Before the ecstatic crowds that greeted the arrival of Pope Francis this afternoon, who knew that there were so many pious Christians in Washington, DC? “WASHINGTON — A city accustomed to power, fame and traffic-stopping motorcades offered an ecstatic reception on Wednesday for Pope Francis, who waved to vast crowds from a special open-sided Jeep and kissed babies carried to him by security personnel. Before the pope’s arrival at the White House on Wednesday morning, onlookers had been gathering for hours, with some camping out all night in hopes of a glimpse of white, the chosen vestments of popes. One spectator, Anna Wolf, said she did not even believe in God, but by 5:39 a.m., she had been waiting eight hours to see Francis. “I think he’s just, like, bringing the truth back,” she said. “I respect him.” …” Who knew that Jesus Christ came to fight “global climate change”? Like the tail of a comet, today’s Christianity is yesterday’s liberalism in religious garb.

Following are the words of no less an authority than the holy founder of the Order of Friars Minor St. Francis of Assisi, and they were issued when he realized he was dying. There is nothing in the record of Jesus' words or actions to indicate that He would ever send a wolf among His flock. There is no reason to regard this as anything more than the babbling of a (likely) incoherent dying man. It brings to mind the false Prophecy Of The Popes. There is a history of this kind of false prophecy among Catholicism is far more widespread than most people realize. Much as Rome has tried to keep it tamped down, they have their own false prophets, just like Hagee and Robertson and many evangelical/Protestant prophets of doom (Hagee, Robertson, Texe Marrs, etc.). History shows no shortages of crackpots and false prophets.

Well, that is a different issue from the Assisi prophecy. Scripture repeatedly depicts Jesus as the Good Shepherd, guarding His flock from any wolf. Given the many question marks around Assisi, I think he was actually a very marginal figure in the history of Christianity, even though he was very big in Catholic circles. It is interesting that the communists always were indifferent or hostile to Christianity, to Jesus and the disciples. But they loved the rhetoric of Assisi and his ideas about holy poverty and a religious class war. The various communist leaders found Assisi very compatible with basic Marxist dogma. And this pope, taking up his name and the populist cant of Peron, is a big step back from what JP2 did as pope. This pope gives aid and comfort to the Castro and their brutal regime. JP2 would never have done that. This would be the appropriate theme music for this pope in particular. Just as JP2's life and worldview was driven by his hostility to totalitarian communism, so Francis's weltanschaung was formed by the Peron era of Argentine politics. Another despicable Latin regime. When Francis speaks on social and economic issues, you can hear the echoes of Peron and Hugo Chavez.
