Title: Question about ads and FireFox

I have a question about Firefox or Flashplayer. It seems that the ads overload my computer. Basically slow it down to a crawl. I have to load up Task Manager and delete "flash" to get back to normal. From what I have detected is that it tries to run all ads at once. Then I go in and end "FlashPlayerPlugin_18_0_0_232" to get control back.

Just guessing but it seems as if Firefox is treating the whole site as one page being seen by the user and starts them all up.

Im a dummy when it comes to web stuff or just dangerous enough to blow up my computer! LOL

Any advise would be nice. Thanks.

You could just use an ad blocker like Adblock Plus or uBlock Origin. uBlock is much newer and not as popular as the classic Adblock Plus. uBlock is much more efficient at not hogging up RAM; Adblock is a real memory hog (for technical reasons I won't go into). So if your machine doesn't have a lot of RAM (less than 4GB), uBlock could be the better choice. I used Adblock for years and liked it, running on a 16GB Mac. But even with all that RAM, I didn't like the way Adblock was running and getting bogged down so I switched to uBlock about 5 months back. I prefer uBlock. BTW, both of them use the same basic set of adblocking rules so there isn't a big difference between what ads they block.

You can install either one (but not both) from the links above and you won't even have to restart your Firefox.

Once installed, you can re-enable ads temporarily or permanently on a web page or an entire website. You can also create your own custom rules but not many people do that. I have done custom rules before if, for instance, I want to block some obnoxious graphic that people keep posting over and over, like in a forum signature or tagline.

I'll cut to the chase: install uBlock Origin.     : )

I recall Bob asked about this same issue and he installed one of them recently. Maybe he has some comparable experience to offer.
