Title: Good Samaritan Prevents Burglary, So a Cop Killed His Beloved Family’s Dog, Who was on a LEASH!

police-shoot-dog-on-a-leash

Cleveland, MS — A good samaritan never thought that his attempts to prevent a burglary would end with the killing of their beloved family pet. However, that is exactly what happened to Tyler Muzzi and his family’s beautiful 18-month-old yellow lab.

On Friday, Tyler Muzzi noticed a suspicious man on their dead-end street snooping around his neighbors house. Muzzi then called the neighbor to alert him to the possible burglar.

The property owner in turn called the Cleveland police.

When police showed up, they found the suspect and placed him in the back of the patrol car. At this point, Muzzi heard two gunshots and thought that police may have been shooting at the suspect, but he was wrong.

Miller, the family’s 18-month-old yellow labrador retriever was playing in the Muzzi’s backyard during the police department’s investigation. The two shots Muzzi heard came from a cowardly officer and were fired into their beloved Miller.

Had this dog attacked the officer, or attempted to attack the officer, he may have been justified in shooting him. However, Miller was restrained on a leash! The leash was attached to a runner which was strung up between two trees in the Muzzi’s backyard.

The investigating officer told Muzzi that he had to shoot their dog because the animal “came after” him, and the officer had no choice.

Bethany Muzzi, Tyler’s wife explained how the incident unfolded and the subsequent disgusting and callous reaction by police afterward.

They came and got the guy, questioned Tyler and looked all around the house. Miller was in the backyard on a line the whole time and none of the other officers ever expressed a concern for him or Tyler could have put him in our pen. Tyler walked back inside and heard two gunshots. Thinking the guy got away he went outside and all of the officers were standing around casually and said, “hey man is that your dog”?

Apparently the investigator had arrived and walked back to the backyard without asking the other officers whether or not there was a dog. As he walked up Miller ran over to him (as any family pet would) and the investigator says he felt threatened enough to shoot him two times. So Tyler goes to our backyard to see everyone standing around Miller while he whimpers.

According to the local Cleveland paper, the officer involved in killing this family pet has been placed on paid vacation.

Tyler Muzzi tried to do the right thing, and for that, he says, he and his wife, Bethany, and their 5-year-old daughter, Emma, have lost a pet, a friend and a member of the family.

A facebook page has been set up for the family called Justice 4 Miller Muzzi and is quickly growing in size.

The fact that ‘puppycide‘ is even a word is a tragedy within itself.

crto_zoneid = window.innerWidth>=990?206278:206279;

According to an unofficial count done by an independent research group, Ozymandias Media, a dog is shot by law enforcement every 98 minutes.

Last year The Free Thought Project reported on a slew of tragic dog shootings, including one department in Buffalo, NY whose officers shot 92 dogs from Jan. 1, 2011 through Sept. 2014.

Buffalo is hardly an isolated incident either. In Southwest Florida, the News-Press discovered 111 instances of dog shootings among multiple agencies between 2009 and 2012, representing about 37 per year. According to the Chicago Tribune, Chicago Police shot approximately 90 dogs per year between 2008 and 2013.

Last year we broke the story of a SWAT team responding a dispute between two neighbors and then shooting a small dog as it ran away from them.

Some of these officers really do seem to get a thrill out of shooting animals.

In October of last year, we broke the story of the sickening video uploaded to facebook of a Cleburne Texas Police officer calling a small dog towards him and then shooting it.

Why are these cops killing so many dogs?

Is it because their lives in are in danger of ending every 98 minutes as they come across vicious animals in the line of duty? Some people in law enforcement actually expect us to believe that.

However, a video published to youtube by an Aussie Vlogger, who happens to be a postman, shows us that interacting with dogs, even menacing ones, can be done, without killing.

Watch below as friendly Australian postman, Cody Stavros, records some of the many dogs he encounters along his route. Some of these dogs are welcoming and nice, while others are ferocious. Either way, Stavros deals with them, without shooting them.

