Title: Vivint Security door-to-door sales people ignoring 'no soliciting' signs

DOUGLAS COUNTY, Colo. - Some residents in Highlands Ranch say aggressive door-to-door sales people are taking their tactics too far.

The complaints involve salesmen claiming to be with Vivint Security, a home security monitoring company based out of Utah.

CALL7 Investigator Theresa Marchetta said they came to her door four times, and she learned they don't even have an office in Colorado.

Marchetta said the company has seasonal sales workers door-knocking in Douglas County, blatantly ignoring homeowner's wishes.

Bryan Peterson is a security professional who lives in the Westridge Glen neighborhood, and he said the tactics Vivint sales people are using, such as ignoring no soliciting signs and lingering on private property, are over the top.

"The guy still made three trips past my house even though I told him I wasn't interested," said Peterson. "Trying to defeat people's security and determine what their systems are made of is deceptive and prying -- a really a pushy tactic."

All solicitors in Douglas County need a permit through the sheriff's office, but deputies said they don't have anything for Vivint Security.

CALL7 learned on Tuesday that's because the company used the name Arm Marketing to buy the soliciting permits -- 51 of them.

Vivint's spokesperson told 7NEWS that all their representatives will have a badge and photo ID.

Violating the provisions of the county soliciting permit is a Class 2 petty offense.

The Sheriff's Office said they've gotten some calls, but so far, no one has filed a formal complaint.

Whether these overly aggressive peddlers come around door-to-door, or ignore the "do not call" telephone restrictions, they ALL need to be tossed in jail. I don't want any of them ba$tards canvassing my neighborhood asking about who has what kind of home security system... as if I'm gonna tell that information to some goddam stranger who comes walking up to my door trying to sell me something...

Don't call me, I'll call YOU if I want a home security system...
otherwise, I'll get a doberman to sic on you and chomp on your damn gonads.

It sounds like Vivent just hired some rent-a-salesman types to shield themselves from any legal consequences of their trespassing and harassment to make unwelcome sales pitches.

It's Vivent that should be sued. The local salesmen aren't the main problem, the company that hired them is.

I'm in sales, and when businesses post "No Soliciting" I go right on in. Like most sales professionals, I interpret the sign to mean "do not solicit our patrons or employees".

If they post "No Salesmen" or "No Salesmen Without An Appointment", different story. My product can save the average company thousands of real dollars. If they don't even want to hear about it, it's their loss.

Fine. But that clearly would not apply to private homes which is what this article is about.

Great attitude to have, working sales... But, if your statement were 100% factual, your company would be the only company putting out your product... or do other companies put a product out that will save a company money as well?

Hence, Competition.... and the unfortunate need for pesky, irritating SALESPERSONS.

Stay away from my front door, Mr. White... you have very limited constitutional rights on my property. lol

Yes they hire young college age kids to go door to door. Had one pest from Vivent who kept coming to the door. Told him I already had a home security system but of course Vivent 'was so much better.'

He already delayed me from getting to a baseball practice so told him 'no thanks.' He came back twice when he thought I was not home and my wife was home. So confronted him and told him to stop coming by. When I first moved into the area there was a carpet cleaning company which was a front for burglars. They would come by multiple times even after people saying no to stake out patterns of life so they could rob homes.

So I told him if he came by again I would report him and his lackies as staking out the neighborhood. Guess he didn't want the heat and stopped coming by.

DISH network has these same peach fuzzstache kids coming by trying to sell their awful services. But that kid was smart, knew I was a lost cause for door to door sales and left me with some info and his card.

How do you deal with those Mormons/LDS on their missions? I had two stop by last week - I think I was cordial and politely said no thanks. They had on their name tags and shirt and tie. They were Elders - in their early twenties.

I am usually polite to the JWs and tell them I am a Christian and if they would like to discuss the Deity of Jesus Christ I am open to do so. They usually depart politely and leave a tract or two inviting me and my family to their church.

Mormons a different matter. They can get rude (for all their white tooth smiles) and pushy. When I see their little van come in the neighborhood I let my well trained dog out on my front lawn (not fenced in) and throw her the ball (Lab so she fetches well and returns the ball to my feet). They avoid my yard when I am on the front lawn with the dog. My neighbor told me that the last time the Mormons came by I had a baseball bat in my hand:)

She was probably right as I was hitting some grounders to sonny boy and the dog in the front yard. So now they just wave at me and smile with their little bike helmets on in slacks and white button down shirts and thin ties.

So get a Louisville slugger 32in or 33in bat and hit grounders to your dog (use a tennis ball so Fido's teeth don't get knocked out:)

Here's a good link to get one:

I'm thinking the next time Mormons come by I do as this man did:

I've been to the Louisville Slugger plant and museum. One of the great souvenirs you can purchase is the Louisville Slugger with the personalized name on it.

I gave one to Jim Robberson of FreeRepublic way back when and my boyhood friend who played baseball and softball in leagues when he was over 40. I know they appreciated them and likely never used them. Like a said, great souvenir or gift.

Good deal. If ever in that area I will have to make the visit.

They had a similar deal at one of the theme parks at Branson MO. They had a woodwork shop and made personalized bats. Had bats made for me and my sons. Great workmanship. They were even able to engrave a passable 1st Cav patch on my bat.

This seems to work as well:

You only have to hit balls on the front lawn and they go away:)

Sure it does. The sign should say "No Salesmen", not "No Solicitation".

I have been harassed by the telemarketers from a specific
company on a daily basis for over 5 years. I have
threatened, begged, pleaded - to no avail.

I am now in my final information gathering stages.
Because I am going to sue them. Seriously.
I simply want to be left alone. And nothing else has
worked. And I have tried everything. Short of violence -
which would be un-Christian and impractical.

Have you tried using DoNotCall.gov? It does stop most (but not all) telemarketers. Especially those who call over and over and over. They have to stop within 30 days by federal statute. They won't stop outfits who keep changing their names and operate from established call lists but it does stop most of them.

Yes.
It has not worked. Over a year.

Should I try the thing again? Ya think?
Actually it's stopped all but the peskiest ones...
A few just won't go away. Ever.

You can try contacting them to try to get them fined for it.

Chances are, it's some group that keeps going out of business under one name, keeping their phone lists, start up a new business and "sell" the old call lists to it, then start calling again. A boilerroom operation like that can go "out of business" and start up again every month as part of their business plan.

Scumbags.

Mind me asking which company?

Does your state have a 'no call' list you could add your number to?

Which company? Verizon.
I don't even want to get into relating the grief...

No call list? I just got back on it. The company list.
I've been on the so-called national 'no-call list'
for years.

But they are both probably useless anyway. (IMO)
