State Police? Riot gear? Tear gas? Seems to me they were anticipating major problems.

Gosh. Usually the crowds at a hip hop/rap concert are so well- behaved.

The natives grow dysfunctional... and the urban living ones are more dangerous because they are more dependent.

We need more prisons, stiffer sentencing... 99% of the rioters have long criminal histories and if sentenced properly, would be still in prison now victimizing each other.

Every society gets the kind of criminal it deserves. What is equally true is that every community gets the kind of law enforcement it insists on. Robert Kennedy

" State Police? Riot gear? Tear gas? Seems to me they were anticipating major problems. "

It would appear so.

" Gosh. Usually the crowds at a hip hop/rap concert are so well- behaved. "

I wouldn't know. I am not a fan of hip hop / rap. The last concert I went to was The Doobie Bros, very well behaved.

Sad, concerts should be great entertainment, not a combat zone.

Those that Deckard defends, DAILY, are those that provide the greatest reason for militarized equipment for LE.

His peers provide the greatest job security... It's hard to know if he understands he's his own biggest enemy, since he never ridicules the criminals... most liberals never do.

More prisons along the lines of "Escape from New York", or LA ? LOL Would be cheaper on the taxpayers, and recidivism would not be an issue, LOL

Carpenters idea was cool... that would work for me. It isn't really about punishment or rehabilitation. That doesn't work with dependent animals. Sentencing should be all about keeping our peers from being repeat victimized. Carpenters idea would do just that... contain the shit birds.

From another article:

"According to The Asbury Park Press, attendees became upset after gates to the Hot 97 Summer Jam concert were closed."

Was this a free concert? Must have been, if there were more attendees than stadium capacity.

I think I see the problem here.

"Carpenters idea was cool... that would work for me."

Then you'd like this. Great book. 1987.

The British government now runs island prison colonies to take dangerous offenders from its overcrowded mainland jails.

Among all these colonies, Sert, 25 miles off the north Cornish coast, has the worst reputation. There are no warders. Satellite technology is used to keep the convicts under watch. New arrivals are dumped by helicopter and must learn to survive as best they can.

To Sert, one afternoon in July, is brought Anthony John Routledge, sentenced for a sex-murder he did not commit. Routledge knows he is here forever. And he knows he must quickly forget the rules of civilized life.

But not all the islanders are savages. Under the charismatic leadership of one man a community has evolved. A community with harsh and unyielding rules, peopled by resourceful men for whom the hopeless dream of escape may not be so hopeless after all ...

I have seen them three times. Once with McDonald, once with 'Skunk" Baxter, always a great concert. They were a group for all time!!

Didn't Mexico once offer to take our prisoners -- for an annual fee, of course.

We could save a ton of money and Mexico would get U.S. dollars. Win- win.

(Well, Win-Win-Lose if you include the prisoners.)

Hell, a lot of our prisoners are illegals anyways. They'd be close to family and friends. Closer, anyways.

It's obvious from their equipment that the police planned to riot. Just look at them, and you can tell what they have planned.

No surprise. Why are they being paid to riot, so that the D&R party can use it as an election issue?

You mean, "... planned for a riot."

Hey, a hip hop/rap concert, free admission, not enough room -- what could possibly go wrong?

The place looks trashed…

If I remember correctly an ACDC concert in the late 80s had a similar riot but the police did not show up to it. They just let the idiots throw beer bottles at each other for a few hours.

"They just let the idiots throw beer bottles at each other for a few hours."

That's my solution. Instead of calling for the police, call for a construction crew to put a chain-link fence around the rioters.

Then call the police to keep them inside for 48 hours.

Juz niggas do-IN what niggas do.

If you want to pose as a gangsta, there are going to be times when you have to act like a gangsta, and a Hip Hop concert is nothing but a celebration of gangsta activity so what better place to act out?
