Title: Poll: Trump Crushes Bush and Walker Combined; Favorability Rockets to 52%.

Because of the small sample size, there were a lot of questions surrounding Monday’s Wall Street Journal/NBC News poll that showed Donald Trump leading the Republican primary field and, interestingly enough, appearing to siphon votes away from establishment candidates like Jeb Bush and Sen. Marco Rubio (R-FL)80% .

A Monmouth University poll, also released Monday and with a somewhat larger sample size and smaller margin of error, shows Trump in first place, beating both Scott Walker and Jeb Bush combined.

The poll puts Trump in first place with 26% support. Second place Jeb Bush and third place Scott Walker sit at 12% and 11%, respectively.

That is what you call a blow out.

The remainder of the “top ten” includes Sen. Ted Cruz (R-TX)96% (6%), Mike Huckabee (6%), Ben Carson (5%), Chris Christie (4%), Sen. Rand Paul (R-KY)93% (4%), Marco Rubio (4%), and John Kasich (3%). Carly Fiorina and Rick Perry each earn 2% and Bobby Jindal, Rick Santorum, Sen. Lindsey Graham (R-SC)47% , George Pataki, and Jim Gilmore each get 1% or less. Another 10% of GOP voters say they still are unsure who they will support for the party’s nomination.

Compared to the last Monmouth poll just three weeks ago, Trump’s support increased 13%, while Walker jumped 4%. Bush and Cruz both lost 3%.

The biggest news here is the increase in Trump’s favorability rating, which is now at 52% favorable to 35% unfavorable.

Three weeks ago, the millionaire businessman was upside-down 40% to 41%.

Currently, Trump’s favorability rating is higher than that of Mike Huckabee (51%), Rand Paul (48%), Rick Perry (46%), Ben Carson (45%), Bobby Jindal (36%), and Carly Fiorina (30%). Chris Christie, Lindsey Graham, and George Pataki are currently at 30% favorable or below.

Moreover, Trump’s 52% favorability ties Bush and Cruz. Only Marco Rubio beats Trump with 54%.

Trump’s unfavorable rating is only 6% higher than that of Jeb Bush.

Trump is winning among men and women, young and old, conservative Republicans and liberal Republicans, Tea Party Republicans and non-Tea Party Republicans.

As Trump rose in the polls, his detractors in the media and GOP Establishment kept pointing to his high unfavorable ratings as a sign that his potential ceiling of support was too low for him to win the Republican nomination.

According to this poll, at least, that is no longer the case. All you need in a two-person race is 51%. That number is even lower when you add more candidates.

Okay, but what do Dims think of the Donald?

I hear lots of locals talking about the guy. Generally, they like him because he isn't a politician and his speaking points ring true with them.

I wonder how long this love affair will last.

As much as the GOP elite despises Trump, they have actually poured a lot of gasoline on that fire.

The GOP is too busy trying to make everyone happy, especially the illegals, the sexual aberrants, the leftists, the feminists, the baby killers, and all other minorities, to worry about the conservative principles on which the party was founded.

I'm for Trump. I like him. He's smart. He says things that I agree with. I think he'll actually do some of them.

On the Democrat side, I hope Biden comes to the fore and is the nominee. Because the Democrat may very well win, and Joe Biden would be a decent President. Hillary would be a corrupt monster nightmare.

So, I'm hoping to see Trump versus Biden. I hope Trump wins that. But if he loses, Biden won't be terrible.

He's sometimes as candid as Trump, though it's often accidental.

The best ticket for Republicans would be Trump/Rubio.

The best ticket for Democrats would be Biden/anybody-but-Hillary.

That way, no matter who wins, things will work out ok.

Of course I want to see Trump/Oprah. That would be a hoot.

Trump also cuts out the "middle man." He has his own money and does not have to kowtow to special interest groups to get money.

It will be a tough ride for him but I will enjoy watching it.

The GOP leadership establishment is under the impression that that the race for president and congress should be won by the biggest and loudest assholes, not the stablest and most rational minds. It is a clear detriment to the country.

Just asking around my area and watching various sites online indicates that he is very popular. Many have said, "I never thought I'd vote for Trump, but I am going to vote for Trump!" Trump is managing to pull support from all sides.

Let's see ....Trump talks trash about McCain's military record ,and when the NH Union Leader writes a negative Op Ed about his comments ,he bows out of the 1st forum where all the candidates view were aired and questioned . Is that what we can expect from Trump in the future ? Run away ! Is Trump showing that he can't handle the day to day grind of being a candidate .Is it that he is so thin skinned that he'd rather pout when challenged by a potentially hostile interviewer than try to persuade ? Maybe it's because he is the only candidate in the Republican field who has supported nationalized health care ,higher taxes ,amnesty ,and has given tons of money to Democrats . Would he be a no show President too ?

First all the candidates weren't there.

Second it was strategic. There were to many on the stage. He made them look litte.

It is a good thing you are not advising him. Not that you are a bad person. You just have some blind spots.

Let's see ....Trump talks trash about McCain's military record

Yes he did. Trump trashed McCain, BECAUSE McCain trashed the people listening to Trump as "crazies".

McCain insulted Trump's audience, so Trump took aim squarely at McCain, and hit him in a place where he is weak. Yes, he was a prisoner in Vietnam, and that was terrible, but he got to be a prisoner in Vietnam because he got himself shot down by being an idiot (and that was the second or third plane he wrecked).

