Title: Oh my: Ted Cruz’s book now at No. 7 on NYT bestseller list [NYSlimes humiliated]

Ted Cruz’s book did not make the New York Times bestseller list in its first week. The New York Times claimed the book, which would have been No. 3 based on straight sales numbers, was barred from the list for “strategic bulk sales.”

The New York Times informed HarperCollins this week that it will not include Ted Cruz’s new biography on its forthcoming bestsellers list, despite the fact that the book has sold more copies in its first week than all but two of the Times’ bestselling titles, the On Media blog has learned.

Cruz’s “A Time For Truth,” published on June 30, sold 11,854 copies in its first week, according to Nielsen Bookscan’s hardcover sale numbers. That’s more than 18 of the 20 titles that will appear on the bestseller list for the week ending July 4. Aziz Ansari’s “Modern Romance,” which is #2 on the list, sold fewer than 10,000 copies. Ann Coulter’s “Adios America,” at #11, sold just over half as many copies.

Harper Collins said, nope, no bulk sales here:

“HarperCollins Publishers has investigated the sales pattern for Ted Cruz’s book A TIME FOR TRUTH and has found no evidence of bulk orders or sales through any retailer or organization” the publisher said in a statement. They note that The Wall Street Journal, Barnes and Noble, and Nielsen all listed Cruz’s book as a bestseller, and all three organizations omit bulk sales.

Barnes & Noble: Nope, no evidence of bulk sales.

Yet another publishing industry giant has reviewed its sales data for Republican presidential candidate Ted Cruz‘s new book “A Time for Truth” and found no evidence of bulk sales.

Cruz is in the midst of a heated feud with The New York Times over the paper’s refusal to add his book to their bestsellers list. The Times argued that after examining sales data, they had concluded that the “overwhelming preponderance of the evidence” pointed towards bulk purchases, disqualifying Cruz from the list.

Amazon: Nope, no bulk sales.

On Sunday, an Amazon spokesperson told the On Media blog that the company’s sales data showed no evidence of unusual bulk purchase activity for the Texas senator’s memoir, casting further doubt on the Times’ claim that the book — “A Time for Truth” — had been omitted from its list because sales had been driven by “strategic bulk purchases.”

“As of yesterday, ‘A Time for Truth’ was the number 13 best-selling book, and there is no evidence of unusual bulk purchase activity in our sales data,” Sarah Gelman, Amazon’s director of press relations, said in an email.

NYT: Um, well, fine. He can be on the bestseller list.

Times spokesperson Eileen Murphy said that the newspaper made no changes to its selection process, and so the fact that Cruz’s book is being included now suggests a rise in individual purchases, spurred by his public battle with the paper.

“This week’s NYT best seller list was arrived at using the same process as last week’s – and the week before that,” Murphy wrote. “That process involves a careful analysis of data, and is not influenced in any way by the content of a book, or by pressure from publishers or book sellers.”

Both HarperCollins, the book’s publisher, and Amazon, the largest Internet retailer in the country, said last week that they had found “no evidence” that bulk purchases drove the book’s sales numbers. On Friday, Cruz campaign spokesperson Rick Tyler accused the Times of “obvious partisan bias,” and called on the paper to reveal its methodology or else publicly apologize.

The Times has resolutely stood by its claim, and has refused to reveal its methodology on the grounds that doing so might threaten the integrity of the process.

Sure, Kate. The only thing that doesn’t make this an open-and-shut left-wing conspiracy is my sneaking suspicion that there must be a right-wing mole over there to have started a fight so gigantic and demonstrably biased between the NYT and Ted Cruz. Talk about a fundraising and bookselling boon!

The Cruz campaign has called for the NYT public editor to examine how it is that a book with 11K+ in a week of sales with no evidence of bulk sales missed the list the first week. I look forward to the answer.

Mary, Mary, Mary do you really think you're going to get an answer much less a straight one??

I'm not a Cruz fan generally but this arrogance by NYT followed by their comeuppance from the other book industry heavyweights was funny to me.

Seems quiet on these Cruz threads lately. Wasn't it just months back that we had a forum half-full of diehard Cruz supporters? It seems they are fickle and have abandoned their love affair with Cruz to have a fling with Donald Trump.

