Ben Carson has edged out fellow GOP presidential candidate Donald Trump in a new national poll, taking the top spot from the real estate mogul for the first time in months. Carson is supported by 26 percent of GOP primary voters, followed by Trump at 22 percent, according to the CBS News/New York Times poll released early Tuesday. All other candidates follow in the single digits, with Sen. Marco Rubio (Fla.) at 8 percent and businesswoman Carly Fiorina and former Florida Gov. Jeb Bush at 7 percent each. The poll represents growing momentum for Carson, who surpassed Trump in several polls in the early voting state of Iowa over the past week ahead of the next GOP debate on Wednesday. "Ben Carson is now doing well," Trump acknowledged on MSNBC's "Morning Joe" after the poll came out, adding that he believed Carson would see more scrutiny as a front-runner. "I don't get it," Trump said of losing his lead in Iowa, noting that he would be campaigning in the Hawkeye State later Tuesday. "We seem to have hit a chord ... but some of these polls coming out, I don't quite get it," he added. Carson has gained 5 points since a CBS/NYT poll earlier this month, while Trump has dropped 5 points. Carson also now leads Trump by more than 20 points among evangelicals. Sen. Rand Paul (Ky.), Sen. Ted Cruz (Texas), former Arkansas Gov. Mike Huckabee and Ohio Gov. John Kasich each get 4 percent support in the new poll. The latest survey of 575 GOP primary voters, conducted Oct. 21-25 via landlines and cellphones, has a margin of error of 6 points.

I don't think this is a bad poll. The trend has been toward Carson for some time. It would also seem Carson has a solid core of support, as he was polling relatively well back in June when he was a very unknown commodity. Obama has played at being a president while enjoying the perks … golf, insanely expensive vacations at tax-payer expense. He has ignored the responsibilities of the job; no plans, no budgets, no alternatives … just finger pointing; making him a complete failure as a president

I wonder how much of this is polls shaping public opinion vs polls reflecting public opinion??? My guess is that the Democraps and Establishment think they can easily ruin Carson when the appropriate time comes... Vegetarians eat vegetables. Beware of humanitarians!

For the landline sample, a respondent was randomly selected from all adults in the household. For the cell sample, interviews were conducted with the person who answered the phone. Interviews were conducted in English and Spanish using live interviewers. The data have been weighted to reflect U.S. Census figures on demographic variables. The error due to sampling for results based on the entire sample could be plus or minus four percentage points. The error for subgroups may be higher and is available by request. The margin of error includes the effects of standard weighting procedures which enlarge sampling error slightly. An oversample of registered voters who are Republican was interviewed for a total of 512 interviews with Republican registered voters. The results were then weighted in proportion to the adult population. The margin of error for the Republican registered voters is 7 percentage points. The margin of error for the sample of 575 Republican primary voters is 6 percentage points. This poll release conforms to the Standards of Disclosure of the National Council on Public Polls.
I'm quite familiar with dubious polling methodologies. However, it is consistent with trends. Maybe they are all manufactured polls, but I would tend to doubt it.

October 27, 2015, 7:00 AM This poll was conducted by telephone October 21-25, 2015 among a random sample of 1,289 adults nationwide, including 1,136 registered voters. Data collection was conducted on behalf of CBS News and The New York Times by SSRS of Media, PA. Phone numbers were dialed from samples of both standard land-line and cell phones.
