To understand why the GOP establishment hates Donald Trump I would recommend all LRC readers examine the works of Walter Karp. He was one of America’s most astute and brilliant essayists. Walter Karp was a genuine Jeffersonian who championed the core values of our Republic against those who would replace it with an empire and an elite oligarchy. Here is a link with excerpts from his 1973 classic, Indispensable Enemies:  The Politics of Misrule in America. In these excerpts Karp discusses the foundations of party power, the system of collusion, and party regulars and insurgents.

The GOP elite and their corporatist backers (like their mirror counterparts at the DNC) hate insurgents or outsiders with “loose cannon” supporters they cannot control. (This was precisely why they hated, feared and loathed Ron Paul and his dedicated legions of supporters.)

The biggest myth in politics is that political parties are in business to win elections. These criminal cartels are in business to maintain their networks of crony corruption, patronage, and payoff which are their reasons for being. The National Security State, driven by the imperial presidency, an acquiescent congress and a complacent federal judiciary, has destroyed the American Republic. Their parasitic welfare-warfare state, enabled by the Fed, fosters and promotes the profligacy and dependency which is at the root of this destructive process.

One of the great lies about American politics is that Republicans genuinely subscribe to a set of core convictions that make Republicans different from Democrats.

Day by day, their meaningless stands on diversionary issues such as immigration, same-sex marriage, or the “war on drugs” have merged until little distinction remains. They are now but factions in the one true political party in America — the Incumbent Party. Despite all posturing and pretense, their only real dispute concerns whose clients will get the loot. . . and whose the bill.

Trump, in his arrogantly and hubristic fashion, has revealed this truth. And they hate him for it.

Capitol Hill has become one vast congressional clip-joint, where members “service” their constituents the way a second-story man “services” a luxury condo. This lies at the root of every economic ill plaguing the country — Wall Street bailouts, massive foreign and domestic debt, Pentagon plunder — the list could go on and on.

Because of this thievery, your income is 60 percent of what it should be. The other 40 percent is forcibly taken by politicians and given to tax-consuming special interests. The parasitical profiteers return some of the ill-gotten gains to their benefactors in the form of campaign contributions, gifts or fees.

Here is how the ruse works in detail: Politicians allocate (steal) taxpayer funds for programs under the guise of alleviating the plight of the poor, the homeless, the sick, the elderly and the unemployed, and serving the “public interest” or “national security.” Yet it is not the mother’s milk of human kindness and compassion which lubricates the intricate gears of political machinery. It is the snake oil of expediency.

The bureaucrats who administer this flim-flam provide taxpayer funds to political advocacy groups through massive grants and contracts, ostensibly intended to fulfill program objectives. However, much of the money received by the special interests is used to lobby, campaign and organize support for the mandarins to manage, additional funding for existing programs, and the re-election of their shills who favor the appropriations which play politics with human misery.

Farcical public hearings are staged to persuade the complacent and compliant news media that greater spending is essential to deal with these pressing problems. Incumbents then appropriate more funds for existing malevolence and initiate new mischief through legislative legerdemain.

In turn, they mass their campaign contributions from clients and franking privileges for their re-election efforts. The bureaucracy awards more pilfered taxpayers’ funds to the special interests, and the process begins all over again.

The losers are the hapless taxpayers who pay for this sophisticated protection racket and the truly unfortunate members of society who receive only a fraction of the promised benefits of the programs set up in their names.

The winners are those tax-consuming bunko artists and wirepullers who gorge themselves at the public trough. The looted tax monies are siphoned off by special interests to promote their schemes, by public employees who want to finance the expansion of their petty bureaucratic empires, and by grasping politicians who want hard cash for re-election kitties and for conversion to their own personal use

The article reflects a lot of the pro-Trump sentiment we read from various Trump supporters. It makes some good arguments why smaller government is better for ordinary citizens of all kinds.

Smaller government WOULD be better for everybody. it would stop us as we descend down the death spiraling path of the Soviet Union and other empires.

The first, biggest piece of government we need to shrink is the conventional military, and our overseas commitments. We need to bring US forces home to American soil, all of them, and work politically with nations to take on their own defense. Europe has two nuclear powers and is capable of it right now.

East Asia has only nuclear China (Russia doesn't count) and dirty-bomb North Korea If we were ever planning on intervening there again, then encouraging the Japanese, Koreans, Filipinos and Taiwanese to nuke up for their own defense would not be in our interests. But it is not in our interest to be there at all, and if those local powers nuke up, they will be secure against China, and will act as a strong deterrent to OUR return to the region. Which is good: it will remove the temptation from future American Presidents to re-intervene.

The same is true of an (eventually) nuclear Iran and Saudi Arabia. The Middle East is a mess. It's rich. We don't belong there. We shouldn't ENCOURAGE radicals to get nukes, but we're not stopping them either.

We need to get out. If the Chinese, Russians, Euroepans and Israelis decide to intervene and divvy the region up BEFORE it nukes up, they may do so, and expend their energies and treasures worrying each other. WE should not be there. We don't need anything over there anymore. If the locals nuke up first, that will bring stability and keep the great powers out. It is not our concern. WE need to be out of all of it.

WIth all US forces home, we don't need anything like the forces we have. The US Army and US Marine Corps belongs on the Mexican Border, but can do the job of stopping unarmed immigration and armed drug trafficking (maybe) with about a quarter of the force we have. We need an air force and a Navy a quarter of the size we have. We're not "a force for good" in the world. We are a force, pure and simple, and a force for the bankruptcy of the American people. The single largest cut in government size we need to undertake is to cut the conventional military by 75% and bring it all home.

