Legendary Smashing Pumpkins frontman Billy Corgan has joined a growing list of celebrities who are praising Donald Trump for shaking up the establishment with his unorthodox presidential campaign.
"Hes forcing a lot of things out into the open, so they cant control this, whatever that control is," Corgan continued. "Its like the music business: Everybody gets controlled, and somebody comes along that f---s it all up.
The singer-songwriter, who is currently on tour with the latest iteration of his iconic alternative rock group, said that while he may not agree with the Republican real-estate mogul politically, he appreciates his role in the 2016 election cycle.
I think its good that hes f---ing it up, because whether or not hes the guy, obviously the political class doesnt want him there," Corgan said. "Itll open it up to a bigger dialog."
Actor Owen Wilson made similar comments last month when he praised Trump for not following the script.
More recently, actor Robert Redford said he was glad Trump was running because his candidacy shakes things up, and I think thats very needed."
I think whats cool, and Im not saying I agree politically, but I think whats cool is Trumps running chaos theory. Hes forcing a lot of things out into the open, so they cant control this, whatever that control is. Its like the music business, everybody gets controlled, and somebody comes along that fucks it all up. So I think its good that hes fucking it up, because whether or not hes the guy, obviously the political class doesnt want him there, itll open it up to a bigger dialog. Just like rock and roll, it gets boring and it needs to be I mean look, whether anybody agrees or not, the rating on that debate was 24 million. It was 8 times higher than the first Republican debate of the last cycle. It was highest non-sports related cable rating of all time. That means people are engaged.
Corgan added, I would argue at this point is there any difference between politics and entertainment? Is there any difference at this point between music and entertainment? I dont think theres any difference any more.
