This is the opening to the late Tory MP Enoch Powell’s 1968 speech endorsing immigration restriction: The supreme function of statesmanship is to provide against preventable evils. In seeking to do so, it encounters obstacles which are deeply rooted in human nature. One is that by the very order of things such evils are not demonstrable until they have occurred: at each stage in their onset there is room for doubt and for dispute whether they be real or imaginary. By the same token, they attract little attention in comparison with current troubles, which are both indisputable and pressing: whence the besetting temptation of all politics to concern itself with the immediate present at the expense of the future. Above all, people are disposed to mistake predicting troubles for causing troubles and even for desiring troubles: “If only,” they love to think, “if only people wouldn’t talk about it, it probably wouldn’t happen.” Perhaps this habit goes back to the primitive belief that the word and the thing, the name and the object, are identical. At all events, the discussion of future grave but, with effort now, avoidable evils is the most unpopular and at the same time the most necessary occupation for the politician. Those who knowingly shirk it deserve, and not infrequently receive, the curses of those who come after. Poster Comment: Mama Merkel, she never got around to having kids of her own. Mama Merkel is going to destroy Europe with her stupidity. That, combined with immigration here, is going to result in the conquest and destruction of Western civilization.
The title Mama Merkel which she has eagerly embraced remind me of Teddy Roosevelt's spech from 1910, Citizenship in a Republic (link to pdf file); Finally, even more important than ability to work, even more important than ability to fight at need, is it to remember that chief of blessings for any nations is that it shall leave its seed to inherit the land. It was the crown of blessings in Biblical times and it is the crown of blessings now. The greatest of all curses in is the curse of sterility, and the severest of all condemnations should be that visited upon willful sterility. The first essential in any civilization is that the man and women shall be father and mother of healthy children, so that the race shall increase and not decrease. If that is not so, if through no fault of the society there is failure to increase, it is a great misfortune. If the failure is due to the deliberate and wilful fault, then it is not merely a misfortune, it is one of those crimes of ease and self-indulgence, of shrinking from pain and effort and risk, which in the long run Nature punishes more heavily than any other. If we of the great republics, if we, the free people who claim to have emancipated ourselves form the thraldom of wrong and error, bring down on our heads the curse that comes upon the willfully barren, then it will be an idle waste of breath to prattle of our achievements, to boast of all that we have done. No refinement of life, no delicacy of taste, no material progress, no sordid heaping up riches, no sensuous development of art and literature, can in any way compensate for the loss of the great fundamental virtues; and of these great fundamental virtues the greatest is the race’s power to perpetuate the race...
Immigration cannot destroy Western civilization unless the immigration is coming into a vacuum, in which the natives are themselves thinning out and not reproducing. Which is the case. Contraception came first, and as the number of babies decreased, rather than hike wages, borders were opened to immigrants. But the immigrants who came were of a traditionalist religion, so THEY kept on having babies at their native rates, while the secularized local natives did not. The further decline of the natives, from demographic implosion, causes the demand for more and more immigrants, who come and settle and keep having babies. The population change accelerates. And then comes a crisis that sends huge waves of immigrants into the nations that already are in a slow demographic death spiral. The massive resettlement of foreigners accelerates the rate of population change. It was all avoidable, by increasing the birth rate through the cessation of use of contraceptives. But THAT would require a change of heart by the native populations. I see no indication whatever that any white Western civilization is questioning the wisdom of contraception or excessive sexual liberty. And THAT, above all, means that the West is doomed. Why? Because 'the wages of sin is death'. - Jesus
