Organizers said in a separate statement that they are also considering pushing for the upstate region to become part of Pennsylvania. This would require approval from both New York state and Pennsylvania, as well as Congress. Splitting New York into two “regions” would require a state constitutional convention, and a vote on that issue will not be held until 2017. The group posted a graphic showing the proposed new boundaries on its Facebook page, which can be seen below: According to Gawker, another group involved in the campaign, Shooters Committee On Political Education New York (SCOPE NY), has come out against gun safety legislation signed by Gov. Andrew Cuomo in response to the mass shooting attack in Newtown, Connecticut. Secession advocates have also criticized Cuomo’s administration for opposing fracking. A petition supporting the split had garnered just over 3,200 signatures by Friday night. “Why secession? Secession is about reclaiming the economic opportunities Upstate has lost and restoring the liberties Upstate residents once enjoyed,” the groups said in a statement. “Downstate has dominated Upstate for decades and Upstate has no future in a state controlled by New York City’s needs and desires.” However, Gawker reported that downstate New York gave a collective $12 billion in tax money to the upstate region in 2009 and 2010 alone. Wish they would reconsider their border and add Rockland County . Let's put it this way . We the people of upstate NY have lived in a constant state of economic depression since the 1930s . The state politics is dominated by NYC and it's burbs (which have for years moved further and further into the ranks of the socialist Democrat wing. I have been leaning towards the idea of breaking away for a while . The recent decision by Governor il duce Cuomo to deny citizens of the state the right to exploit the energy resources under their property was my tipping point. Splitting from NYC is and always will be a pipe dream. So much so, I moved from everyone I knew to escape it. NY will always be a libtarded, over taxed, over regulated blue state CESSPOOL. Do yourself a favor, look at every counties election results in NYS for the 2012 elections. You might be surprised how many counties outside of NYC were won by O'bunghole. lol

It was politically schizo. NY state has been politically descending into an Eastern version of California. I doubt the powers in NYC would ever let the "New Amsterdam" area go.

I started out in the Bronx [St. Raymond's (Castle Hill/Parkchester) and St. Frances de Chantal (Throg's Neck)] and then the family moved to the island outside the city. All my known living relatives no longer live in NY. In 2014, Cuomo won 16 counties, Astorino won 46 counties. Absent the "New York Region" votes, I doubt Cuomo would have won in 2014. He took 87% in the Bronx, 80% in Manhattan, 79% in Brooklyn, 75% in Queens, and 55% in Staten Island. That is sort of hard to overcome in the rest of the state. I realize this... but when only 3,000 people favor the chains and tyranny that NYC causes, and still live well outside of NYC, out of 180,000, then they are screwed. Here's my point.... 180,000 people in Monroe county voted... do you really think that only the 3,000 more that voted for Astorino are the only gun owners? Gun owners outside of NYC are voting to put Cuck Fuomo in office... and I won't be one of their peers. Fuck them.
