GOP presidential candidate Gov. Scott Walker is reportedly canceling an appearance at the California GOP Convention next weekend. Walker is scheduled to appear at the CNN GOP presidential primary debate in Simi Valley, California on Wednesday. Trail Guide’s Seema Mehta reported that Walker backed out of his speaking engagement scheduled for September 19. Walker’s speech was supposed to be in front of hundreds of guests in Anaheim, California. Fellow GOP presidential candidate former Arkansas Gov. Mike Huckabee is scheduled to attend the party event on Friday. Walker’s campaign did not confirm or deny this report.

Scott Walker has canceled upcoming appearances in California and Michigan to focus instead on the critical early voting Iowa and South Carolina as he campaigns for the Republican presidential nomination. “Nothing changed for us aside from some scheduling,” Walker spokeswoman Kirsten Kukowski said, dismissing any suggestion the campaign was concerned. Walker has struggled recently, particularly in Iowa, where he was considered a front-runner for much of the year. On Saturday, Walker and two other Republican hopefuls — Sens. Rand Paul of Kentucky and Marco Rubio of Florida — met with tailgating fans outside of Jack Trice Stadium in Ames, where Iowa State hosted rival Iowa for a football game that is one of the state’s largest single-day gatherings. Walker waded through the throngs of crimson-wearing Iowa State Cyclone and black-and-gold-clad Iowa Hawkeye fans, unrecognized by many. Ben Larsen, who drove three hours from Blair, Nebraska, to see candidates, shook Walker’s hand and smiled, though he later said, “I’m more a Rubio guy.” Hours earlier, Rubio told reporters that former Texas Gov. Rick Perry, who suspended his campaign Friday evening, “is a good man” and “I’m sure he’s not done serving our country.” A day earlier, Walker made a more public pitch for Perry’s supporters while campaigning in eastern Iowa. Republican front-runner Donald Trump had been scheduled to mingle with tailgating fans and talk at the Iowa Republican Party tent, but instead went inside the stadium to meet with Iowa State President Steven Leath. He later posed for photos with fans and cheerleaders as he walked around the field’s perimeter. Walker spoke to a huge crowd, but many in the crowd said they were there to hear Trump. Walker used the opportunity to try to tap into the anti-Washington, D.C., sentiment that is helping to make people flock to the front-running Trump. “If you’re looking for someone to wreak havoc on Washington, it takes more than loud words. It takes actions,” Walker said, reminding the crowd of his work to strip public employees in Wisconsin of most of their collective bargaining rights and then survive a recall election. With Perry out of the race for president, Trump focused his barbs on another opponent in the crowded field of primary candidates, retired neurosurgeon Ben Carson. In polls in national and early-voting states, Carson is second only to Trump. He recently cast doubt on the real estate mogul’s religious faith, questioning his “fear of the Lord.” “You don’t hit a person on faith,” Trump told hundreds of people at a rally in Boone. Trump, who has made a practice in public appearances and interviews of listing those he says have wronged him, told the crowd that he doesn’t think Carson could negotiate effectively with world leaders. “I don’t think Ben has the energy,” Trump said. Good memory!! Yes he did, it was a train that would have been built by a foreign company, Talgo... We'll see how long his money holds out. Yea you might be right, I'm not to sure how much money he has. To me he seems to be too soft spoken and just isn't attracting anyone's attention to what he has to say... When I hear him talk 1 on 1 like on talk radio he sounds better, maybe he just needs more practice speaking to larger audiences?? All three looked around and said, "This is amazing! Look at the turnout! We must really be popular!" "... but many in the crowd said they were there to hear Trump." Oops.
