(CNN)After decades of a downward trend in crime, residents in some large U.S. cities wonder if a reversal is coming. If you live in Baltimore, you know that May, with 43 homicides, was the deadliest month since 1972. Or if you are a Houstonian, you've probably heard that murders were up 45% through April compared to the same period in 2014. The latest statistics in Milwaukee show a 103% spike in murders year-to-date compared with a year ago. The spike in killings in these major cities would be troubling in itself at any time, but it is especially troubling now, when policing practices, race and social policies are regularly in the news. Answer: Yes... and no. Crime is no longer crime. It is only a rational response or legitimate reaction to, the criminal's having been hypothetically victimized by an earlier, or concurrent, social environment. The stigma has been erased. If the perpetrator of what used to be criminality can declare himself as some sort of victim, with the help of various lawyers and social agitators he is made into a hero instead of a thug..
The police are staging a go-slow tactic. Enforcement is down substantially in many communities just as the states are setting records at paroling long-term felons, many of them serving hard time for serious crimes and very unlikely to have been rehabilitated in prison so they'll return to major crimes on release from prison. It's a perfect storm for a rapid rise in crime across the nation, particularly in the most populous states. The area from NYC to Miami will see the biggest rises but California won't be far behind. I think the stats next year will show that 2015 was a field day for sex offenders of all stripes.
I couldn't even find any crime statistics for my town.
No surprise. LF's readers trend strongly rural, very few metro types here.

I believe you analysis is spot on correct and your prediction will be proven true.
Yup. Also, frisking suspicious people and profiling works. In NYC there was a push back against random searches of people and when the police eased up on it criminals knew it was safe to carry fire arms again. New York had low crime and low gun violence while it had strict gun laws but the crime was low because of the police tactics not the laws banning guns.
Interesting piece by Instapundit. Notice they are skulking around fair use doctrine with a post containing paywalled WSJ content. They're on the line but get away with it as they do report news and commentary and wrote a short one-liner comment at the end of the blog post. Anyway, it brought to mind the recent fair use debate here at LF. With that Boshevik mayor they elected, NYC will end up in a real tire fire. Giuliani really cleaned it up, Bloomy kept on the same steady course generally. This new mayor is going to throw NYC in the toilet, like Dinkins did or worse. You can't feel too sorry for NYC. Their politics and their liberal naivete always bring down any real hard-won advances for the city. Most of the time, it is because various loathsome elements like Al Sharpton are pulling various stunts to the detriment of the city and civic life.

I think the stats next year will show that 2015 was a field day for sex offenders of all stripes. This is why I stocked up on ammo, target and defensive. More significantly this is why I am now using my CWP and carrying concealed just about everywhere I go, especially to public places such as a mall. Bought a couple of nice IWB holsters that conceal very well (even with just wearing shorts and a shirt). It took a little time but I now feel very comfortable packing both my Glock and alternatively my snub nose S&W. I just pray that I never have a need to use them. потому что Бог хочет это тот путь
