Former Texas Gov. Rick Perry announced his 2016 presidential campaign Thursday, hoping the second time's the charm after his 2012 bid fizzled following a debate gaffe and other challenges.

The three-term Republican governor, who has spent months traveling and studying policy issues in preparation for another run, made it official at an event in Addison, Texas.

"Today, I am running for the presidency of the United States of America," Perry said.

Perry railed against the economic and foreign policy record of the Obama administration, calling the former a result of tax-and-regulatory policies. On foreign policy, Perry faulted leaders of both parties for making "grave mistakes" in Iraq but said President Obama "failed to secure the peace," with the Islamic State now seizing cities American troops fought for.

For those keeping score at home the below is a link to all declared candidates. Both known names and some, not so.

Not only "no",but HELL NO!

Maybe it's not fair, but I could support a law making it illegal for any Texas politician to hold office outside the state of Texas.

Perry was stoned out of mind on pain killers from his back surgery when he entered the race in 2012. Bad move.

Hopefully he is better this time.

" 2016 Declared Presidential Candidates "

A rather large list. More than I was aware of.

It is a large enough list, it will look like a NYC phone book.

Oh well, Al Franken & Cynthia McKinney will be good for a number of laughs. In a debate, maybe they can get Franken to do his imitation of Paul Simon. Cynthia just being herself will be quite hilarious.

"Today, I am running for the presidency of the United States of America," Perry said.

There is one little problem about his hopes and aspirations ... he isn't selected by the powers that dictate America's direction.

I am angry because I was going to announce my candidacy for POTUS today. Now he stole my thunder.

I did watch a bit of Perry's speech. He was really perspiring a lot. Like Nixon debating Kennedy.

Perry is on my short list .During his tenure ,Texas attracted business at a time where almost every other state was losing jobs . He's not perfect...none of them are . But he was a very successful governor .He's as solid on conservative issues as most of the other candidates .

He's former military which is a rarity among the possible contenders (I think only Linsey Graham is another former military ). I think he can win the support of TP Republicans, evangelical voters ,and even (dare I say it ) establishment Republicans .

Of the former Governors that are declared or likely to declare ,he's second on my list below Scott Walker . But if I looked at it from an electoral map then maybe Perry would be the better choice. Walker could be his running mate .

Have to add Michael Bloomberg. There is a movement among so called 'No Label ' Dems to draft him. He has the money to finance his own campaign so he would not be afraid to match Evita dollar for dollar in the primaries.

But if I looked at it from an electoral map then maybe Perry would be the better choice.

The Republicans are going to win Texas no matter who they nominate.

But the GOP cannot win the Presidency without the swing state of Ohio. John Kasich won re-election in Ohio in 2014 by a whopping 31 points. Who does this in a swing state? In addition, Kasich would have a great chance of winning another big Midwestern state -- Michigan -- that GOP Presidential candidates used to regularly win but haven't won since 1988.

Kasich also has strong credentials at the federal level, balancing the budget while he was House Budget Chairman and leaving a projected $5 trillion surplus over 10 years that Bush squandered.

It looks like Kasich is going to get into the race. Given the electoral map, the GOP would be fools not to nominate him.

From strictly an electoral perspective, Kasich should put Rubio on the ticket to ensure a win in Florida. Ohio (18), Michigan (16) and Florida (29) -- add those 63 electoral votes to the 206 that Romney won and Kasich would only be 1 vote shy. There are several places where Kasich / Rubio might be able to pick that up.

ok I'll concede the electoral math. How is Kasich on Federalism ? Perry is a solid 10th amendment advocate .Didn't Kasich cave on Medicaid expansion ?

Look, I like Rick Perry. I thought we were talking about electoral math.

Kasich is an all around solid guy -- economic conservative and social conservative. But like everyone, he has his flaws. Paul, Perry and Cruz would be much better on the 10th Amendment than the rest of the field. No question.

The worst people on the 10th Amendment would by Chrisie and Santorum.
