth of the world and they still would not be significantly better off. If you learned nothing from the soviet experiment you should have learned that.

You can tax the wealthy to redistribute the wealth, all you do is convince them to move their wealth into tax havens and you don't get prosperity. Socialism is really about the state owning the means of production and state owned enterprises have a place in a developing country, but in a developed society greater sophistication is needed. You need a mechanism to mobilise capital so that the returns available from leaving funds on deposit are unattractive and the returns available from property ownership are inadequate. This might mean you have to turn western tax systems, which incentivise property ownership and static investment on thier head, afterall these systems have been put there by the wealthy to protect their investmenst

If you learned nothing from the soviet experiment you should have learned that.

The Soviet experiment was a lot more successful than you give it credit for, both in Russia and in China.

Before the Communist Revolutions, Russia had mass illiteracy, and literacy in China was at medieval levels. There was no universal education. What there was, were famines every decade or two, famines that killed a lot of people. And epidemics also: they didn't have anything like modern medicine.

The Soviet and Chinese Revolutions were brutal affairs, and many people died - one cannot sugar coat any of that.

However, once the nations stabilized under their Communist governments, they had universal education, and near universal literacy, and they stopped having famines, and they stopped having epidemics also. The Soviets were (and Russians still are) among the world's most impressive scientists, and the Chinese are rising in the sciences and engineerings. All of that is directly the product of Communism: universal education, universal health care and government assurance of the food supply - three utterly massive programs that took what were illiterate, ignorant, backwards societies relying on witchdoctors and brought them, in a generation, into the modern world.

Africa, which remained with the capitalist system of the colonial masters, STILL doesn't enjoy any of those things.

The Soviet Union collapsed because the Soviet leaders were mad for war preparation and were unwilling to rely upon nuclear weapons as the safeguards of their security. They vastly overspent on the military, and bankrupted themselves. THAT is the lesson that we SHOULD learn from the Soviet Empire.

China did not make that error, and the Communist Chinese economy, the legacy of the Revolution and the evolution of a nation that, thanks to Communism, has universal education, universal health care, and a stable food supply, is that China is now the largest economy in the world.

The Soviet rise from ignorance to being a world scientific power is a legacy of Communism. So is China's rise to the number one world economy.

One can easily dismiss these things with a wave of the rhetorical hand, but facts are stubborn things.

The excessive wealth concentrations in America will destroy the American system, because Americans, like everybody else in the world - like the French and the British, and the Chinese and the Russians - will not, in the end, allow themselves to be impoverished and simply serve the rich. It's not going to happen.

The rich can be clever, as they have been in Scandinavia and the Low Countries, and redistribute the wealth voluntarily. By establishing a high threshold for the bottom, those countries have not just improved the lives of their people, they have also even managed to preserve themselves as monarchs and nobles.

That's the best way: maintain the familial character of a nation, but redistribute wealth sufficiently to have universal education, health care and pensions, and secure the food supply.

The Soviets tell us that if you get the taste for military empire, you cannot afford all of the necessary things AND maintain a huge war machine.

Of course some folks will yowl like boiled cats at these truths, but they are truths nonetheless. If we're going to learn from the fall of the USSR and the rise of China, we need to look at the real legacy of Communism.

And when you look at Latin America, what country has the highest literacy rate, best medical system and longest life expectancy (as a result)? Cuba. Communist Cuba.

The track record of taking care of everybody is pretty good, actually.

The Communists mostly have done it. And the Scandinavian royalists. And the Western European and Canadian republicans of various fashions.

The REAL thing that wrecks countries' economies is endless war and endless arms buildups.

THAT is what destroyed the Soviet Union, and it is what is in the process of causing the United States to decline and fail. All countries can afford to feed and educate and care for all of their people. The land is fat enough for that. But no country can afford a huge military establishment. That will end up bankrupting even the biggest and the strongest: Rome, Spain, France, Germany, Britain, the USSR, and now the USA, all marching down that same path of folly.

We could learn the RIGHT lesson. There's a good chance that my interlocutors here will never get it, though.

GREENVILLE, Ohio (WRGT) — A violent attack was caught on camera in the Greenville, Ohio, Walmart store, and police say it happened when a customer became angry about another customer she thought cut her in line.

“She grabbed me and she was like wham!” the victim, Deanne Kenworthy, told FOX 45. “I mean she slammed me hard.”

What does your post mean, Boris?

A woman was attacked at Walmart. That's unfortunate. There's a lot of crime in America. Crime is the legacy of poverty and ignorance.

So what exactly is your point? I don't want to put words in your mouth. Why don't you just come out and say plain what you mean?

Good luck with that.
