By Joshua Krause

As time goes on, cars are becoming less of a symbol of freedom and status, and more like automated golf carts that coddle their drivers.

Every other year they add more features that take the driver’s ability out of the loop, and track the whereabouts of said driver, with the ultimate endgame being a car that simply drives itself, that can be stopped remotely, that you can’t modify, and you probably won’t even own.

In the name of “safety,” these machines are no longer being built as an expression of your freedom to travel and your standard of living.

So perhaps this new piece of legislation being proposed by New York Congresswoman, Kathleen Rice, isn’t very surprising. What was once the punishment for delinquent drivers, may soon become a new standard. She wants to force car manufactures to install ignition interlock devices, also known as a breathalyzer, on all new vehicles. If your blood alcohol content is higher than the legal limit, your car won’t start. She explained her reasoning in a recent press release. “Advancing the progress we’ve made combating drunk driving demands bold action…that’s why I’m working on legislation to require ignition interlock devices in all new cars. This technology saves lives, it saves money, and I’m going to fight to make it standard equipment in American cars.”

Gone are the days when a car was synonymous with freedom. Now they’re just another shackle in the open air prison we call America. And soon, you won’t even be able to start your car without being treated like a criminal.

"New Legislation Would Place Breathalyzers in All New Cars"

She is "working on writing it". I'd say it has a ways to go before it becomes law.

How about a vision test, also? Color blindness test? Perhaps some sort of dexterity test. A mag stripe on driver's licenses that is read by the car before starting. Must answer 5 "Rules of the Road" questions correctly before the car will start.

Hope you're not in a hurry.

A Breathalyzer is an old, outdated scientific instrument that requires the use of chemicals (ampules) and is in no way also known as an ignition interlock device.

This bill will never pass... it's a "feel good" attempt to appease the agenda driven libtards that feel no amount of money is enough money for the illusion of safety.

Agenda driven activists should be wood chipped, regardless of their cause. The ignition interlock device was a retarded idea that has zero impact on curbing or reducing DWI's. The only way to reduce DWI's is to incarcerate for a full 10 years for the 2nd conviction and 20 years for the 3rd... 30 years for the 4th should just about leave them dead in prison.

Seems to me the ones who kill someone while driving drunk or high should be facing the death penalty for murder.

"The ignition interlock device was a retarded idea that has zero impact on curbing or reducing DWI's."

True, as they're applied today. Their sole function is to allow the driver (after a DWI conviction and after serving the imposed sentence) to use the vehicle only for work.

The driver makes this decision, which avoids constitutional conflict.

Good luck getting that to pass. Your sheeple peers are to sensitive and compassionate to reduce repeat offenses the only way that will work.

My 2nd to last DWI arrest I made, prior to being assigned to the Criminal Incestigation Division was a 40 year old man, had 8 prior DWI convictions, was ordered to only operate a vehicle with ignition locking device... was driving another car that was not registered to him... and he was so intoxicated he couldn't even stand once outside the vehicle. He drove his vehicle in a ditch, was trying to drive out of it one I arrived.

He pulled a Deckard and refused to give a breath sample. The Alco-Sensor had him around a .34

My last DWI was a female, who had her 12 year old son in the car... and was over a .25%. She too drove her car in a ditch.

And when a Convicted drunk driver is ordered to install an ignition interlock device on his/her primary vehicle, and they can't afford it, who do you think pays for it?

The tax payers. The idiots that passed the ignition interlock legislation should be stood back to back and shot through the mouth.

I couldn't wait to leave that libtarded fucked up state.

If the car is used to go to work, then he has a job. If he can afford car payments, car insurance, parking, tolls, gas, oil, and repairs ... then he can afford $50-$100 per month for the ignition interlock device lease.

It doesn't work like that. The shitbags lawyer petitions the court with a "hardship". Then the court looks at his income, financial responsibilities... and decides. It's like 2K to get one installed. The shitbags even petition hardship for fines and fees... and the court eliminated most of them too.

The agenda posters have no clue what really happens after their peers shit all over society... but they are quick to defend them.

I certainly do not have ANY sympathy for anyone that drives while drunk. I only know of one case where I felt sympathy for the driver. Long story, but as a rule, no one should get behind the wheel after having a drink. Personally, I will not even get behind the wheel here on the farm if I have had a drink. If everyone would do that, it would be great. But we know that is not going to happen. Shame.

When they repeatedly drive drunk, why wait until they kill someone. Fuck them, lock'um up. It's a two fold purpose. First it's the ONLY way to keep a habitual offender from repeat offending... and a 10 year sentence for a 3rd DWI WILL SEND A MESSAGE TO THE SHEEP... you best call a taxi or walk.

I realize Deckard would cry because he probably considers drunk driving, generally, a "non violent" offense, like his beloved drug possessions... but I'm willing to bet Eugene Stoner has no problem with the concept.

"First it's the ONLY way to keep a habitual offender from repeat offending"

By "offending" you mean simply driving drunk. And by "drunk" you mean exceeding some arbitrary, generalized, politically-motivated BAC standard.

Sure. Let's create some stupid standard, set up a police roadblock, and jail everyone who exceeds that standard for 10 years.

That sends a message, all right.

Well GI, that would depend on what your definition of "the concept" is.

Boys, Let me make this simple. I have no problem whatsoever with locking up drunk drivers! They are a danger to the public, and even themselves. I and my wife & children travel on the same roads.

Lock them up, heavy fine. I do not want to hear the crap about their job, etc. 2nd Offense, prison, forfeit car, etc. Third offense, exile to deserted island for life. Also use the island for all with a Death Sentence, & Life Prison sentence. Save the taxpayers money. Screw the lawyers!

Simple / Clear enough?

"I and my wife & children travel on the same roads."

There are old people on the road also who can't see too well, hear too well, have slow reaction times and are sometimes confused.

How about teens -- statistically horrible drivers?

There are people who talk on cellphones, listen to the radio, have distracting infants in the car, and eat fast food while driving?

How about all the unsafe vehicles out there with bald tires, no shocks, barely functioning brakes and even bad wipers?

Not all accidents are caused by "drunk" drivers. Where does someone like you draw the line when it comes to road safety?

Originally I was responding to the original OP discussing drunk drivers. Now you want to expanding the discussion to a number of other factors. LOL

Lets just say I am for operating vehicles "safely" on the highways, by EVERYBODY!

I am against people driving with bald tires, while texting, reading books, sleeping, and even against driving while eating doughnuts, LOL!

Well, you're definition of "safely" excludes those who might cause an accident. I was simply asking where you draw the line.

You sound confused by that question. Probably because you can't answer it without sounding hypocritical.

"I am against people driving with bald tires, while texting, reading books, sleeping, and even against driving while eating doughnuts, LOL!"

They deserve 10 years in jail also for something they might do?

" You sound confused by that question. Probably because you can't answer it without sounding hypocritical. "

What the hell do you want from me dip wad, A complete four volume set of issues I am against? You are the one that is confused.

I'm on board.... and I agree.

As far as Whites claim of "your kind".... he's showing his libtard, sympathetic side along with a touch of Deckard paranoia... suggesting that "your kind" would start imprisoning "old" drivers for being dangerous. I'll suggest that "old" drivers, driving sober but driving while old (DWO)... and are no longer safe, have their license pulled by a review board. Big difference than breaking the law, repeatedly, driving drunk.

It was, and it wasn't. She was flawlessly beautiful but strong as a mule. When I mounted her, she bucked and sent me two feet in the air.
