But after he was elected, the fist words out of their mouths was " I am a Reagan Conservative ". Nope, the northeast lib Republicans still looked down their noses at him. More of them did cave somewhat after the '84 election. Some of them refused consistently to ever say that they were Reagan Republicans. Romney, for instance, denied rather vehemently on a number of occasions that he was a Reagan Republican in any way. Of course, by the time he ran for prez, he wanted us to believe he was the Second Coming of Reagan. Mitt said this a number of times over the years when accused of being a Ronny fan. Never a kind word for Reagan until he finally set foot outside Boston and realized that that Reagan guy was kinda popular with Republican voters.
