A federal judge in New York has dropped Saudi Arabia from a list of defendants in a lawsuit brought by the families of victims of the 9/11 attacks which attempted to implicate the middle eastern kingdom in the attacks.

U.S. District Judge George Daniels said that not enough evidence was provided to link elites in Saudi to the terrorist event.

“The allegations in the complaint alone do not provide this court with a basis to assert jurisdiction over [the] defendants,” Daniels’ filing notes.

“The broad allegations turn in large part on speculative opinions.” the judge also stated.

Daniels concluded that there is no conclusive proof that Saudi leaders financed the attacks by funneling money to Al Qaeda operatives.

The judge ruled, therefore, that the country still has sovereign immunity in the case.

Daniels also rejected testimony from the so called ’20th hijacker,’ Zacarias Moussaoui, who has claimed under oath that a Saudi prince financed his flight school studies, as well as that of the other 19 hijackers.

The case has been years in the making. The smoking gun evidence linking Saudi Arabia isn’t present because it is still being withheld from public release by the US government.

There are 28 secret pages from a congressional report into the attacks, which are thought to implicate the Saudi royal family. The pages were extracted from the report in 2002 and made secret by the Bush government on “national security” grounds.

Senator Rand Paul has been supporting an ongoing effort to release the government documents, having introduced legislation earlier this year called the “Transparency for the Families of 9/11 Act,” that would force the Obama administration to disclose the pages.

“We owe it to these families, and we cannot let this lack of transparency erode trust and make us feel less secure.” Paul has stated.

Other lawmakers, including Rep. Walter Jones and Sen. Ron Wyden signed on to Paul’s bill as cosponsors. The two have been campaigning for a number of years to have the 9/11 information uncovered.

Former Sen. Bob Graham (D-Fla.), who oversaw the Congressional inquiry, and is adamant that there is a Saudi related cover up, said “The 28 pages are very important and will, I think, inform the American people and, in so doing, will cause the American government to reconsider the nature of our relationship with Saudi Arabia,”

“But beyond that, these are emblematic of a pattern of withholding information unnecessarily and to the detriment of the American people.” Graham added.

The section of the inquiry, titled “Finding, Discussion and Narrative Regarding Certain National Security Matters,” is thought to have been held back by both the Bush and Obama administrations “for fear of alienating an influential military and economic partner rather than for any national security consideration,”the New York Times reported earlier this year.

CNN also reported in February that the 28 pages “focus on the role of foreign governments in the plot.”

Barack Obama previously promised families of 9/11 victims that he would declassify the pages. “And he hasn’t kept his word,” Rep. Jones told The Daily Beast.

“I don’t know if it might be embarrassing to the Bush administration, how close they were to the Saudi family,” Jones said. “I just don’t know. I can’t put my fingers on it.”

The Associated Press reports that a lawyer for the 9/11 families has vowed to appeal the decision to remove Saudi Arabia as a defendant in the lawsuit.

“Evidence central to these claims continues to be treated as classified,” Sean Carter said. “The government’s decision to continue to classify that material certainly factored into this outcome.”

Reports of Saudi involvement never made sense to me . OBL declared war on the House of Saud after they invited US troops onto 'holy lands' during the first Gulf War. AQ and all it's manifestations have been at war with the Princes since.

US government invited the terrorists into the USA; the USG paid for their flight training and even provided assistance to their planning by not following up on their illegal status; all 19 terrorists were in the USA ILLEGALLY before 9/11.

GWBush, of course, begged for illegal aliens to swarm our soverign borders.

Well, I am fairly certain that the 28 page redacted text was all about the Saudis' involvement.

except for the fact that the Saudi's themselves have asked for the redacted pages to be released .

Anyone who thinks that President Bush is doing us a favor can forget it. Whatever the intention, this is an invitation to the US and other media to speculate. It would be far better if the section were published. This way, it will be open season on Saudi Arabia. Urged on by the anti-Saudi lobby in Washington, the media and every attention-seeking politician in town will invent facts to blacken the Kingdom’s name, attributing them to “reliable” sources. Saudis and Saudi Arabia will be found guilty through innuendo, invention and outright lies.

http://www.arabnews.com/node/234848

I understand where the speculation comes from . Saudi Arabia is the product of a pact between the Sauds and Mohammad ibn Abd al-Wahhab. So their link to woldwide jihadistan is documented . But OBL's AQ organization was not connected ;at least since the Gulf War . When we sent troops to the land of Mecca and Medina,AQ reinvented itself as an organization that would not only kill infidels, but also apostate Muslims.

In redacting the 28 pages, the report says (beginning on page 415) that the committee reviewed “FBI and CIA documents suggesting specific potential sources of foreign support” for al Qaeda. But it also says the committee “did not attempt to investigate and assess the accuracy and significance of this information independently” because it was beyond its scope.

“It should be clear that this Joint Inquiry has made no final determinations as to the reliability or sufficiency of the information regarding these issues that was found contained in FBI and CIA documents,” the report says. It goes on to say an “investigation of these allegations could reveal legitimate, and innocent, explanations for these associations.” Or, the report says, quoting from a CIA memo, a further investigation could turn up “incontroverible evidence that there is support for these terrorists … [the rest of the sentence was redacted].”

Philip D. Zelikow, executive director of the 9/11 Commission, told the New York Times, according to a Feb. 4 story, that a team of commission investigators, including Senate and House investigators who worked on the joint congressional report, further investigated the material in “the famous 28 pages” and concluded there was no evidence that the Saudi government and its top officials helped finance al Qaeda.

Then you haven't been paying attention. It is the Sauds that finance and build all the Wahhabi Mosques all over the world, and it is out of these mosques that radical Islam is spread. That is the most strict sect of Islam, and the sect of the Saud family.

OBL declared war on the House of Saud after they invited US troops onto 'holy lands' during the first Gulf War.

He did that to give them cover, and to protect his family construction business.

AQ and all it's manifestations have been at war with the Princes since.

Not really. The Crips and the Bloods both fight each other for power and drug turf, yet they both hate and fight against white people any time they find any that are unarmed and outnumbered. There are a lot of turf wars going on between the various sects of Islam, but in the end the west is their prime enemy.

15 of the 17 hijackers on 9-11 were from Saudi Arabia.

ROFLMAO!

You can't possibly believe that unless you are so mentally feeble you believe the Clintons when they claim they have never done anything illegal or wrong, and it is all part of a "vast right-wing conspiracy".

But your theory that OBL's fatwahs and terrorist attacks against the Saudis was part of a scheme to give them cover is a legitimate theory ?

When the Saudi's expelled him in 1991 ,was that part of the cover too ? When the Saudi's revoked his citizenship and froze his assets ,was that part of the cover ? When he later he issued fatwas denouncing both the royal family ,was that giving them cover too ? When AQ attacked Saudi Arabia in 2003 by detonating bombs at three compounds in Riyadh ,killing 39 and wounding 160 ,was that part of the cover too ?

WHAT terrorist attacks?

And the scheme was to give his family cover so they could continue to make millions from government contracts.
