The entirity of Western civilization is following a path of believing in the moral superiority of sacrificing itself for the pursueince of a supposedly noble mission described in continuously inspiring words without examining the reality beneath the rhetoric. It is collapsing because of the supremacy of belief in rhetoric over reality.
This is the same attitude of the nuclear disarmament movement. "If we put away our weapons, they will put away theirs"? "After all, are we not all human?" "do not those we call enemies love their children also"? "We will all hold hands and love one another, for we are smarter than our forefathers."

There are close parallels between the toleration of immigration arguments and the nuclear disarmament arguments. Both employ inspiring descriptive semantics. Whether the people involved are as human as described is questionable. As you grow older you find many people or groups of people are organically human but completely lacking in sentient conscience or rationality we attribute as characteristic of humanness.