We also need to cease providing military aid to foreign nations after the transition. Food and medical aid, sure. Military aid? No. Considering that well over half of our foreign aid is military aid to Israel, that will end most of our costs for foreign aid. Israel has nukes and can rely on their nukes for their survival. The Aeerican taxpayer should be providing precisely zero to the military security of Israel.

The second massive government cut should be in law enforcement and prisons. We start by ending prohibition. The first time, of alcohol, created organized crime and corrupted the government and the police forces. The second time, it's drugs. Legalize them, empty the prisons and parole lists of drug offenders, blanket pardon everybody who didn't kill somebody, and let it go.

As a moral basis for the policy, go Biblical: God gave mankind - all of it - all of the plants. God never gave part of mankind any authority to stick a gun in the face of the rest of it and prohibit them the use of any plant. Drug prohibition is sinful: it oppresses people and takes away their right to exercise the dominion God gave them over creation. Of course people will get hurt from some drugs, and this is best handled by education, rehab and treatment. Drug rehab is a lot cheaper than police salaries and prisons. Over half of our prisoners are related to drug offenses, and the massive, intrusive police forces are devoted to fighting it.

Police forces and prisons in the United States need to be slashed by 75%. The police and prisons must be focused on violent crime only, not economic crime.

Those two cuts directly reduce the size and intrusiveness of government. Between the two, they will save us about 30% of budget a year, which is more than enough to put us into a surplus.

We must go further: The single greatest expenditure of American government is education. We spend far more on it than any other nation, and we get some of the worst results. This needs to be reoriented along the lines of other national models. We needn't go into details now.

Likewise health insurance: it will be much less expensive if single payer.

Social Security is already a universal pension. It should be rejiggered to fully fill that role, obviating the rest.

The rest is detail. Those five areas are the lion's share of government.

Needless to say, the surpluses need to go to rapidly retiring the national, state and municipal debt. Once the debt is eliminated, taxes can be cut to the levels needed to maintain the structure without interest payments.

That's how you do it.

The first, biggest piece of government we need to shrink is the conventional military, and our overseas commitments.

We are already fumbling about trying to cover Japan/SKorea/Taiwan and the Mideast with our remaining carriers. During our lifetimes, we've never had such a weak Navy.

Much the same can be said of military readiness and numbers in the other branches.

We might make some progress there. Already, many states are paroling current inmates (to balance budgets) and changing their sentencing guidelines. Surely you must be aware of it from your day-to-day reading. In education, we must make the welfare of the student and the outcomes of students the first and only priority. Under Dem control, the primary objective is imposing political correctness and Lefty doctrine on all students and teacher tenure and pay is the primary financial outcome that is protected. And federal involvement in education has only made it more expensive. Even the Federal Reserve, a pack of liberals for the most part, has produced studies on how counterproductive current federal subsidy programs are.

As more and more have some experience with loading up on education debt, I think Hispanics will prefer Republican policy.

For that matter, education policy is one of the few areas where the GOP can still make good appeals to black parents that the GOP is better for their kids' education than Dem policy is. Blacks like the voucher programs (when they can get them) and being able to choose a public school they like or even use the money for a private school.

We should not be covering any of these places at all. Japan, S. Korea and Taiwan should be covering themselves with their own nuclear and conventional forces. They have vast economies and large populations. We should not be sending carriers to protect their national security. We should be scrapping them to give OUR nation an economic future.

We are going the way of the USSR because of military overspend.

Education needs a fix.

A key fix is that endowments should be taxed like any other business, on any money they don't distribute as tuition.

So, money they reinvest to make the endowment bigger should be taxed. Profit and contributions should be taxed. Money they spend directly on students should not be taxed. Money they lend to students without interest should not be taxed.

Universities should not have billions of dollars are highly paid investment advisors. If they have billions, students should be selected on merit and going there for free.

I notice this today at HA: 'Also guesting on “State of the Union” with Jake Tapper: Josh Alcorn, a former senior advisor to Beau Biden who just moved over to the “Draft Biden” Super PAC to get operations ready in case Diamond Joe decides to jump into the presidential campaign. If any news is going to be made this morning, he’s the guy most likely to make it.'

You can DVR it or catch it later on CNN.com.

I don't have DVR. I don't watch TV actually. I suppose I could go to CNN.com, but I'll just take your report of it as being so.

Given that I see how the sausage is going to look at the end, and I'm not really very interested in the process - especially on the Democrat side (Democrats bore me) - I will take your word for it and think "Mmmmhmmmm. Of course!" Now it will unfold as I've said.

Hillary has taken an astringent stance on her servers. Obama has authorized the investigation to plow ahead. She cannot get away, and he's not going to let her. The leaks and revelations will come. She will develop the health problems and have to go home to her grandchild.

Biden will be the nominee.

Trump's position on immigration will electrify the nation. There are huge majorities that oppose illegal immigration, and lots of Mexicans too. He's polarized everything now, and is looking for the surge of support from that. He will get it too, nobody else is saying anything like that, or ever will.

His chances of being the nominee are way up. He looks like he's having fun eating pork chop on a stick, and he probably IS having fun, precisely because it's corn pone, and he's not corn pone, and when you're not and everybody knows you're not, you can go and have fun doing it, and they have fun watching you.

Trump at the Iowa State Fair is "Green Acres". And everybody loved Green Acres.
