A gunman who also had a hatchet was killed today by law enforcement at a movie theater in the Nashville, Tennessee area, police said.
Nashville police spokesman Don Aaron said that the man had a gun and a hatchet as well as two backpacks when the shooting occurred at the Carmine Hickory movie theater in Antioch.
The shooting reportedly started during the theater's afternoon showing of "Mad Max: Fury Road."
Police said that they encountered the gunman in the back of the theater and he opened fire. A responding officer returned fire and backed out of the theater.
Then the SWAT team came in and killed the suspect, officials said.
The suspect was wearing one of the bags when he was shot inside the theater. Another bag was left behind and both were being searched by law enforcement, Aaron said.
Nashville Fire Department spokesman Brian Haas said there were no major injuries in the attack and that three people were treated for minor injuries. Each of the three people had injuries related to the use of pepper spray and one of those three also suffered a "superficial" wound that he described as "a bruise" from the suspect's hatchet.
