My company, like many others, offers the same benefits to same sex domestic partners as it does to opposite sex spouses.

With the recent supreme court ruling on same sex marriage, we should all call on all of these companies to end domestic partner benefits or offer the same to hetero couples as well. If pushed, think most companies would offer benefits only to married couples of the same or opposite sex.

If they want the benefits, make them get married. In a lot of cases, I think we'll find out that they aren't such a dedicated couple as just freeloading off the system.

Poster Comment:

It is discrimination to offer these benefits to some stupid queer and not people who aren't sexually confused.

No, what the companies will do is fire the people pushing for this and replace them.

Then they would be sued. It is discrimination.

Then they would be sued. It is discrimination.

And the courts would slap them down. It is discrimination to achieve the result desired by the courts, and therefore the courts will uphold it, and will slap down any attempts to use the justice system to overturn their will. They control the justice system and the law is what they want it to be. The tables cannot be turned on them, because they are the judges, whatever they say is the law, they know it, and they use their power to enforce their will.

The only way to change THAT is the fundamentally alter the American constitutional structure as it is commonly understood, and the people have no stomach for that.

The gays won this, and the courts will be as activist in smashing down and smothering out challenges to them as the courts were in crushing out every avenue of resistance to racial desegregation.

If you look at what happened to those who resisted desegregation, you see the template: the full power of the state has come down on one side, and the other side has no recourse and will lose.

In the 1960s, it was the racial segregationalists versus the racial equal rights activists. The segregationists lost every battle. They were smashed in court every time. They were smashed by laws and regulations. And they were smashed in private employment, to the point that they were marginalized and had to hide who and what they were in order to maintain employment. They could not transmit their values to their children or the state would intervene. And in fact hard-core racism has largely died in America on account of it. It was torn up by the roots and made to die.

Had there been no Civil War, there might have been armed civil resistance to desegregation, but their was a Civil War, everybody remembers is, and the desegregationist forces were not subtle: they sent in heavy army forces to make sure that children were escorted, with helmeted soldiers in the background, through the schoolhouse doors. Rebel to stop it and refight the Civil War, and that would just give the army the EXCUSE to REALLY reduce the segregationist forces by slaughtering them as rebels...again.

There was nothing subtle about it. It was naked, in-your-face power, asserted in a way precisely to BE offensive to the defeated segregationists, so as to flush them out and be able to kill or destroy them. There was massive infiltration of racist organizations by the FBI...and there still is.

That cause was lost.

The gay equality cause is the replacement cause. People are not as willing to fight about it as they were to fight about black equality, and the authorities have the experience of having utterly crushed the resistance to desegregation, and have that playbook.

This society is secular, not Christian, and thanks to 401(c)(3) tax exempt status, the organized Churches are not going to present organized opposition.

The more traditional ones may move to the "French Model", of simply requiring people who want civil marriage to go to City Hall and marry, with the religious ceremony an option for the religious, but not the actual legal marriage.

That's the answer.

And the truth is that today, first in Europe, but widely growing here, we're entering a post-marriage age, where women spread their legs so routinely that there is really no reason to marry them at all except to procreate, and no pressing reason (for males) to get on with that.

Over time, the advantage will come to lie with the Christians who do things the traditional way, for reasons that are not immediately obvious (the way that the blessings of God work out in a life lived having a great deal to do with it). And in Europe, where Christianity has essentially evaporated, it will come to lie with the Muslims for the same reason.

For now, we are in a period where the gays are going to establish their full equality and the Churches are going to continue to decline, because they're not really organized on the principles of Christ and sort of get in the way of doing it really right.

The society as a whole has jettisoned its Christian pilots and much of the rules that came out of Christianity. Europe is 20 or 30 years further down the path. We need only look at Europe to see what the proximate future looks like.

But there are different social pressures at work here than there. Here, we're becoming Latin America, and the Latinos are assimilating into secularism. Over there, they're becoming more and more Muslim, and the Muslims are remaining distinctly religious.

If Christianity refuses to reform itself to actually be CHRISTIAN (as opposed to TRADITIONAL, which is not actually what Christ said), then the future of Europe is Islam, and eventually Islam will move into the religious vacuum in America too.

What is not going to be able to be defended is traditionalism and a sense of cultural superiority. We live in a global world, and there's always something better in some sense somewhere else. So holding onto the idea that "We're the best in everything" starts to look North Korean - and can only be maintained by force if it already exists. It can't be established here in America, where the people let Detroit die and built up Japan because Japanese cars were better, and to hell with the interests of the USA and American workers when I'm spending MY money: MY interests in having a good car trump national interest.

