Just imagine, for a moment, being told you need to lose weight by New Jersey Governor Chris Christie. Well, that is the situation that Air Force Brig. Gen. Michael L. Cunniff finds himself in this week after he reportedly ignored orders from the Pentagon to attend physical-fitness tests and get his weight under control. Christie has given Cunniff, who leads the New Jersey National Guard, 90 days to meet the U.S. military’s fitness requirements. “The Governor has expressed directly to the General that his failure to meet that standard or to provide notification of his formal reprimand is both unacceptable and disappointing,” Christie spokesperson Kevin Roberts said in a statement to ABC News. “The Governor has directed General Cunniff to meet his obligations in the next 90 days.” Christie’s office has not said what the consequences will be if this does happen in time. In a statement of his own, Cunniff vowed to take action to meet this goal: “Many people struggle with weight control — I am not immune from this. Just as I afford every opportunity to each Soldier and Airmen to meet these standards, so will I. I take this matter seriously and am taking the necessary steps to remedy this issue by being involved in a rigorous physical fitness training program and have sought the assistance of a nutritionist.” Poster Comment: They say that Christie's lost a lot of weight, but he's such a fat slob that you can hardly tell.

That would be ideal but the General is being measured against a Service standard and not compared to his state chief executive. Now Christie could challenge the General to a "biggest loser" type competition. That would motivation and leadership. So even though both men struggle with their weight or self control, Christie is under no 'weight standard' as the General is. There used to be a time General Officers were exempt from weight and PT standards. Now they have to tow the line like everyone else but within their age bracket. So this is 'news' because Christie is overweight. I wonder if Zero could bang out the minimum number of proper Military push ups or pull ups? With those boney girl arms, I don't think so. Then again Lee Haney, one of the strongest and in best shape men in the world (in his prime) had difficulties due to his muscule density with pull ups. There's a lot to pull up. Yeah, so what. My point is that Christie is the one that is ordering the General, and Christie is a fat slob. I fully recognize & understand your technical point.

I don't deny your obvious point...If one writes such a letter to another they should meet the same standards. I would gather quite a number of Govenors could not pass the run, push up, sit up or pull up event of the physical fitness test. Those Generals get letters too if they fail in those events. There are greater examples of hypocrisy in government leadership than CC writing this letter. if you look at before and after pix of Christie ,you see that he has lost a considerable amt of weight from his peak . He must be close to 100 lb thinner .
