Gwinnett County, GA A 9-1-1 call for help tragically ended after police gunned down the man in need of assistance.
Officers were responding to a 9-1-1 about 72-year-old Joseph Roy. Roys neighbor placed the call and said Roy was suicidal.
Minutes after arriving, Gwinnett County police officers opened fire on Roy, a cancer patient who had been barricaded in his bathroom. He was hit twice and died.
According to Sherry Lang with the Georgia Bureau of Investigation, The subject opened the door, and started yelling threats at the officers and then charged the officers with a knife.
He was armed with a steak knife.
Apparently the officers feared for their lives as an elderly cancer patient hobbled toward them with an eating utensil. Instead of simply running away, or deploying a taser, or pepper spray, they decided it would be best to use lethal force and end the mans life.
According to WSB TV, within minutes of the initial call Gwinnett police commanders, including Chief Butch Ayers, along with GBI agents, flooded the scene looking for evidence and interviewing neighbors who heard parts of the confrontation.
It seems Roy was given very little time by officers. Instead of trying to diffuse the situation and waiting for the 72-year-old to calm down, police quickly escalated to a violent end.
He always talked about he lived a full life and, you know, God gave him the break, and thats what it is and hed have to deal with it, Myra Desta, a friend of the family said. I never once heard that he wanted to hurt himself.
Sadly, this mans life was prematurely brought to an end by people who claim to protect him. Tis the nature of modern police in America, however.
Coincidentally, exactly one year ago, video was released showing police officers in Fort Bend, Texas shooting and killing Michael Blair. His family had also called 9-1-1 for help. He was also in the bathroom with a knife.
If we need a reenactment of Roys situation, it probably went something like this.

That pretty much says it all, I wonder why they killed him.
Well, I guess they were in fear for their lives, and they wanted to go home safe that night.
Bob, if these kind of guys ever encountered real force, they would fold like a cheap suit. If these are the kind of guys we have to rely on to keep us safe, it is a good thing I am armed, and know how to use my arms!

The video is fully justified. Hell, other than taser itself does not recommend using a taser on a subject holding an edged weapon, its text book... and the person holding the knife forced the shooting.

I can't believe you try to hide behind the Taser manual on so many threads. It's lame.
I don't hide behind anything. I merely report facts. It is fact that Taser Does not recommend tasing an edged weapon holder. It is fact that if an officer does, and the tased subject falls on the knife and dies, the officer will lose a lawsuit and probably his career. It is fact that past USSC cases have authorized deadly physical force during the same circumstances as this video... so given those FACTS, it was more prudent and safer for the officer both physically and financially, to have just shot the threat.
I don't make this shit up, I just report how it is... the reality of situations. I'll leave the hiding behind to the yella, slanted garbage of Deckard. He doesn't convey what it is. He doesn't convey reality. He conveys what he would like to further his anti police, pro drug agenda. That's HIDING behind an AGENDA. I hide behind nothing... I just report to you that it is what it is... and it's become that way because of the actions and lawsuits of your peers.

It's nonsense and you know it.
That wouldn't happen once in a thousand such encounters. Probably not in ten thousand encounters.
And shooting someone full of bullets to avoid a 1:10000 chance of falling on an edged weapon (very unlikely to be fatal) is ridiculous. It's nothing but an excuse to shoot civilians, in this case, a 72yo sick man who hobbled around.
Hey, I think Miranda is idiotic... but I gotta live with what it is.

You aren't the one in jeopardy of being sued from your keyboard... Hundreds of thousands of officers get sued over bullshit... and you don't want them to make the best decision based on training, regardless the odds?
I suggest you call taser inc. Get their training syllabus changed.

Good grief man, is there anything in this world that you pussy cops are NOT afraid of?