This is truly a very sad story, with a terrible ending.

This was a Yellow Lab, not typically a vicious breed. This clown should not have been issued a gun & a badge. If you need to call cops, before calling, better put your pets & kids inside first. This clown was not very observant like Officers should be, or he would have seen the dog was attached to a leash, it was restrained. This Barney is either just an incompetent dumbass, or he just gets a kick out of killing something, and the dog was handy. One day, karma will pay this idiot a visit.

According to the local Cleveland paper, the officer involved in killing this family pet has been placed on paid vacation.

The "officer" is nothing but a vicious bullying crank and should be be put on vacation for five years without parole in the state pen.

There is no mention of a video in this TFTP article.

The Jackson Clarion Ledge reported “the Muzzis were shown videos of the incident as it happened.”

The dog was barking at the officer before the shots were fired.

The dog was barking at the officer before the shots were fired.

Oh - the dog was barking?

Good grief man, that's what dogs do.

Miller, the family’s 18-month-old yellow labrador retriever was playing in the Muzzi’s backyard during the police department’s investigation. The two shots Muzzi heard came from a cowardly officer and were fired into their beloved Miller.

I guess no one is surprised at your defense of this cowardly badged thug's actions.

What a pathetic little cop worshiper you are.

Your authority fetish is sickening.

That’s interesting.

How did you make this determination?

Was it by viewing the “videos of the incident as it happened” that the Muzzis were shown?”

Or was it by only reading what the author “told you happened” in this article?

I have not defended any action, because I don’t know what happened and neither do you.

Have you viewed the “videos of the incident as it happened?” The videos that the Muzzis were shown….to determine what actually happened?”

Or, are you simply taking as the Gospel everything the author “told you happened” in this article?

I guess no one will be surprised when you show your ignorance led you to the latter.

Your stupidity is astounding.

This is truly a very sad story, with a terrible ending. This was a Yellow Lab, not typically a vicious breed.

That’s right, this is most definitely a very sad story with a terrible ending and the Yellow Lab is not typically a vicious breed.

However, dog aggression is a common dog behavior and can be seen in all breeds of dogs. All Dogs came from their cousins the gray wolf. Domesticated dogs never truly get away from their heritage. Example: dogs that bite owners for trying to take a bone, or showing dominance of territory. Even dogs that have been family pets for years still can be unpredictable.

This is a golden retriever-Labrador mix named Lucky:

Lucy mauled and killed a 2-month-old child baby, ripped the child’s legs off, while the child’s father was asleep in another room.

"The golden retriever-Labrador mix is not typically vicious."

If you need to call cops, before calling, better put your pets & kids inside first.

Definitely….without question.

This clown was not very observant like Officers should be, or he would have seen the dog was attached to a leash, it was restrained.

The analysis from the videos stated two shots were fired 4 seconds after the dog started barking. I really don’t know how much time the officer had to be how observant. And, yes….the dog was restrained on a leash. The leash was then attached to a runner which was strung up between two trees in the Muzzi’s backyard. Did you see anywhere the article stated how long the leash was, how far the dog could travel between the two trees on the runner, or if it were possible for the dog to have reached the officer? I did not see any of the information.

This clown should not have been issued a gun & a badge. This Barney is either just an incompetent dumbass, or he just gets a kick out of killing something, and the dog was handy. One day, karma will pay this idiot a visit.

You could be absolutely correct and if we knew the complete and true story, then I may be able to agree with you. But I can not do so simply based on what Matt Agorist, the author of this article, tells me to believe and not knowing what he intentionally neglected to tell me.

The story from a local newspaper about the incident is posted below. Like the yellow journalism article above, the local story also does not give complete details since the police never release all information when a lawsuit if probably pending. However, the article in the local newspaper is more direct and to the point, it leaves out all the biased fluff that TFTP added to influence readers.

Mississippi investigator shoots family dog

A Cleveland police officer fatally shot a family's one-year-old yellow labrador dog while it was tied to a leash.

