“Our Secession plan calls for establishing a more republican form of government than total democracy NYS currently has which allows Downstate state to rule upstate, while upstate can occasionally block things downstate wishes to enact,” Divide New York State Caucus head John Bergeron told the Syracuse Post-Standard. Organizers said in a separate statement that they are also considering pushing for the upstate region to become part of Pennsylvania. This would require approval from both New York state and Pennsylvania, as well as Congress. Splitting New York into two “regions” would require a state constitutional convention, and a vote on that issue will not be held until 2017. The group posted a graphic showing the proposed new boundaries on its Facebook page, which can be seen below: According to Gawker, another group involved in the campaign, Shooters Committee On Political Education New York (SCOPE NY), has come out against gun safety legislation signed by Gov. Andrew Cuomo in response to the mass shooting attack in Newtown, Connecticut. Secession advocates have also criticized Cuomo’s administration for opposing fracking. A petition supporting the split had garnered just over 3,200 signatures by Friday night. “Why secession? Secession is about reclaiming the economic opportunities Upstate has lost and restoring the liberties Upstate residents once enjoyed,” the groups said in a statement. “Downstate has dominated Upstate for decades and Upstate has no future in a state controlled by New York City’s needs and desires.” However, Gawker reported that downstate New York gave a collective $12 billion in tax money to the upstate region in 2009 and 2010 alone. What price do you put on your principles and integrity? $4 million after taxes is my price. Yours? I would have said lower but I will up my standards to $4 miilion + $1.
My price is an after-tax number. $4 million is a ballpark figure only. I would need to calculate the exact number when the offer came forward. I need enough that, invested at 3% after taxes, I will be able to live comfortably perpetually without stress. So, the number has to include enough excess so that the return on reinvestment will outstrip inflation. $4 million net of taxes is about $8 million gross. But the last time I calculated that number was years ago, and would need to be revised. Selling my principles and integrity for $10 million seems reasonable. If body parts (a kidney, for example) are also required, the price goes up. If BOTH kidneys are required, or heart and lungs - in other words, if you're actually going to KILL me after paying me - well, then my price is much higher: $200 billion, which makes for $100 billion after taxes. To kill me requires making me the wealthiest man in the world first, and I require some time to set things up for the proper use of that money. God gets to kill me for free whenever he likes, but if some man is going to do it by transaction, he's going to have to have a consortium behind him to afford the price. And once I have the money, I will be the richest man in the world so I'll use the money power to hire people to not only break the contract, but to reverse the charge: in other words, pay me, and you will "own" the right to kill me...and I'll use the money to have you taken out first. Why? Simple: the first $4 million bought my integrity, so obviously if you pay for my kidneys, you've bought my integrity with the bargain. And the thing about a man with no integrity is that I don't honor contracts - including the one you paid for. So, buy my integrity for $4 million, I'll keep the $4 million, but I'll knife you in the back anyways whenever I damn please. Because I have no integrity, obviously. Selling integrity is like selling virginity. If you've got none, then if some fool wants to pay for it, he gets what he deserves when he pays and gets nothing. My integrity can't really be bought (and neither can anybody else's, really) - because if you've got the sort of integrity that CAN be bought, it can be re-bought by a higher bidder, OR you could just decide to fuck over whoever THOUGHT he bought your integrity, take his money, and leave him with bupkis. Let him plead to the judge: "But your honor, I BRIBED him, so he had to do what I say! He didn't, so he STOLE my money!" All contracts with all men are that way: men keep them, or break them, depending on their interests. Lots of good people found themselves during the crisis facing the decision of feeding and housing their kids or paying their financial debts, and decided that the financiers were going to get screwed in favor of the kids. The financiers would say that that's a lack of integrity. But somebody else might say that the duty to children exceeds the duty to honor contracts and repay money. And Jesus and YHWH's commandments actually agree with that second position. An interesting reality that few have enough personal integrity to actually face. So, my integrity comes at $4 million. My life comes at $200 billion. And if you make the deal with me I'll steal it either way, because you're making a deal with a man who is selling his integrity.
High grade Munis, the $4 +/- million holds. You can keep your boby parts, or sell them if you wish to the highest bidder - your choice but that's not part of the integrity deal.
Deal! Transfer the $8 million gross so I can buy the $4 million in munis, and then let me know what foul integrity-free thing you would like me to do.
I don't want you integrity and never asked for it. I only asked what it is worth to you. I was a bit surprised that you had such a quick answwer in a specific dollar amount. You obviously had thought about this befors I ever asked.
What would anybody be able to do with the integrity of somebody willing to sell it anyway? As for me, I was willing to go kill people on command for a college degree and a small salary. Sure, I justified it is as "service", "to" some symbols. Motivated by their own self-interest, men will rationalize anything. My price has gone way up since those days.