You could just decide that he's really from Canada. Just because he signed away his Canadian citizenship means nothing.

I'm just trying to help out...

Cruz really hasn't said a whole lot lately and I don't think he will until he see's which way the winds are blowing with the voters. I.E. how they are responding to Trumps rhetoric...

Well, he has said hi to Trump during a meeting they had at Trump Tower.

They met for an hour. They have been noticed being very chummy in private and very complimentary to each other in public several times.

It's a little odd for the two bulls in the GOP's china shop to have a little palaver on their way to the first televised debate.

I for one am savoring Donald Trump calling out and exposing the uni-party Dems and Establishment Republicans. Why aren't you? A serious blood-letting of GOPe lies and lying candidates is necessary.

Cruz hasn't been abandoned at all; Seems even he is enjoying the GOPe carnage, as are Cruz supporters.

Seems REAL quiet on the 'Jeb-Perry-Christie Republican Punching-Bag/Patsy-For-President' threads. Either here or at FR.

Yup. Good way to assess it. Love the strategy. Trump's rhetoric is hitting the sweet spot for most of America (to the absolute shock and dismay of the media and uni-Party elites.) And he's NOT backing down. Yet. He's still...ON THE OFFENSIVE. Way to go, Trump!

Trump is serving as the lightning rod for emotional red meat issues that REALLY affect America...as Cruz gauges the reaction of the electorate spectrum of surrender monkey Republicans, PO'd conservatives, libertarians, independents, and Dems sick-of-Dems. He may then swoop in and scoop up those voters if Trump begins taking on too much artillery from the uni-party Battleships and Carrier force. Of course Trump's role might just be the role as a stalking horse -- in which case the joke is on the uni-Party establishment whores of both parties.

In taking a page from the GOPe's book of running stalking horses, Cruz might not seem so bombastic compared to Trump....and clean up afterward with his straight-talk. Trump becomes a folk hero either way and a patriot exposing and shaking up the usual cast and script of DC Kabuki Theater. I hope the GOPe is obliterated.

I know. How dare the "dignified" air of distinguished Pubbies like Jeb, Graham, Perry, and rest of the GOPe Clown Car be disturbed by hooligans like Trump and Cruz.

How dare the cast of usual idiots and patsies submitted by the the GOPe be ridiculed for (ONCE AGAIN) tossing their Mardi Gras beads to naive Republican voters, selling their same old cliched platitudes and pandering to the Left, abandoning their base, and kissing the arse and pinkie rings of their "good friends on the other side of the aisle"!

Sounds like they are cooking up a little scheme between themselves.

Trump stands to make more money "having the ear of a president" rather than being the president.

I'm curious as to how much he's going to say, will it be about "ALL" that is tearing down America or just the things that affect him the most... Hmmmmm...

I understand a natural cynicism about Trump. I get it. But at this point in time to me there's only Trump and Cruz criticizing and attacking the status quo and tough issues with any sense of focus, sincerity and love for this country.

Frankly, I don't care if Trump becomes a Gazillionaire if he becomes President -- just as long as the GOPe or Dems are exposed as globalist uni-party trash and do NOT continue this Conga-line and THE FIX.

I think it's great. Wish they trusted a couple of others to oppose the GOPe's scheming weasels. What Trump and Cruz bring to the table is faaaar preferable to the scheming GOPe conga-line of reptilian sock-puppets, ringers, and uni-Party traitors.

Respectfully, I don't get the vibe that Trump is purely about money.

He's risking much to do what he's doing, alienating and rattling the cage of establishment movers and shakers of BOTH parties. How much richer can he be? Heck, all he had to do was sit back, contribute to the usual uni-Party weasels and STILL make billions.WITHOUT saying a word and taking grief.

The man has a set of balls we haven't seen in a looong time.

I've thought the same. Then I realize that that would mean The Donald is attempting something like a hostile takeover of the White House. Even he isn't quite that brash, I think. And playing kingmaker would be his focus, just angling for who (R's or D's) would give him the better deal to run or not run or to run as an independent like Perot.
