Sneakypete, do you have an opinion on the two referenced firearms? I have heard some good and bad feedback on both.

MK9 with pinky rest mag - 7 rounds

Flush Mag - two finger grip - 6 rounds

I've had a Kahr MK9 Stainless Steel with the two finger short grip for a number of years. I love it. It's single stack thin, and is easy to slip into your pants pocket, and sort of forget that it's even there.

It's been reliable, and is easy for me to shoot. Those polymer frame ones would probably have more recoil since they're lighter.

Kahr's are very high quality.

On the other hand - Taurus's are relatively cheap.

I've heard a lot of complaints about a 200 rounds break-in procedure for these guns. I know it is common to have a break-in for carry guns for obvious reasons. I've heard complaints about mags dropping out of the gun while firing and other unique problems. I commonly carry a concealed weapon even in church as self-protection might be necessary at some point even in church. We live in an interesting world.

This is what I have, Kel Tec pf9. It has been proven to work as in Trayvon and I have used mine to take out a +60lb pitbull with one shot.

Its as small as one can get but big enough to hold with firepower.

Just my 2 cents.

I have a clip I use instead of a holster. I have no way to hind a holster with out being very obvious I have something on my waist.

Don, I have never shot a KAHR. I have talked to a couple of guys who owned one. I have always heard & read good comments on them.

I will be interested to see what Pete thinks. Personally, I usually either carry a 1911, a Glock, or a S&W 36.

I have a Kel-Tek,which is similar to the Kahr, and came out around the same time. IIRC,both were rated to be equal in quality at the time, and I bought the Kel-Tech primarily because I found it for sale at a better price than the 9mm Kahr. If I had found a Kahr cheaper,I would have bought the Kahr.

I've been very happy with my Kel-Tech even though I only carry it during warm weather (easier to conceal) when I go to town. Very accurate little pistol with no problems.

Both are single-action only pistols and that makes them very safe to carry in pockets as well as very fast to fire when you want to fire because there is no safety to hang up on something or to disengage when you need to shoot. Just point and click.

Not sure how much helps you, though.

BTW,I wouldn't buy the 40 caliber version of either, though. Too much muzzle blast and recoil, making follow up shots hard to shoot accurately. Stick with the 9mm and you will be ok.

I have the earlier version of that gun,and have never had any problems at all with it.

BTW,for those who don't know,the 9mm Kel-Tec holds 10 rounds in the standard magazine.

I carry either the 45 ACP Combat Commander I built or my 3 inch 44 Special revolver most of the time, but in real hot weather when I am wearing shorts and a light t-shirt I carry the Kel-Tec. As you pointed out,it has a clip built right on the side of the pistol that can be used to clip it to the inside of your waistband, and nobody will ever notice it under a t-shirt.

Those are sweet. I have a Colt Officers model that was given to me as a retirement gift a number of years ago. Now that I am older, I need to dig it out of the safe and start carrying it, instead of one of my full size government models.

The Officers model is somewhat smaller, and lighter, although it is only 6 rounds. But it will accept 7 & 8 round mags. If 6 rounds is not enough, I always carry two spare Chip McCormick 8 rounders. If that still isn't enough, well, I guess I am really in trouble, LOL! Time to break out some heavy stuff, LOL!

If 6 rounds is not enough,.....

If 6 rounds ain't enough you need some target practice.

My 44 Special only carries 5 rounds, and I don't even bother to carry reloads for it. I figure by the time I have shot 5 times there will be at least one loaded gun left laying around on the ground with nobody to use it,and any survivors still vertical will have heard their mama calling, and be high-stepping towards home.

Thugs ain't trained soldiers, and by the time you pop one or two of them in the head with a 200 grain hollowpoint any left standing will have lost all their enthusiasm when it comes to attacking you. They picture THEM shooting other people in their heads, and it never seems to occur to them that other people will sometimes shoot back and hit what they are shooting at. I suspect they are stars in some music or rap video in their minds, and everything is about posing and styling. Having your brains blown out the back of your head ain't very stylish.

" If 6 rounds ain't enough you need some target practice. "

Well, generally, I would agree, especially if you are dealing with less than 6 targets.

However, it could be a situation where there are too many targets. For example, back in my younger, single, reckless days, I had an encounter like that once. About twelve or 14 aholes. This was at a party out on a farm. These clowns had been there for 3 days, drinking moonshine, ingesting who knows what, and were armed with log chains, tire tools & ax's. For some reason the main loudmouth had it in for a friend of mine, who had invited me. I was glad I had spare mags. Fortunately, I was able to convince them that they were about to make a really big mistake. and was really glad they decided to withdraw. I then loaded up my girlfriend and got the hell out of there.

Anyway, I am a fairly decent shot, but like many things in life, you never know when you leave the house how many targets you may have to deal with. ( Hopefully, none ) I believe the old scout motto " be prepared ", and "better to have it & not need it, than to need it & not have it. "

It is a good thought to carry a spare magazine or two. It would be nice to not need a reload.

I carry the Kahr CW 9! but I also have the 40 caliber. I bought the Kahr 40 a couple of months ago and finally got around to shooting it. After a round or several, the magazine would drop an inch or two. The gunsmith asked how I was holding the gun and I showed him. He said the problem might be how I am holding the gun. As you know, the recoil is bad on this light, smallish gun. The recoil might be pushing the mag release catch against my thumb with the expected result. I thought about it, and that isn't too far fetched. The gun does kick more than a little. I will have to test that idea next week.

I typically fired expert when I was in the Air Force Security Police. Now, I need to get my cataracts fixed. The sights just aren't as crisp as back then. I rented a Baretta FS 9 at the range and loved it. My wife bought a new one for me. The sights are beautiful for my eyes, and the gun is very accurate.

EXCELLENT idea, and I encourage everyone to do it. Even filters from cigarettes are better than nothing.

Unfortunately,it is too late for me. The word I use more than any other when talking is "Huh?"

Yes,the VA gave me a hearing aid a couple of years ago. A very good one. Maybe even too good because suddenly I was hearing stuff I haven't heard in decades, including people walking up behind me. The problem was they were suddenly walking so "loud" they were scaring the hell out of me.

I quit wearing it for that reason,as well as the personal observation that I am probably better off not hearing most of the crap people say to me anyhow.

I carry in my front pocket with the flush mag in it. The extended mag is in my left rear pocket. It's single stack and pretty flat, so I hardly notice it's there.

No pocket holster or mag pouch, just reach into the pocket and grab.

Being from Texas its near impossible to conceal carry your weapon. Its just too damn hot to wear thick or oversize shirts.

I was talking to a crane operator while at a job and we were bs'ing when he brought up the concealed weapon topic. He said if you see a middle aged white dude with baggy shirt its best not to mess with them because you probably will get shot dead. LOL he is right.

I carry a Glock 30, all year around without any concealable problems. With the right IWB holster, you can comfortably hide a full sized 45 while wearing cargo shorts, tank top and flip flops. All you gotta do is carry it at the 4:30 position (between your rear right pocket and right side pocket.

No need for single stack guns, downsized guns or guns with grip lengths so short you need extended mags or grip extensions to shoot comfortably.

I prefer the Glock over the 1911 because it holds more rounds, weighs less and is a much faster shooting platform.

About as accurate as a Norinco SKS rifle - which -

Correction - a wildy inaccurate piece of Chinese