On June 12, Tyler Muzzi returned home after lunch to discover a stranger walking back and forth outside his neighbor's home. Muzzi saw the man walk up the neighbor's driveway twice before disappearing around the opposite side of the home. Muzzi alerted the homeowner, Bryant Steele, who then called the Cleveland police.

The police arrived at Steele's home within minutes and arrested the man, who had entered his house but exited to give himself up to police.

Assuming that police were finished with the scene, Muzzi said he was surprised to hear gunshots later. Unsure of where the shots were fired, Muzzi opened his front door to see what had happened. "At first, I thought I had heard only two shots, but there were actually three that had been fired," said Muzzi. "I thought they had shot the man in custody or something."

An officer told Muzzi that his yellow labrador was shot and that he needed to check on the dog. Muzzi rushed to his backyard to find his dog, Miller, injured, while the officers and the investigator who shot the dog looked on silently, he said. The dog had been tied to a leash before the police arrived on scene. When he saw his dog lying on the ground wounded, Muzzi said he was in complete shock. Quickly, he wrapped his dog in towels and called the Cleveland Pet Clinic to say that he was coming with his injured dog. The police called animal control which arrived to help Muzzi transport his dog to the vet. The veterinarians found that Miller's spine had been severed in two places. Shortly after, the dog died.

Muzzi said the police officer who shot the dog apologized to Muzzi and told him that he felt threatened and didn't see the leash, but later on, Cleveland Police Chief Charles Bingham told Muzzi and his wife Bethany that the investigator saw the leash but had the right to shoot the dog since he felt threatened. The Muzzis were shown videos of the incident as it happened. The cameras did not capture the investigator shooting the dog. They could only hear the dog bark, and they heard the officer open fire in a span of 4 seconds in the background, Muzzi said. Bingham told Muzzi that the police department would pay for Miller's vet bill and buy another dog for his family. "That was like a slap in the face," said Muzzi. Muzzi said that Miller was a very friendly dog and was never aggressive toward strangers.

Citing potential litigation facing the police department, Bingham declined to comment at all on the story Tuesday.

The Bolivar Commercial reported that the investigator who shot the dog is currently on administrative leave.

Tyler and his wife Bethany Muzzi did not tell their 5-year-old daughter Emma that their dog had been shot. Instead, they told her that Miller had been hit by a car. "We wanted to keep her innocent," said Muzzi, "We don't want her to be scared of law enforcement."

Many people have offered to give the family a dog, but they family has declined all offers. Emma's grandmother gave her a yellow labrador clay statue which resembles her dog Miller. "(Emma) takes the clay statue to sleep, pets it, brings it food," said Muzzi, "My wife and I have been really upset about it. Just heartbroken. But Emma's been really strong."

Tyler Muzzi said the family has has been very appreciative and received overwhelming support not only from the Cleveland community but from as far as Alaska and Canada. A New York man named Nick Barone, whom the Muzzi family did not know before this incident, heard the story and created a Facebook page titled "Justice 4 Miller Muzzi" to show support for the dog and the family. The page has garnered nearly 5,000 likes since its creation last weekend.

Barone is a national director for "Freeze Don't Shoot,", an online group that creates Facebook support pages for families whose dogs are shot by police. Barone heard about the Muzzi's dog through a news article posted online and almost immediately started the Facebook page. "You have no idea how many dogs are shot daily by police," said Barone, "There was just a case in New Jersey where a police officer showed up at the wrong house and shot someone's German Shepherd. We're trying to get the word out and increase public awareness and get support." Barone believes the police do not have to answer to anyone, saying "there is no accountability and so (the police) investigate themselves and this allows them to get away with this day after day."

The cop had NO FRIGGING BUSINESS even going over there.

The dog was ON A LEASH.

The dog barked, the cop wet his pants, then the sadistic, bloodthirsty badged thug got a thrill from killing something.

The cop in this case is a sick bastard.

Anyone who can defend this has some serious mental issues.

End of fricken' story.

Because you say so?
