Minnesota police officer Rod Webber was caught on camera in March threatening 17-year-old Hamza Jeylani, as you can see in the short video on KMSP-TV.
Jeylani was in the car with his three friends after playing basketball at the YMCA when they were pulled over. The teens were compliant when asked who owned the vehicle, but were nonetheless pulled from the car. Jeylani filmed as Webber threatened him, saying,
Plain and simple, if you fuck with me, Im going to break your leg before you get the chance to run. Im being honest; I dont screw around.
I never said I was going to run, Joyland says in response.
Webber replies Im just giving you a heads up. Just trying to be officer friendly right now.
According to the ACLU, police said the stolen car they were after was a blue Honda Civic. The teenagers, however, were driving a blue Toyota Camry. In addition, Jeylani asserts that the driver of the vehicle had documentation proving him to be the owner. Despite this evidence clearing the kids, the cops cuffed them all and made them wait an hour while searching the vehicle and doing background checks on all four teens, Faysal Mohamed told My Fox Twin Cities.
Can you tell me why Im being arrested? asked the Jeylani, to which Webber replied, Because I feel like arresting you.
According to ThinkProgress, the video was released with a report on racial arrest patterns in the city of Minneapolis. According to the report, African American teens who live in Minneapolis are 8.7 times more likely than white people to be arrested for low-level offenses, like trespassing, disorderly conduct, consuming in public, and lurking, while Native Americans are 8.6 times more likely to be arrested for low-level offenses than white people.
All four of the boys were of Somali descent, and believe they were the victims of racial profiling. They planned to file a complaint. Minneapolis PD claimed the case will be investigated. Webber has been on vacation since May 6th and hes yet to face any charges.
Not surprisingly, the children no longer feel safe around police. Liban Yusuf, 18, told My Fox, They had their guns drawn. I dont know why they were so aggressive.
Faysal Mohamed stated, Anytime I see the police I get scared.

That's because they are 100 times more likely to commit these crimes.
Having said that, the only one who needs to be arrested in this case was the cop.
Why is democracy held in such high esteem when its the enemy of the minority and makes all rights relative to the dictates of the majority? (Ron Paul,2012)
Cops that can get away with this on black kids can also get away with it on white kids as long as they don't have wealthy or connected fathers.
How much would you cheer for the cops if they treated your children that way for no reason at all other than "they can"?

More than 3 because Somalis tend to have huge families, and you can bet everybody is mad over this.

"According to the report, African American teens who live in Minneapolis are 8.7 times more likely than white people to be arrested for low-level offenses, like trespassing, disorderly conduct, consuming in public, and lurking,
I'm guessing it's because African American teens who live in Minneapolis are 8.7 times more likely than white people to commit those crimes.
If the author has proof to the contrary, he certainly hasn't presented it.
But according to the article, "Webber has been on vacation since May 6th and hes yet to face any charges."
What's gong on here?
Gee, suspended with pay sounds like a vacation to me.

When I say three, Pete, is doesn't necessarily mean only three, but, before Google decided to not track "And the police make three more enemies." Google ling "And the police make three more enemies." would show you how many times, I have said it and how many times the police had abused someone or killed a dog or raped a girl or killed a child under five.
Multiply all those times by as little as three brings you to a number that was staggering, multiply them by what would be a truer number like 100 and you could start to see why so many cops are now being killed.
Pete some of those numbers are men who bide their time till the time is right. And then they drop the hammer.

Hamza Jeylani is Somali.
Is it now SOP for cops to threaten drivers during traffic stops?
In what world is that acceptable?

Pretty sure that was sarcasm, although it won't surprise me to see some of LF's vehement cop worshipers use words to that effect.

What did Hamza Jeylani say to the cop before he started recording?
The video was rolling the entire time he didn't say anything that would have provoked the cop.

The video started as he was getting out of the car.
Oh - and you "think" he said something to provoke the cop?

Why else would a cop start off a traffic stop by threatening to break the guy's legs?
Good grief man!

What did Hamza Jeylani say to the cop before he started recording? Did Hamza Jeylani threaten the cop?
I am not sure why it is acceptable for a LEO, that should be a professional at his job, to threaten suspects or others they come in contact with in the manner that he did.
Surely for that reason alone, if for nothing else on the video or during the event, this should anger you and anyone else that learns the story. Unfortunately our society celebrates rogue cop behavior as it does on TV, perpetuating a system of normalized abuse that blames the victim for the actions of the abuser.
If this cop was under my supervision I would seriously consider firing such a loser at some point in the future, especially if this type of behavior continued.
I am sure you can come up with some reason why his behavior is perfectly fine from your point of view, MisterWhite.
"I am sure you can come up with some reason why his behavior is perfectly fine from your point of view, MisterWhite."
If the punk was mouthing off, he doesn't deserve any respect from the cop. The cop's mistake was that he was recorded. For that he should be reprimanded.
As for a reason, this article explains it better than I can:
Gee, suspended with pay sounds like a vacation to me.
They cannot lawfully just stop the pay of a government employee without giving him due process. He would normally be placed on administrative paid leave until the agency resolves the issue.

As I've pointed out numerous times, Deckard doesn't believe in due process for cops or any other constitutional protection.
Every society gets the kind of criminal it deserves. What is equally true is that every community gets the kind of law enforcement it insists on. Robert Kennedy
And as has been pointed out to you, numerous times; ---
All of us, cops and civilians, are honor bound to support and defend our constitution. --- Thus, when a 'law' is passed that obviously violates our constitution, we are ALL honor bound to at least ignore it, -- or even to actively disobey it, and fight against it.
Again, obviously, grandisland isn't smart enough to understand this concept.
There are some strange legal beliefs running around.
And most of the strange legal beliefs running around, -- benefit lawyers, and were formulated and taught in the nation's liberal, anti-constitutional law schools...

Not only are officers given a 10-day cooling-off period during which they cannot be forced to make any statements about the incident, but when they are questioned, it must be for a reasonable length of time, at a reasonable hour, by only one or two investigators (who must be fellow policemen), and with plenty of breaks for food and water.
If a department decides to pursue a complaint against an officer, the department must notify the officer and his union.
The officer must be informed of the complainants, and their testimony against him, before he is questioned.
During questioning, investigators may not harass, threaten, or promise rewards to the officer, as interrogators not infrequently do to civilian suspects.
Bathroom breaks are assured during questioning.
In Maryland, the officer may appeal his case to a hearing board, whose decision is binding, before a final decision has been made by his superiors about his discipline. The hearing board consists of three of the suspected offenders fellow officers.
In some jurisdictions, the officer may not be disciplined if more than a certain number of days (often 100) have passed since his alleged misconduct, which limits the time for investigation.
Even if the officer is suspended, the department must continue to pay salary and benefits, as well as the cost of the officers attorney.
Its a pretty sweet deal if you can get it, I suppose: protection from the courts, immunity from wrongdoing, paid leave while youre under investigation, and the assurance that you wont have to spend a dime of your own money in your defense. And yet these LEOBoR epitomize everything that is wrong with America today.
