Police in South Carolina say video exists of a female student striking a police officer during their confrontation earlier this week, a new report says.

The video shows the unidentified girl, who is African-American, hitting Deputy Ben Fields amid their struggle Monday at Spring Valley High School in Columbia, S.C., according to The New York Daily News.

Richland County Sheriff Leon Lott said late Tuesday that his office has the unreleased clip, the third depicting the confrontation the day before.

“[It shows the student] hitting the school resource officer with her fists and striking him,” Leon said.

“Even though [the student] was wrong for disturbing the class, I’m looking at what our deputy did,” he said of Fields.

“[I am] shocked and disturbed,” he added of footage documenting the incident.

Two videos emerged Monday showing Fields aggressively confronting a female student when she refuses to leave a classroom.

Fields, who is white, then overturns the girl’s desk as she ignores his orders.

He is then shown dragging the student across the room before commanding her to put her hands behind her back. Fields is currently on leave following the standoff.

The Department of Justice announced Tuesday that it is opening a civil rights investigation of the incident alongside the FBI’s local field office.

“The Columbia FBI Field Office, the Civil Rights Division and the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the District of South Carolina have opened a civil rights investigation into the circumstances surrounding the arrests,” the DOJ said in a statement.

“The FBI will collect all available facts and evidence in order to determine whether a federal law was violated.”

Several 2016 Democratic presidential candidates have since condemned the conflict for hurting the relationship between students and law enforcement.

“There is no excuse for violence inside a school,” tweeted Democratic presidential front-runner Hillary Clinton.

“The #AssaultatSpringValleyHigh is unacceptable – schools should be safe places,” she added, using a trending Twitter hashtag for news about the incident.

Former Gov. Martin O’Malley (D-Md.), meanwhile, said that the event concerns him as both a father and as an education reformer.

“I would be ripped ballistic if someone did that to my daughter,” he said of the video.

“That’s pretty outrageous behavior. I mean, that’s not appropriate behavior for any adult to treat a kid.”

News just in from CNN: The officer Deputy Ben Fields has been fired due to policy violations on the handling of the girl where he was seen using excessive force on the girl and tossing her about the room.

I heard the sheriff say that he fired the deputy for not following proper procedure. He did not characterize the tossing as excessive force, but noted that policy indicated that he was supposed to maintain control of the subject, and when he tossed her, he relinquished control.

Last night, I heard him asked how he would have done it, and he had no explanation.

The sheriff fired the deputy because his actions went against their policy and procedure. Oddly enough, (and this was also reported from CNN) that the deputies in that area were never trained on how to deal with students. So my question is who called the cops in the first place and why did they need the assistance of the sheriff when the school administration could have just called the parents to come pick up their disruptive child who refused to leave the classroom? This was actually a student disciplinary matter that did not involve violence until that deputy came in the scene and started throwing her around while she was still at her desk. That's where things started to get violent. Yes, the girl resisted arrest as well as being disruptive. But when I heard that deputies were not trained to handle situations like this, a red flag went up. That school is going to be hearing from some lawyers soon. They had no business calling in the deputies at all. This was a civil matter which then upon the school administration escalated when they called in the sheriff. The school should have known that the deputies were not trained to handle situations like this. So, the administrator, the teacher and whoever else assisted in calling the sheriff will be held liable. They should have kept this to a minimum and called the parents. Let the parents handle their disruptive kid. Now what will happen, is the school will be sued and the sheriff's division will probably be getting more wind of this too. It is unfortunate that the deputy lost his job but he nor any of those assisting him with the badge were ever trained to handle situations like this. CNN reported this and even the sheriff spokesperson admitted this as well.

See here www.chicagotribune.com/ne...video-20151028-story.html

From I have read that same deputy assaulted another female student several years back. And finally, when that sheriff spokesperson mentioned that the deputy had violated policy and procedure, that is where the lawsuit begins under State and Federal color of law statutes (1984, 1985, and 1986).