John Kerry was a Vietnam vet with a couple of Purple Hearts, and the Republicans were happy to Swift Boat his Vietnam service when it suited their purposes. McCain was a fuck up in the military. He wasted his Annapolis education and destroyed three airplanes. He redeemed his honor by behaving honorably as a prisoner of war.

But if McCain is going to impugn the intelligence of thousands of people, calling them crazies, then his own character and record are open game. And truth is, McCain's military record was pretty shameful until he got shot down. And then, in prison, he did what was right.

He came home a hero, was elected to Congress, and hasn't done what was right since.

If you call the People "crazy", you are fair game. McCain attacked the People. Trump attacked McCain. The hysteria that resulted reminds me of the hysteria when the Swift Boaters outed Kerry. The problem that Kerry and McCain both have is that the attacks against their military records were true. So all that's left is spluttering outrage that anybody should dare to call these men out for being the mediocre officers they were.

It wrecked their meme. The only reason McCain or Kerry are in Congress is because of their war record, and adulterous marriages to wealthy women. If they don't want to be reminded of that, they should not attack the people. If they attack the people, their feet of clay should be exposed.

When you live in a glass house, do not throw stones.

last night all of the candidates, except Donald Trump, were in NH. It went on for two hours, after watching and thinking, I can see why Donald didn't go.

Without mentioning his name even once, each of the candidates tried to hit on points made by Donald Trump trying to prove themselves worthy to be his VP choice.

Bush, Rubio, the leftist governors from Ohio and New York all but eliminated themselves.

Cruz, the woman who bankrupted HP, Rand Paul and Scott Walker looked pretty good, but none had anywhere the presidential carriage and speech of Donald Trump.

McCain was a ---- up in the military. He wasted his Annapolis education and destroyed three airplanes. He redeemed his honor by behaving honorably as a prisoner of war.

And is suspected of being the pilot that fired a missle on an aircraft carrier destroying a dozen planes and killing more than one, if memory serves me correctly.

Had McCain's dad and grandad not been 3 and 4 star admirals, McCain would have been court-martialed.

"Three weeks ago, the millionaire businessman was upside-down 40% to 41%."

Uh-huh. And six weeks ago the Huffington Post gleefully reported an ABC/Washington Post poll putting Trump at 16 percent faorable "and an overwhelming 71 percent said they viewed him unfavorably".

"A Quinnipiac national poll conducted around the same time shows similar results: 69 percent view Trump unfavorably, and only 20 percent view him favorably. Monmouth University released a national poll Monday that also shows only 20 percent view Trump favorably."

I wonder if the Huffington Post is going to keep Trump in the Entertainment section?

"Maybe it's because he is the only candidate in the Republican field who has supported nationalized health care ,higher taxes ,amnesty ,and has given tons of money to Democrats ".

I support nationalized health care. Obamacare is futile. Primary health insurance in the United States should be provided by Medicare. Private insurers can cover the "gap".

I support higher taxes on the wealthy. Really I support EQUAL taxation of everybody, at a set percentage, of all wealth. But since that's not on the cards, then I certainly support imposing the Social Security tax on every dollar of employer income, and I support Reagan's tax policy that taxed capital gains at the same rate as regular income. I also support sales taxes on securities transactions.

Trump is a businessman who builds buildings in New York, New Jersey and Connecticut, Democratic strongholds. Like all businesses, he curries favor with politicians. It's Trump's money, and he has the right to give it to whomever he pleases. Has he ever given to any Republicans?

What is the Republican plan on healthcare? Their plan is: nothing. That's where they stand. And that's not going to work.

What's the Republican stance on taxes? Lower taxes on the most wealthy, through breaks on the sources of their income relative to the sources of average people's income.

Amnesty. Well, we could have a discussion on this topic. In general I'd say close the border, decriminalize drugs, sort out the people on this side of the Border, and let many of them stay.

If Trump was running on a Democrat or Libertarian ticket then the positions he's made in the past is consistent with their ideologies. But these positions (nationalize health care ,higher taxes for more government spending etc ) are not consistent with Republican ,and certainly not conservative policies.

Of course ,the real explanation is that he talks off the cuff without really even putting any deep thought into what he says. The National Journal's reporter Andy Kroll, who flew down to Trump's media non-events at the Loredo border nailed it ;

“I have zero to report about Trump's plans for actually being president—except that, from all available evidence, he hasn't given it a moment's thought. My brief adventure in Trumping, in fact, left me convinced that the whole point of this campaign—the sum total of all the "there" that is there—is the spectacle itself, the loud, fast-motion visual feast provided by an insatiable yet boxed- in press corps tracking the man's every odd move and unaccountable utterance.

Becoming president of the United States is, for Trump, beside the point. Sure, he's ahead in the polls, sometimes by double digits, but at this early date, those numbers are abstract and almost entirely meaningless—a fact that Trump probably understands quite well. There's no denying that his pugnacious attitude touches something raw in a swath of the American electorate; however, I'd argue that populist support isn't what fuels Trump, either. He mostly feeds off of us, the media. And we oblige him. Trump didn't fly to Texas for the Laredoans; he didn't go to the border to show he could be "presidential." He flew to Texas for me and the Brits and CNN.
