She also takes offense to what she said is a three week focus on Islam in her daughter’s history course, especially since the class skipped past a chapter on Christianity – the predominant religion in Tennessee. “I have a big problem with that,” Porterfield said. “From a historical point of view, that’s a lot of history these kids are missing. To: All (#0) The public schools have, since Kennedy and Bush the first, got together and came up with no child left behind, nothing more than indoctrination centers/ kiddie kennels. No parent that professes to be a Born Again Christian has any right to put his or her child in an environment that teaches that God is a liar, that male on male anal sodomy is good, that Christianity is bigoted and that islam is the religion of peace. You might make a case that this represents an establishment of religion. Islam is being treated as a serious religion, worthy of 3 weeks of study. Christianity (and Buddhism and Hinduism and others) are skipped entirely or given short shrift. Why should just one religion receive so much attention? If you're going to study any religions in school, you should study all of them as a survey of comparative religion. There have been curricula for decades on how to conduct relatively fair comparative religion classes so it isn't as if this is not an established academic discipline. There are plenty of materials to teach the fundamentals of various religions. Yet, they choose to take just one, Islam, seriously enough to grant it 3 weeks of study. Nope, once the Homer School number hits around 20%, the votes will be there to literally defund the public indoctrination system. Add into that 20% the singles with no children that own or are buying homes, add in the couples who have chosen not to have kids, their tax bill is upwards of 60% for the schools.
