Haven't heard any New Riders lately, and I think this one sums up the LA mentality of the 70's better than any other song.

Now we get to the religious part of our program, with Goose Creek Symphony.

And follow up with a little fiddle music.

I once knocked a guy out for standing where I wanted to dance when they were playing "Orange Blossom Special".

I may have been drinking a bit.

...identify with it...

I had a childhood friend at 5 years old - he reminds
me of this song. He died at 44 years old. A long time ago.
I - and even my mother - were shocked that he died so young.
His name was David.

I’m gonna need someone to help me

I’m gonna need somebodies hand

I’m gonna need someone to hold me down

I’m gonna need someone to care

I’m gonna writhe and shake my body

I’ll start pulling out my hair

I’m going to cover myself with the ashes of you and nobody’s gonna give a damn

Son of a bitch

Give me a drink

Won’t more night

This can’t be me

Son of a bitch

If I can’t get clean

I’m gonna drink my life away

Now for seventeen years I’ve been throwing them back

Seventeen more will bury me

Can somebody please just tie me down

Or somebody give me a goddamn drink

Son of a bitch

Give me a drink

Won’t more night

This can’t be me

Son of a bitch

If I can’t get clean

I’m gonna drink my life away

My heart was aching hand are shaking bugs a crawling all over me

I've actually had some cousins that would drink after shave lotion if that's all they could find.

Most lived to their late 60's to mid-70's,but I have no idea how or why.

The younger generation of drunks seem to be dying out younger. One died a couple of years ago right before he turned 60. Who would think that a diet of straight whiskey and cocaine would be bad for you? Especially if you are already getting on a kidney machine?

That is a hell of a song though, isn't it? Got the whole gospel/R&B thing going.

I think my boyhood friend David's love of Jose' Cuervo
tequila is what probably killed him.
I've always hated the stuff. ANY tequila, I mean.

You ain't by yourself.

There were LOTS of nervous rednecks in bars when "Up Against the Wall,Redneck Mothers" would play.

It didn't take them long to learn that not everybody with long hair and a beard was a pacifist.

I don't know how this was possible, but I never once even tasted tequila back when I was drinking.

I dearly loved the white whiskey that came in 1 gallon milk jugs, though!

Don't bother to try it.
Strangely enough it has a taste and aroma quite similar to vomit.
Blech.

No worries there. I quit drinking in 1980,due to popular demand.
