Minnesota police officer Rod Webber was caught on camera in March threatening 17-year-old Hamza Jeylani, as you can see in the short video on KMSP-TV. Jeylani was in the car with his three friends after playing basketball at the YMCA when they were pulled over. The teens were compliant when asked who owned the vehicle, but were nonetheless pulled from the car. Jeylani filmed as Webber threatened him, saying, “Plain and simple, if you fuck with me, I’m going to break your leg before you get the chance to run. I’m being honest; I don’t screw around.” “I never said I was going to run,” Joyland says in response. Webber replies “I’m just giving you a heads up. Just trying to be officer friendly right now.” According to the ACLU, “police said the stolen car they were after was a blue Honda Civic. The teenagers, however, were driving a blue Toyota Camry.” In addition, Jeylani asserts that the driver of the vehicle had documentation proving him to be the owner. Despite this evidence clearing the kids, the cops cuffed them all and made them wait an hour while searching the vehicle and doing background checks on all four teens, Faysal Mohamed told My Fox Twin Cities. “Can you tell me why I’m being arrested?” asked the Jeylani, to which Webber replied, “Because I feel like arresting you.” According to ThinkProgress, the video was released with a report on racial arrest patterns in the city of Minneapolis. According to the report, African American teens who live in Minneapolis “are 8.7 times more likely than white people to be arrested for low-level offenses, like trespassing, disorderly conduct, consuming in public, and lurking,” while Native Americans are “8.6 times more likely to be arrested for low-level offenses than white people.” All four of the boys were of Somali descent, and believe they were the victims of racial profiling. They planned to file a complaint. Minneapolis PD claimed the case will be investigated. Webber has been on vacation since May 6th and he’s yet to face any charges. Not surprisingly, the children no longer feel safe around police. Liban Yusuf, 18, told My Fox, “They had their guns drawn. I don’t know why they were so aggressive.” Faysal Mohamed stated, “Anytime I see the police I get scared.” Good work, officers.

"Give me your phone" That is time to hit the upload button. I am white and where I live the police have always been polite and professional with me, nothing like this. I also drive the plainest car. But it seems that if they (black males) are pulled over with a friend or friends everyone should turn their phone cams on to record it.

That's because they are 100 times more likely to commit these crimes. Having said that,the only one who needs to be arrested in this case was the cop.

Have you lost your bleeping mind? Cops that can get away with this on black kids can also get away with it on white kids as long as they don't have wealthy or connected fathers. How much would you cheer for the cops if they treated your children that way for no reason at all other than "they can"?

I'm guessing it's because African American teens who live in Minneapolis are 8.7 times more likely than white people to commit those crimes. If the author has proof to the contrary, he certainly hasn't presented it.
The YouTube video is titled: "A Minneapolis police officer has been suspended with pay after this video of a traffic stop appeared on social media." But according to the article, "Webber has been on vacation since May 6th and he’s yet to face any charges." What's gong on here? Besides your continuing yellow journalism.

When I say three, Pete, is doesn't necessarily mean only three, but, before Google decided to not track "And the police make three more enemies." Google ling "And the police make three more enemies." would show you how many times, I have said it and how many times the police had abused someone or killed a dog or raped a girl or killed a child under five. Multiply all those times by as little as three brings you to a number that was staggering, multiply them by what would be a truer number like 100 and you could start to see why so many cops are now being killed. Pete some of those numbers are men who bide their time till the time is right. And then they drop the hammer.

The video was rolling the entire time he didn't say anything that would have provoked the cop.
I assume you didn't watch it. The video started as he was getting out of the car.

I am not sure why it is acceptable for a LEO, that should be a professional at his job, to threaten suspects or others they come in contact with in the manner that he did. Surely for that reason alone, if for nothing else on the video or during the event, this should anger you and anyone else that learns the story. Unfortunately our society celebrates rogue cop behavior as it does on TV, perpetuating a system of normalized abuse that blames the victim for the actions of the abuser. If this cop was under my supervision I would seriously consider firing such a loser at some point in the future, especially if this type of behavior continued. I am sure you can come up with some reason why his behavior is perfectly fine from your point of view, MisterWhite.

They cannot lawfully just stop the pay of a government employee without giving him due process. He would normally be placed on administrative paid leave until the agency resolves the issue.

And it is not just cops but all government employees. The law recognizes the government employee has a property interest in his job. There are some strange legal beliefs running around.

The LEOBoR protects police officers from being treated as we are treated during criminal investigations: questioned unmercifully for hours on end, harassed, harangued, browbeaten, denied food, water and bathroom breaks, subjected to hostile interrogations, and left in the dark about our accusers and any charges and evidence against us.
