The manager says shortly after 2:00 p.m. a patron dropped a bullet, the powder ignited and the shrapnel from the bullet went into his leg. They called police and ambulance and the man was taken to the hospital. No word on his condition. More to come. A bullet, aside from being fired from a gun will only detonate by a striking of the primer (which is impossible by dropping it) or HEAT... like tossing a cartridge in a fire pit. Remember Newton's Second Law of Motion: The external forces F on an object is equal to the mass m of that object multiplied by the acceleration vector a of the object: F = ma. The force, F, is the exploding gunpowder. That force acts equally on both the bullet and the shell casing. If the shell casing is not confined by a gun, it will accelerate at a much faster rate than the bullet.
