Title: Ventura: Will he or won’t he?

To hear Jesse Ventura tell it, he’s either out to become president or an expatriate.

In the opening to his fourth book, due out April 1, the former wrestler and governor of Minnesota writes: “As I begin to write this book, I’m facing probably the most monumental decision of my 56 years on this planet. Will I run for president of the United States, as an independent, in 2008? Or will I stay as far away from the fray as possible, in a place with no electricity, on a remote beach in Mexico?” AP

Throughout the book, called “Don’t Start the Revolution Without Me!,” Ventura seems to go back and forth on the question, pro and con:

Pro: “My outrage knows few bounds. … I can’t live with this apathy. I can’t tell myself it’s not happening.”

Con: “Psychologically, I need to break away from the United States. I also felt it was time in my life to go on an adventure. … And I found that, even in the 21st century, you can still be something of a Kit Carson,” the renowned 19th-century frontiersman.

Pro: He details a conversation he had in Mexico with Robert F. Kennedy Jr. about running together on an independent, third-party ticket.

Con: His wife, Terry, says she refuses to be first lady of anything again.

Pro: WWE Wrestling Chairman Vince McMahon told Ventura he’d back his bid “100 percent, with everything I’ve got.”

Con: The epilogue of the book imagines eight months of 2008 headlines, as Ventura decides to run on a “WWE independent ticket.” Ventura envisions “shoving McMahon off to the side” and announcing his candidacy before 70,000 fans at the 24th annual WrestleMania. Which must mean he can’t be serious.

I doubt if politics during the last days of Rome were this bad.

BTW, it's 245 AD.

I assume that is the year Rome fell. Or at least near its fall.

I for one would pick Ventura over McCain, Hillary or Obama.

I certainly don't agree with Ventura across the board or anything.

I remember when he was governor, even thought I live in Ohio, getting pissed off at some things he did. Having said that I still think he would be better than what the choices are right now. Hopefully someone else will step forward that is even better.

What happened to Paul,I thought he was staying in it until the end. What chance does an independant have anyways, whats next Hulkamania vs Obama,Clinton, and MCcain in a steel cage?

Ron Paul is "staying" in the race until the end. At least that is word on the wires. But mathematically he can't win it. Unless a miracle happened and the pledged delegates voted for Ron Paul instead of who they were pledged to. I don't see that happening. Sadly.

I wish Ron Paul would run third party win or lose. At least then I and others could vote for something we truly believe in.

What is Venturas position on this War of terror anyways?

If he is for it he would never get my vote.

I would like to see that steel cage match you talked about. I would like it to be a fight to the death. But Ventura does have governing experience too as i'm sure you know.

Rome fell in 454 AD. The equivalent Roman year for Amerika now is approx. 245.

Still have a ways to go but excellerating fast and falling faster than Rome.

Think dog-years.

Yes Mud there will still be a place called America. But what kind of America will it be. It is already vastly different from what I grew up in. Will it be a constitutional republic, because it isn't right now.

Will there be a bill of rights that still has meaning?

Will it be spanish or english speaking?
