Obama rejects Keystone XL pipeline in win for greens

Obama Administration to Reject Application to Build Keystone XL Pipeline

U.S. President Barack Obama on Friday rejected the proposed Keystone XL oil pipeline from Canada in a victory for environmentalists who campaigned against the project for more than seven years.

"The pipeline would not make a meaningful long-term contribution to our economy," Obama told a press conference. He said it would not reduce gasoline prices, and shipping "dirtier" crude from Canada would not increase U.S. energy security.

The denial of TransCanada Corp's more than 800,000 barrels per day project will make it more difficult for producers to develop the province of Alberta's oil sands. It could also put the United States in a stronger position at global climate talks that start in Paris on Nov. 30 in which countries will aim to reach a deal to slow global warming.

U.S. Secretary of State John Kerry, who determined the pipeline was not in the country's interest before Obama's final decision, said approving Keystone "would significantly undermine our ability to continue leading the world in combating climate change."

Keystone XL would have linked existing pipeline networks in Canada and the United States to bring crude from Alberta and North Dakota to refineries in Illinois and, eventually, the Gulf of Mexico coast.

TransCanada first sought the required presidential permit for the cross-border section in 2008 but the proposal provoked a wave of environmental activism that turned Keystone XL into a rallying cry to fight climate change. Blocking Keystone became a litmus test of the green movement's ability to hinder fossil fuel extraction in Canada's oil sands.

"This is a big win," said Bill McKibben, co-founder of the environmental group 350.org which helped make Keystone a symbol of a movement to slow global oil output. Obama's decision "is nothing short of historic, and sets an important precedent that should send shockwaves through the fossil fuel industry."

What we have here is the emperor destroying good jobs so his good buddy Warren Buffett can continue to transport Canadian "dirty oil" by rail to the refineries. "...Alberta still exports three million barrels of oil a day to the U.S. “Those exports will continue. Our trading relationship with the United States is of fundamental importance to Alberta, and we will work to build on it.”Rail delivery adds several dollars per barrel to the cost of delivering the product.

Note that the emperor waited until the Canadians installed a socialist government . New PM Justin Trudeau had made a half-hearted pledge to push for Keystone . Officially he's 'disappointed ' with the decision .But now that the emperor has nixed the pipeline ,Trudeau is free to pursue his true leftist agenda ,reducing Canadian "green-house gases" . The Keystone rejection gets Trudeau off the hook politically in that he won’t be blamed for it and won’t need to navigate opposition within his own centrist caucus, according to Duane Bratt, a political scientist at Mount Royal University in Calgary, the home of Canada’s oil patch.

“This is going to be a blip” in relations, Bratt said by telephone. While Trudeau and his foreign minister, Stephane Dion, voiced support for Keystone, “people in Calgary didn’t really believe a word they said. This gets them off the hook, and it also sets up nicely the environmental package, which was a big theme of the cabinet.” He is looking forward to working with the emperor on climate change issues .

“The Canada-U.S. relationship is much bigger than any one project and I look forward to a fresh start with President Obama to strengthen our remarkable ties in a spirit of friendship and co-operation.”

And I remember that ALL of the unions were donating to Oblabbula campaign, and pushing their members to vote Demoncrap.

Well, now, ALL union members, especially in coal mining, oil, construction, steel, electric power, should call a meeting at their union halls. When the meeting starts, lock the doors, then beat the living hell out of their union leaders, then hang them. Then, hold new elections, and vote out the national leaders. Then hang them.

I suspect many union leaders will vote for Trump, or should.

Union leaders are all Democrap Communists, and have screwed the hell out of their members. It is time for Karma to pay them a long overdue heavy visit!

A lot of those people have tucked their heads in the sand or up their own asses and have no clue what is really going on. All they know is that work hours are dwindling and brothers are out of work, they have no clue as to what caused it to be that way when the proof is standing right in front of them. Wearing blinders would be a good way to describe their actions...
