Egypt says Russia’s anti-terror airstrikes in Syria will restrict the spread of terrorism and deal a major blow to the Daesh group in the violence-torn Arab country.

“Russia’s entrance, given its potential and capabilities, is something we see is going to have an effect on limiting terrorism in Syria and eradicating it,” said Egyptian Foreign Minister Sameh Shoukry in a televised interview broadcast on Saturday.

Shoukry’s remarks are the latest sign of a thaw in relations between Russia and Egypt. During Egyptian President Abdel Fattah el-Sisi’s official visit to Russia in August, Cairo and Moscow called for forming a coalition to counter terrorism in the Middle East.

Moscow began its military campaign against terrorists in Syria on September 30 upon a request from the Damascus government, shortly after the upper house of the Russian parliament gave President Vladimir Putin the mandate to use military force in Syria.

On Friday, Putin said one of the key objectives of Moscow’s air campaign in Syria is to preserve the Arab country’s territorial integrity.

Syrian Foreign Minister Walid al-Muallem has also hailed the Russian airstrikes as an “effective” participation in the Arab nation’s fight against the Takfiri extremist groups, which have been committing heinous crimes in the country with the backing of the Western states and their regional allies since 2011.

Daesh controls swathes of land in Syria and neighboring Iraq. The group has also carried out terror attacks in other countries of the world, including Egypt, through its affiliates.

The shit is hitting the fan with all the sudden interest in Syria. I hope to have enough popcorn to watch all these alliances but it is absolute PROOF, the USA fuckedupped to the maximoso.

This is surprising. Egypt's foreign aid has been from the Saudis, who committed to a $15 billion aid package for Egypt.

And we know the Saudis funded ISIS and al-Nusra and desperately want Assad gone.

This seems to be Egypt being Egypt.

As a country of 80 million, Egypt is the big dog of the Arab world.

I had expected to see Egypt stay very quiet about Syria. But they are close with Jordan which sees ISIS as a real threat. And Jordan, another Saudi dependent, has been waging war on ISIS.

Russia also backs Iran and has placed big bets on Iran becoming the top dog in the ME. How do each of those countries feel about Iran getting nukes? Like the son syas, if there's somethin' strange in your neighborhood, who ya gonna call? We will just have to see how Egypt actually plays the hand.

The Russians can look forward to the Saudis and the Egyptians and possibly the Turks wanting to acquire substantial nuclear infrastructure. I'd look for substantial Russian sales of equipment around the Mideast. The Chinese are capable as well but don't seem to export their equipment.

If the Russians and/or the Chineses supply nukes to those countries while the U.S. refused to do so the U.S. influence in the region would be just about done.
