A South Carolina officer attacks, slams African-American female student to the ground.

Racial tension between police and the African-American community has only increased over the last year. After a video circulated on social media Monday night showing an officer attacking a student, that tension only got worse.

Cop slams student in South Carolina.
youtube.com

An unnamed African-American female was allegedly disturbing class and was asked to leave, when she refused, a school resource officer was called in to help the situation. As local WIS-TV in South Carolina reported on Oct. 26, the officer only made matters worse.

In a class room in Spring Valley High School in Columbia, S.C., a typical scene of a student acting out apparently took place. When the student refused, the unnamed Caucasian officer entered the room, grabbing the students arm where he proceeded to slam the girl and her desk to the ground. The video was captured by a fellow classmate that also showed the officer putting the student's arms around her back, positioning her to be arrested.

"The student was told she was under arrest for disturbing school and given instructions which she again refused," Sheriff Leon Lott told local WIS-TV. "The video then shows the student resisting and being arrested by the SRO." The officer has since been placed on leave.

The video began circulating throughout social media, mostly on Facebook and Twitter, where outrage and debate over proper police procedure took place. While many have hopes that the tension between African-Americans and the police community will star to cool down, incidents like the one in Spring Valley High School shows there's a lot of work to do.Spring Valley High School’s ‘Incredible Hulk’ — Deputy Ben Fields — has history of alleged misconduct and racial bias (1 image)

She was already under arrest. But everybody knows that as long as you refuse to move the police just have to wait until you feel like it.

No,the female student only made matters worse. She gabbed the desk so he couldn't pull her out of it,and that's why she got slammed to the floor. She worked for it,and got what she worked for.

She was told to leave because she was being disruptive and harming the other students by preventing them from advancing their education, and from that point forward she had no right to be there.

Granted,he should have just hosed her down with pepper spray and/or lit her up with his tazer, but decided to be a nice guy and just pull her out of the desk instead. Who knows, maybe she actually learned something that day by accident? Granted,it won't help her advance in her future career of baby mama welfare queen, and eventually thug mama, but learning is never a waste of time.

Just out of curiosity would YOU have had him done?

Let's just say that YOU were the cop and had been called into the classroom to remove a disruptive student, and she grabbed on the desk she was sitting in and refused to let go or get up out of the desk. What would YOU have done?

Once someone does something that warrants an arrest, if they do not cooperate willingly, then force is justified.

Assuming arrest was warranted, I don't see any problem with the police conduct here. The article title does not reflect what's in the video either.

I have a problem with the cop being called in the first place. When did teachers start to delegate their authority out to police?

Did you see how big the teacher is? Bigger than the cop - and black.

The guy could have pushed the desk out in the hallway with the disruptive student in it - problem solved.

Because if the teacher had as much as tapped the student on the shoulder, the teacher would have been fired, brought up on charges, and publicly admonished by by the school district.

Well there's the problem right there.

Apparently the cop is also a football and strength conditioning coach.

You are saying that if he had done this as a coach instead of as a cop, it would have been wrong, but when he does it as a cop that makes it OK?

I'm going with the fairly safe assumption that police intervention was desired by the teacher/school, and that the officer was there with the consent of the teacher. If that was the case, and the police was called inappropriately, then fault does not lie with the police office but rather with the teacher, and in that event blame should not be given to the police officer as the article plainly directs it.

But assuming the student was disruptive to the point of disturbing the function of the classroom, all participants there being present by contract, and the student was refusing to leave and continuing to disrupt, she's disturbing the peace and arrest was warranted, and the degree of physical forced used reasonable to that end. That's my take on this one.

I remember several years back of a very similar incident involving a female student being man-handled by cops on a campus. It involved a black female student. I don't believe this story is new at all.

But as for the crux of it all, I think that teacher needs some serious explaining to do as to why they called in the cops in the first place. The cops just went along with what the teacher told them to do and, of course, the cops obliged because they are not there to protect the students at all but the teachers. I think there is more to this story than what the video relays. Start with the teacher and ask them why they called the cops in the first place.

I listened to the video. It gave me a new perception. The high school girl resisted leaving and put up a fight after the cop tried to get her to leave. I thought she was younger but now it's a HS girl. Again, the HS girl put up a physical fight and the cop got physical. Try to find a copy of the video with sound.

Truth is I can not remember the last article Deckard posted that a sane honest person would call all out police corruption or abuse[Im sure there is something somewhere]. This is just incredibly disgusting to read about this same officer in a very similar assault incident involving a pregnant young woman years ago. This guy needs to have his badge removed and gun taken away. He is unfit to serve as a police officer!

And it is interesting that the media never honed in on the teacher who called the cops. Inquiring minds want to know why the teacher called the cop when they could have just easily called in the principal.

I have to wonder why this thug was a cop in a school, given his past.

On October 24, 2005, Carlos Martin was returning home from work at the Moncrief Army Community Hospital at Fort Jackson when he saw Deputy Fields driving his patrol car in the parking lot. Responding to a noise complaint, Fields confronted Martin for playing the music in his car too loud and asked if he was the reason for the complaint. As Martin explained that he had just got home from work and had not been there long enough to cause the complaint, Fields apparently snapped when Martin referred to him as “dude.”

var crto_zoneid = top.window.innerWidth>=768?206278:206279;

After slamming Martin to the ground, Fields began kicking him and emptying an entire canister of pepper spray into the soldier’s face. While witnessing the assault, Martin’s then-wife, Tashiana Rogers, ran into the parking lot and began taking photos of the crazed deputy attacking a restrained soldier wearing fatigues. Ordering his partner to “get her black ass,” Fields had the couple arrested and seized her cellphone before deleting the pictures.

Is This What Happens ‘When Steroids, Racism and a Badge Mix’?

By now you’ve probably heard the theory that Deputy Ben Fields was on steroids – “roid raging” – when he attacked a teenage girl in her math class. Far from a polemic attack, Fields is well known for his heavy lifting at his local South Carolina gym. While no one is going to be able to confirm his steroid use, we did speak with some people who have given us insight into the deputy’s probable abuse of regulate hormones.

It was over a year ago that we were contacted by a member of law enforcement within the Beavercreek Police Department in Ohio. Beavercreek was where John Crawford had been gunned down, just over a year ago. Amidst protests and marches – demanding “Justice for John Crawford” – a member of our journalism team put us in touch with a local contact who works within the department. You can read all about that here.

That source also had something to say about steroid abuse in local Ohio departments. “Everyone’s on it,” we were told. “Everyone you see who seems a little too aggressive, and is in good shape – they’re using.”

We inquired about the source of the gear, “is this stolen out of the evidence locker, or something?”

“It can be in some departments,” they informed us. “But here, if someone is using, they probably just buy from the same connections that everyone else does. But if we’re talking about a detective or someone who can get away with it, it could be” from the evidence locker.

We checked back in today with this source and asked about Deputy Fields. “Do you think he was using?”

“There’s no question,” our source commented. “He exhibits all the signs of someone who not only juices, but probably uses way more than he needs to.”

“So you would call him a steroid abuser?” we asked.

“In my personal opinion, he displays all of the signs of steroid abuse,” was the answer we received.