That's America and Ameriacns, and maybe that's healthy too in some ways. In any event, it's inevitable. Nationalism in America hit a peak with 9-11, but the catastrophic handling of the wars by Bush, and then Obama, means that the idea that we can "fix" things by force has receded for a second generation in a row (Vietnam was the first).

We're never going back to what was before. No consensus can be found on the American Right. This happened in Europe first, so we can see how the cookie is going to crumble.

Think about how much Americans on the Right hate each other right here on this little website, just for differing opinions on some aspect that another considers orthodox. The front cannot be held. The alliance has fallen apart. The different pieces of the old alliance will not cooperate with each other. Christian sects despise each other. Some like the Jews better than they like their fellow Christians (but the Jews themselves almost uniformly most despise the Christians who are most gung-ho about Israel, and actively work to suppress them).

We're thrown back upon ourselves, and "ourselves" are not in great shape. Aging. Fattening physically while thinning out economically and feeling more and more precarious. Many of our ideals were wrong all along and self- defeating, but we were never before forced to come face-to-face with our own illogic. Now we are. It can he a healthy thing, if we rise to the challenge.

Example: For me, I never cared about gay rights before, and I don't care now. If men want to bugger men, it's no skin off my nose. I don't care. I'm not going to start. Are they going to get marital benefits for that? I guess so. I don't like that, because it's money flowing out. But then, we have so much money flowing out to corrupt government contracts and losing endless wars that the amount we're going to also waste on gay marriage benefits is a comparative pittance. I'll stay focused on the need to END THE WARS and BRING ALL US FORCES HOME and END THE EMPIRE, because that is the SINGLE GREATEST USELESS EXPENSE that has hammered us over the past 60 years.

As a culture we don't seem inclined to learn that lesson until we're bankrupt and CAN'T afford the adventures, like Spain of old.

THAT is really the fight that is worth fighting, because it's the only place in our budget where we can actually make cuts of sufficient size to reverse our trend towards Greek oblivion. But Americans don't see it, so I guess we go over the cliff. Oh well. Spain and France and England and the Russians and Japanese and Germans and Italians all survived the loss of Empire and the permanent reduction of their prestige. We will too. Ain't nothing but a thing, and it's a thing that isn't even tangible, so who cares. And for those who do care, WHY care?

Circling back to gay marriage, society has moved, the courts have spoken, as they did on segregation, and anybody who tries to harness the courts to resist the decision will just get chewed up and spat out.

The gays won, and I don't care. I'm not going to go out and stick my dick up a guy's butt, and nobody's going to stick his dick up mine, so why should I care what they do? I don't, in fact, care at all. So if somebody thinks I should, he can go boil his head. I didn't care when it was illegal, and I don't care now. God cares, and God will take care of that. I'm not God, so I'll leave all that judgment to him. As for me, I ignored the gays before, and I'll continue to not care now that they can go get a pretty sticker.

It's sort of like the difference between living with a woman for years and then finally marrying her formally. What is the difference? It's theoretical. Eventually in retirement it will make a difference. But right now, it makes none. Now the society says the gays are legally married? Well, Scripture says that the man who fucks a virgin has married her in the eyes of God. That's never been our law, but it's still on he books (in the Torah) as God's law. So in fact most Christians are ALREADY polygamous in the eyes of God, and don't even know it.

Most women don't marry their first, and are adulteresses and don't know it. And most men don't marry every virgin they screw, but they do marry, so they're polygamists and don't know it.

But they'll sure get exercised if you tell them that. Because they think that tradition trumps what is written.

So many people operate under such strange and false assumptions that it's not worth a fight to try to change the world. We're not given the power to do so.

The best we can do is stick to our own knitting, cultivate our own gardens, and tell the Truth. That's the one REAL social service we can perform that CAN influence things. We are powerless, but we can still tell the Truth.

When I do that among conservatives, they get mad at me. So do liberals. For different reasons. What else can one do.

Truth is, the gay marriage advocates won, and they're not going to be reversed. And the truth is, also, that it doesn't matter and none of us should CARE. We need to stick to our own knitting and focus on the garden WE have been given.

And maybe have a thought for our wives out there, if we've ever slept with virgins. We're still married to them, by God's rules, which don't change.
