Are people willing to be poor if that is the price of independence?

The recent election in Scotland, and the cave-in of Greek resistance seems to indicate no.

Wish they would reconsider their border and add Rockland County .

Let's put it this way . We the people of upstate NY have lived in a constant state of economic depression since the 1930s . The state politics is dominated by NYC and it's burbs (which have for years moved further and further into the ranks of the socialist Democrat wing. I have been leaning towards the idea of breaking away for a while . The recent decision by Governor il duce Cuomo to deny citizens of the state the right to exploit the energy resources under their property was my tipping point. Across the border in Pennsylvania they have unleashed the restraints and the economic impact has been telling .

Splitting from NYC is and always will be a pipe dream. So much so, I moved from everyone I knew to escape it. NY will always be a libtarded, over taxed, over regulated blue state CESSPOOL.

Do yourself a favor, look at every counties election results in NYS for the 2012 elections. You might be surprised how many counties outside of NYC were won by O'bunghole. lol

These days it has gone lopsidedly Dem.

In days gone by (50s - 60s), it was closely split with NYC and Nassau very Dem, and with upstate very GOP, and Suffolk closely split toward GOP. It was politically schizo.

NY state has been politically descending into an Eastern version of California. I doubt the powers in NYC would ever let the "New Amsterdam" area go.

You are right... No, they won't. And even if it did, the CNY, Upstate and western counties would still vote a Shitlery or Cuck Fuomo in office without the help of NYC.

That's why I left. I refused to feed the libtard machine... like Bucky and Tpaine does in kookifornia.

I left NY when I joined the Navy a half century ago. I started out in the Bronx [St. Raymond's (Castle Hill/Parkchester) and St. Frances de Chantal (Throg's Neck)] and then the family moved to the island outside the city. All my known living relatives no longer live in NY.

In 2014, Cuomo won 16 counties, Astorino won 46 counties. Absent the "New York Region" votes, I doubt Cuomo would have won in 2014. He took 87% in the Bronx, 80% in Manhattan, 79% in Brooklyn, 75% in Queens, and 55% in Staten Island. That is sort of hard to overcome in the rest of the state.

The "New York Region" includes nine (9) counties, the "New Amsterdam Region" includes fifty-three (53) counties.

http://www.newamsterdamny.org/about.html

The New York Region shall consist of the counties Bronx, Kings, New York, Queens, Richmond, Nassau, Rockland, Suffolk, and Westchester.

The New Amsterdam Region shall consist of the counties of Albany, Allegany, Broome, Cattaraugus, Cayuga, Chautauqua, Chemung, Chenango, Clinton, Columbia, Cortland, Delaware, Dutchess, Erie, Essex, Franklin, Fulton, Genesee, Greene, Hamilton, Herkimer, Jefferson, Lewis, Livingston, Madison, Monroe, Montgomery, Niagara, Oneida, Onondaga, Ontario, Orange, Orleans, Oswego, Otsego, Putnam, Rensselaer, Saratoga, Schenectady, Schoharie, Schuyler, Seneca, St. Lawrence, Steuben, Sullivan, Tioga, Tompkins, Ulster, Warren, Washington, Wayne, Wyoming, and Yates.

http://www.politico.com/2014-election/results/map/governor/new-york/

Note: the list at the above link shows Manhattan, Brooklyn and Staten Island counties. Their correct county names are New York County, Kings County, and Richmond County, as listed in the New York and New Amsterdam regions.

Cuomo won eight (8) "New York Region" counties -- all except Suffolk County.

In the "New Amsterdam Region," Cuomo won eight (8) counties, [Albany, Broome, Clinton, Erie, Essex, Franklin, Onondaga, Tomkins], for a total of sixteen (16) counties.

Republican Astorino won the rest of counties (46).

The counties that went Republican comprise the overwhelming majority of the land area in the state, but they are rural and sparsely populated in comparison to the relatively tiny "New York Region" states.

There is a parallel national trend where Republicans win an overwhelming majority of counties in the presidential elections, but the Democrats score overwhelming wins in most high-population urban areas.

The tax dollars go to the black hole of the urban areas, not to the rural areas.

Some folks in Nassau/Suffolk would prefer to go as well. In 2014, Cuomo lost in Suffolk (49-48) to Astorino. In Nassau, Cuomo won 52-44.

* Welcome to Long Island State * We Invite you to Join us as we build America's 51st State * It's Time Long Island Saves Itself

Section 1. Legislative findings: Nassau and Suffolk Counties comprise an area of 2,826 square miles, larger than the states of Rhode Island and Delaware. The combined population of the two counties is 2.798 million which is greater than the population of 19 states. For the years 2002-2004, Long Island paid 8.124 billion dollars in state taxes yet only 5.2 billion dollars was returned in direct local aid, tuition assistance, highway aid, pension payments, lottery money, metropolitan transportation authority subsidies and Medicaid payments. For many years the question of forming the state of Long Island has been discussed in public and academic forums. The issue should be investigated, a report prepared and referendum held in Nassau and Suffolk counties so the citizens may be heard.

3+ BILLION $$$ REASONS FOR LONG ISLAND TO BECOME THE 51st STATE

“A unified voice from both Nassau and Suffolk counties would send a serious message to Albany that we reject their illegitimate taxes and fees upon Long Islanders,” said Sawicki who has long promoted the idea of secession as a way to solve Long Island’s fiscal woes. “The Dowling college study has proven that we send over $3 billion more to Albany than we get back. That $3 billion can provide enormous tax relief for Long Islanders instead of being used to bail out the rest of the State.”

Yes, but look at the numbers. Take Monroe County... That's Rochester... far far away from NYC, and one of the more populated counties outside of that shithole city.... and Astorino only won by 3,000 votes out of 180,000.

R R. Astorino 48.3% 93,786

D A. Cuomo (i) 46.8% 90,000

NY is fucked.

NY is fucked.

But see that the GOP actually wins the popular vote of the combined 57 counties outside of NYC by 94,116. Cuomo would not win in the imaginary "New Amsterdam" region.

The entire state is fucked because NYC is a basket case. As long as the politicos keep robbing the people to buy the votes in the five borroughs, they will continue to get 80+% of the vote in NYC.

1,919,225 - 1,443,713 TOTAL -- 475,512 State Dem margin

113,369 - 14,414 Bronx -- 98,955 Dem margin

222,727 - 42,673 Brooklyn -- 180,054

191,379 - 30,695 Manhattan -- 160,684

169,300 - 47,848 Queens -- 121,452

41,313 - 32,830 Staten Island -- 8,483

738,088 - 168,460 NYC total 81.4% - 18.6%.

- - - - -

569,628 -- NYC five county Dem margin

475,512 -- State Dem margin

94,116 -- State GOP margin outside NYC.
