It's funny how many times Senator Rand Paul finds himself running away when the topic of immigration reform pops up. Rep. Steve King, one of the most xenophobic Republicans in Congress, recently defended Donald Trump's anti- Mexican rants on CNN.
“I’d say in Donald Trump’s defense, someone’s doing that to these kids that are being raped and abused,” King continued. “And, when they’re coming across Mexico, it’s a reasonable assumption to conclude the people doing that are Mexicans.”
So when Rand Paul was having lunch with Rep. Steve King and an Iowan voter asked if he agreed with Donald Trump and Rep. King on the Mexican rapists remark, Paul did the one thing he's known for - he ran.
As Digby says:
Rand Paul doesn't know how to turn Mexican bashing and immigration into a states' rights issue so he runs away from it. He'd rather not talk about it because libertarianism doesn't have an answer and the GOP demands one.
And as many have observed:
This is a near remake of the tape where the brave Rand Paul flees a dispute between King and actual immigrants like King has suddenly turned into a peanut and Rand Paul suddenly remembered he was allergic to them. He's not a fan of giving his opinion on whether undocumented immigrants are or are not subhuman monsters. Perhaps he ought to stop hanging out with people who opine those things?
But you have to admit this running away isn't what leadership is.
I think if anyone knows how detrimental speaking your mind is, is Ron Paul's son, Rand.
He needs to be smart, and tread lightly with touchy social issues because for Rand to win, he must draw support other areas then the religious right and libertarian base. He's worthless towards change until he's in a position to create change.
Watch how being outspoken works for Trump.

I agree, and I will support trump if he's the most viable candidate to put their foot up SHITlary's fat ass next November.
I just don't think he'll keep his poll numbers. I'm thinking he will implode. I think if Rand plays his cards right, and he bites his tongue now, he'll lead the polls this time next year.
