Veterans' Group: Trump Strong Supporter of US Military

Saturday, 18 Jul 2015 10:49 PM

Veterans for a Strong America, an Iraq and Afghanistan veterans organization dedicated to mobilizing Americans to communicate the importance of a robust national defense, issued the following statement Saturday in support of presidential candidate Donald Trump:

“Donald Trump was recently extremely well received in Arizona while discussing national security and border security. Senator John McCain’s reaction to Mr. Trump’s success in Arizona is instructive in that it belies a concern the Senator clearly has about how his stance on issues like immigration are perceived by his constituents.

The feuding between Mr. Trump and Senator McCain has nothing to do with Mr. Trump’s high regard for the military or veterans as a whole. Mr. Trump is supporter of the U.S. military and of America's veterans. It is well known that when Mr. Trump is attacked by a detractor, he swings back. As veterans, we do not hide behind military service to deflect criticism, and when Senator McCain attacked, Mr. Trump hit back. Editor's Note: Can Trump Make America Great Again? Vote Now. We are glad that Mr. Trump has clarified his remarks to acknowledge that Senator McCain is a war hero. But, Senator McCain is also a politician and what Donald Trump has tapped into is that people just don’t trust politicians and the slow pace the Congress is moving in addressing critical issues like border security, veteran’s issues and military funding. Donald Trump has a history of calling out people and groups that don’t deliver results. There are clearly problems that are being identified by Donald Trump, that are not being adequately addressed by the political leadership in Congress and the Administration today.

Phraseology aside, what the American people are really concerned about is how 250,000 veterans – who are also heroes – were put onto a VA death list, why 40,000 active troops are going to receive pink slips over the next four years and why border security is not addressed even as our porous border results in more financial strain on our country and southern border states' budgets."

As long as we don't call POW's heroes - which they are not. It is shameful to be captured. But because of the cry baby Vietnam vets we have to praise them or something like that. There was not even a medal for being a POW until recently.

You obviously don't know WTF you are talking about. Nor have you ever been in combat.

There was a POW medal given in WW-2. Maybe even in wars prior to that, but I don't know that to be a fact.

What I do know is that you are so ignorant of the subject that you think all medals are awarded for courage. Most aren't. They are awarded to show where you have been, sometimes what you have done,to recognize that you did an excellent job at whatever it was you were doing, etc, etc, etc.

Some, like the CMB and CIB are awarded to people who have actually been in personal combat, like infantrymen and combat medics. They are related to courage under fire buy not what most people would call heroism medals.

The Prisoner of War Medal is a military award of the United States armed forces which was authorized by Congress and signed into law by President Ronald Reagan on 8 November 1985.

That is ONE specific medal.

I am sure there wes one for survivors of the Battan Death March,as well as for POW's held in Europe and the ones that were worked as slave laborers in Japan.

Survivors of one of the 5 Confederate prisons during the Civil War were awarded one of these...

Thanks! I didn't know that, but it's no real surprise. POW's lived under horrendous conditions during the War of Northern Aggression, and deserved recognition.

I was kinda surprised that I couldn't easily find a place/page where they listed all of the medals/ribbons that could be awarded to both sides. Most of what I found kept referring to a Campaign ribbon and the Medal(s) of Honor, of which there were 2 back in those days one for the Army and one for the Navy.

I don't think medals for valor were a formal part of the military back then. When the Medal of Honor first came out,it was actually given to a drummer boy to get him to re-enlist. The MoH didn't become a big deal valor award until WW-1.

It has now devolved to a Affirmative Action award in most cases.
