There are those who say that was Jefferson's position, and others who say it was not. Jefferson made a number of enemies, some of which exist today who are attempting to fabicate evidence or revise history to detract from him and will reference each other exclusively to in attempts to construct a momentum in line with critical theory. I never met the man or received correspondence from him. Jefferson was an intelligent man and one of this nations founders. I think that the paraphrased quotation, although not Jefferson's exact words, is much more concise and easier to understand.
