Title: Riot control cops could get electrically-charged riot shields

Pretty soon, cops won't just be packing stun guns. They'll be carrying electrically-charged riot shields, zapping their unruly without unholstering their weapons. That is, if the folks at Taser International have their way.

The company just introduced the "Taser Shield Conversion Kit featuring the Taser Repel Laminate Film Technology."

The kit "features a peel and stick perforated [f]ilm, power supply and necessary conversion equipment. This laminate becomes electrified providing a powerful deterrent to protect officers and keep suspects or rioters at bay." What could possibly go wrong?

Taser is demoing all kinds of gear this week -- from shock-inducing shotgun rounds to "area denial" zappers that can fry groups of people at once. It's all part of the Office of Law Enforcement Technology Commercialization's Mock Prison Riot, a showcase for new police and correctional tech, held annually at on the grounds of the former West Virginia Penitentiary in Moundsville. (David Axe covered the so-called "Rage in the Cage" for DANGER ROOM last year.)

The peel-and-stick zapping film will be available towards the end of the year, the company says. Our buddy Lew Page, over at El Reg, wonders, "Whatever's next? Electrified body-armour suits? Gauntlets? Truly, the day of the electric cop would seem to be upon us."

And we can think of lots of other things one might do with this sort of Taser-on-a-roll technology. Troublesome dogs or drunks relieving themselves against your wall? People keep touching your car? Borrowing your stuff? Cover it in peel-and-stick zappercoat (with a car-key-style remote disarm as required), plug it in and watch the fun (and lawsuits) begin.

Never heard of recreate 68.

It's been covered in 'daily briefings' where I work for weeks now:

We are committed to resisting and overturning a system of violence inflicted daily on people of this country and the world, and against the ...

Aren't we all 'the man' to a certain degree?

The 'man' being that element in society that enforces a needed measure of civility in social and business contracts?

In your previous answer you stated 'no' ('nope' to be specific); is this new answer a reversal, clarification or affirmation?

Edit: Spelling

I'm not for anarchy. Notice that I said if I was zapped "without cause".

As in if I was at a concert downtown and they did this to me. The reason I use that example is because years ago I was at a concert downtown dayton. I was waiting in line for the restroom. Some big dude got in front of me and insisted he was going next. I told him to wait his turn. He popped me one in the mouth. Me not wanting to get arrested (my girlfriend, now wife was in the restroom in front of me (portapotties)). I went to the cop told him that the guy hit me in the mouth withoug provocation and there were witnesses there. The pig was talking and flirting with some girls. He said he was busy. I walked off to try and find another officer. I couldn't. I walked back up to him and said they were going to get away and the guy loosened my tooth. The cop then arrested me and said I was drunk, I wasn't. Anyway I did eventually win in court by representing myself. I don't care much for pigs. They do serve a purpose but I think most of them are corrupt.

Did you read the link to my story of blackeye. It shows that I do stick up for the weak. But I wouldn't stand up for the weakling I stood up for before. I would let her boyfriend kick her ass next time.

No, an individual determining cause and penalty and administering the penalty is anarchy.

No, an individual determining cause and penalty and administering the penalty is anarchy.

If the government uses unlawful force against its citizens. And they do. Such as tazers that kill people. Then they develop more weapons like that and use them on its citizens. Then still don't do shit about it. That is tyranny. Sometimes individuals have to stand up to tyranny.

Anyway I doubt I will be stunned with one of these shields. So I wont have to take any actions.

Bottom line is that I am sick of the way this country is slipping into a police state. There doesn't seem to be anything that can stop it. I'm very frustrated.

So, you are 'the man' too.

If you want to look at it that way.

I want a civilized society. I want people to respect each other. I want people and GOVERNMENT to do the right thing.

Way to often these days our government is acting as tyrant instead of servant of the people.

I guess you might say I am an idealist to a certain extent. I want good to prevail.

Such as tazers that kill people.

Overblown.

Extreme Hyperbole used to win points at the expense of the truth.

An arguement that totally overlooks that a taser is an alternative to clearly known deadly force, i.e., a firearm (lead or copper-jacketed projectiles that quite literally 'kill' by tearing apart human tissue).

A good example of why argumentationm like this when used to make 'case law' is a loser for all sides ...

Tazers have killed hundreds of people. They should not be used. They are not non-lethal.

Also case law is bullshit. The constitution is the law. If a judge makes a mistake they then call it case law. It isn't the law its lawyer bullshit.

Tazers have killed hundreds of people.

Riiiiiiiiiiiight.

And bullets kill fewer.

I don't see the logic.

(maybe that's becasue there isn't any?)

Edit: I guess you've never first-hand seen how a tazer can get an otherwise totally combative person to settle down and become civil; like as seen on COPS a month or so back (subject was going to/was bound and determined to fight the poh-leece, until he was tazered and his attitude changed completely for the better) ... and no need for pepper spray (which I think is *WORSE* - you can't turn pepper OFF once sprayed!! And it gets in the EYES!!)
