WASHINGTON — Donald Trump’s dream of the White House is built on the belief that America will turn to a can-do outsider, particularly a successful business tycoon, to fix the mess that is Washington. It’s likely just a dream. Voters enjoy candidates full of outrage and without ties to the byzantine, polarized, money-saturated ways of the nation’s capital. Audiences flock to hear and cheer them in New Hampshire, Iowa and elsewhere. And then they usually vote for a more statesmanlike, experienced choice. Trump, 69, the brash New York City-based billionaire businessman and television show host, plans a “major announcement” Tuesday on his presidential intentions. He’s flirted with running before, but this time he appears to be taking the steps needed to formally enter the Republican race. He’d start as a clear underdog and wouldn’t even be the favorite among outsider candidates. Former neurosurgeon Ben Carson’s supporters have spent the last year raising money and building an organization, and former business executive Carly Fiorina has drawn friendly audiences in key primary and caucus states. Trump, like Carson and Fiorina, faces another challenge: No political experience. The last president who had never run for public office was Dwight Eisenhower. While never before elected , he WAS supreme commander of the Allied forces in Europe during World War II.

Trump is a joke candidate. He is running for president as if it is a reality TV show. A lot of the candidates in the GOP seem to be in it just to raise their awareness for future work.

Here he is talking to Fox and Friends this morning about Jeb and his announcement tomorrow:
“Trump finished in the top 10 of a Quinnipiac University poll released Thursday, which could have implications for GOP debates should he decide to run. Fox News, host of the first debate on Aug. 6, has announced it would cap participation based on finishing in the top 10 of polls leading up to the debate. “The Quinnipiac poll also found that 21% of Republican voters said they would definitely not support Trump, the highest number for any of the announced and prospective GOP candidates.” But…But…But…
Trump is a Schwarzenegger RINO. He openly supports and has been the beneficiary of crony corporatism. He even favored the 'Kelo' decision about using eminient domain to support private development . Kelo would've helped him in the 90's when he tried to force an elderly woman named Vera Coking from, her home so he could add limo parking for one of his casinos. When she turned down a $1 million offer ;he tried to strong arm her and forcibly evict her with the help of the New Jersey Casino Reinvestment Authority. She filed a suit and a judge ruled her home was not 'public space'. Had this decision been post-Kelo Trump may have won. Quis custodiet ipsos custodes?
Maybe Trump did win. Coking sold her property for $530,000 in an auction on July 31, 2014. The reserve price was $199,000, a tenth of the offer Trump had made for the property eight years earlier. The owners of Trump Plaza expressed no interest in the auction. The adjacent Trump Plaza Hotel and Casino, the property for which Trump wanted Coking's property to begin with, closed on September 16, 2014 due to lack of business. I'll bet whoever bought the property for $530,000 wish they had known Trump was going to close the Trump Plaza Hotel and Casino. I'll also venture a bet that Coking now wishes she had taken Trump's offer.
You recall his last foray into presidential politics. He gassed up the Trump copter, flew up to NH, got out and greeted about 50 reporters waiting to jump him with questions, got back in his Trumpcopter and flew back to NYC and wasn't heard from again. Trump has been a registered Republican for less time than Obama has been prez. While he claims he voted for McStain in 2008, he was still a lifelong registered Dem voter (and donor) until some time in 2009.
Trump is a reality TV show star who lost his businesses years ago and is into the branding business now. Why are you treating him seriously? This is like Howard Stern running for office (which he did once as a joke).

I'll give him his due . He is successful in business.Yes he has failed in business too . But he always recovers . He works efficently . He hires many people and has a good reputation as a boss. If I was a municiple leader I would probably bring him on to move projects along. That's what he's good at . That doesn't equate to being a good President .

In the 80s Trump was at the top of his game - he fixed that ice skating rink in record time after it spent years unrepaired - got a lot of good will out of that - then he kind of became a caricature.

I'd still give top honors to Bush Senior who went to Tokyo to try to get them to allow imports of Buicks (which had been newly rebuilt to allow for right-hand drivers). At a state dinner, he threw up his suchi into the lap of the Japanese prime minister. The Japanese faint over such unhygienic incidents. The Buick deal went through without any further hitches.

3 bankruptcies and the casinos he built in Atlantic City went broke and closed (I think he had sold off his interest in them by 2014). So much of Trump's fame and fortune relies on making headlines and being a big name, nothing more. And his show, running for 14 years now, is just a big self-promotion, to build his name brand since the salary is so small it can't mean anything to Trump. It's the free PR and brand-building Trump is after with that show and perhaps with his regular threats to run for prez ever since the late Eighties. Isn't this the fourth or fifth time that The Donald has threatened to run for prez? I suppose he's fully qualified now, having finally become a registered Republican (instead of a lifelong Dem voter and donor) six years ago.
I don't think he ever threatened to run. I think he said he was considering it. A threat would be something negative. I think he offers something positive. I prefer Trump to Jeb, Carly, Christie, Kasich, Perry, Carson, ...Well put it this way I prefer him to pretty much all of them.

Trump's polling is just awful, the worst of all GOP candidates. Over 20% of Republicans said they would never vote for him. His unfavorability rating is over 60%. The list of sour stats on Trump is endless. I don't see where you get enough indy or Dem votes for Trump to overcome this huge deficit in the GOP. Keep in mind, even Trump's TV show plays well only in Blue states. Like Christie, he is from a deep Blue state and is primarily popular for his brashness and that is largely centered in Blue east coast states.

He's earned a chance to bash Jeb! [Bush] and the rest. He might be able to decrease his negative numbers, by beating up on some of these Rotten Republicans. You are lying again. I don't recall the exact curse words Trump used but he used actual curse words in a speech. That sound presidential material to you? I honestly don't understand modern conservatives. The same conservatives that for months would freak out that Obama changed the Oval Office dress rules and wore relaxed clothing / no ties but suddenly (some) conservatives are Ok with a presidential candidate that uses dirty words in campaign speeches. Nothing prevents both from being true. Net worth rarely equals total assets. I read that a lot of that is 'real estate' value which in many cases Trump does not own but licensed his name to. Trump is rich of course but there have been questions on exactly how rich he is.

I'm watching a bit of Trump's speech. Some really funny stuff in there. He's having some fun with shots at Hitlery, Jeb, Obola, etc. He's rich enough that he doesn't care what the hell he says. The media might just enjoy using Trump to gin up some ad wars. They are eager for some bloodletting. We can also recycle some old Trump 2012 graphics. He must have eaten some doughnuts before the speech because he kept spewing some crumbs or spittle when he got a little excited. There seemed to be a crumb hanging on at the right side of his mouth. We are entering the age where running for president will turn into a reality TV show like American Idol. The more outragous a candidate is the more cache they will have.

He recently called all the other candidates "assholes". He had already formed an exploratory committee, showing that his discussion of running this time had grown beyond talk.
