This is an astonishing report from the Huffington Post. According to leaked slides from a Veterans Affairs whistleblower, 238,657 of 847,822 veterans whose enrollments were pending with the VA were “likely deceased.” More than 28% of pending VA health applicants showed up in external databases (external to the VA, that is) as deceased before the VA completed their enrollments. A VA spokesman responded to the report by explaining that some of these now-deceased applicants probably obtained alternative healthcare through Medicare, Medicaid, Tricare, or private insurance. That’s no excuse, the whistleblower told Huffington Post: Poor bookkeeping in government? Knock me over with a feather. Oh, and just for funsies, the VA says it may start closing hospitals and furloughing employees to help close a $2.5 billion funding gap. Congresscritters are not pleased at the late disclosure since the funds run out September 30 and Congress is about to go on break until September 6. Rep. Jeff Miller, R-Fla., chairman of the House Veterans Affairs Committee, said he was troubled at “VA’s continued lack of transparency and refusal to be forthright with Congress,” but said, “veterans must not be penalized for VA’s ongoing mismanagement.” September is going to be a hellish month for Congress. Congress has to pass the 12 annual spending bills (or pass a continuing resolution, kicking the can down the road instead), plus deal with expiring Children’s Health Insurance Program and school lunch programs. And there’s this little thing going on with Iran that will also have a mid-September deadline. As for some vets having other insurance, [Scott Davis] said it is “immaterial and a farce” to suggest that means VA shouldn’t be providing vets with the health care they earned.
“VA wants you to believe, by virtue of people being able to get health care elsewhere, it’s not a big deal. But VA is turning away tens of thousands of veterans eligible for health care,” he said. “VA is making it cumbersome, and then saying, ‘See? They didn’t want it anyway.'”
At a minimum, the high number of dead people on the pending list indicates a poor bookkeeping process that overstates the number of living applicants — a number that should be closer to 610,000.Lawmakers from both parties faulted the VA for failing to announce the impending shortfall before last month. Lawmakers also criticized the agency for failing to anticipate or fix budget problems, including a failed VA hospital project in Denver that is more than $1 billion over budget.

So it seems. And somehow that isn't news to the big libmedia outlets. But they have new constituencies to pander to. The gays, the illegals, the transgenderies, etc. So screw the vets, screw the old people and destitute, screw the Christians, etc.
About 2 years ago my Dad chose to stop getting So he got two more years (of life) - for whatever reason. I may find out on the next plain of existence. He was 89 when he died. 3 1/2 months short of 90.

A VA Doctor put me on an increased dosage of Atenerol for my heart. Not long afterwards, I took a nose dive in a store. The medical opinion is that the increased dosage caused the dive. Since I got out of the hospital several weeks ao, I've been fine on a quarter of the dosage.
I believe you must mean atenolol. Whenever you are prescribed a medication it is best to get on the internet and read all the potential side effects and food/drug interactions. As we age some become more pronounced. Good luck. http://www.drugs.com/food-interactions/atenolol.html

Many of the medical professionals are in training. That is certainly true for the VA. Been there, seen that. I'm not saying all of them are that way. There are good professionals there. One, a PA, got me diagnosed with the beginning stage of Esophageal Cancer. Not many people are diagnosed with Stage One of Esophageal Cancer. It's gone now. May the Lord be praised.

Loads of red tape to get most VA care. Just getting someone on the line to make an appointment is challenging. Then when you do, getting someone who knows how the system works is the next challenge. Keep taking your meds CW. But every now and then get second opinions on what and how much to take. T2 diabetes is controllable but if you let the levels get too high then your organs will be damaged and worse things will happen like heart attack, kidney failure etc.

No they don't. I had some appointments with the VA after my retirement. Quite a challenge for them to keep those appointments. The VA is fine for those who are retirement age in their 60s or over or unemployed disabled veterans. Most of us who go through the 'mandatory' initial appointments end up using other healthcare plans. If a veteran lives near a military installation and he or she is military retired, they are better off with the retirement health care plan offered by DoD. 60 years! He started at age 15, quit at age 75.
After the quad bypass at 75 he could not physically
smoke any longer - the coughing was too painful.
He ate healthfully and took a lot of vitamins and
nutritional supplements - that's where I credit his
longevity. That and his faith in God and upbeat
attitude. I'd bet that if he hadn't smoked, he'd
probably still be here. But then, who knows?

I have epilepsy because I had a seizure once - after
suffering a head injury) increased the dosage of an
anti-seizure medication - and I started getting dizzy
and yes - fell - putting a nice hole in the wallboard
in the bedroom.
That solved the dizzyness problem.
Yes, I informed my doctor that I had done this,
and I no longer follow her advice (blindly) unless
I have a real problem to solve.
why the heck should I keep changing them around all
of the time? I just stick with what works instead
of being a guinea pig to satisfy my doctor's curiosity.

Trust me on that one. I was stuck in a wheelchair
for 22 months - so I'm familiar with that deal.

And I will get a second opinion when doctor #1 changes
my meds and soon thereafter I get dizzy and delerious and
start wandering around the house bashing into walls
and such. A pretty good sign that something may be wrong...
