Autobahn Wasserstoff-Tankstelle eröffnet

As part of the Clean Energy Partnership (CEP), Daimler, Linde and Total have jointly taken an important step forward in the expansion of Germany’s hydrogen (H2) infrastructure. Earlier today, Germany's first motorway hydrogen filling station was officially inaugurated.

The new H2 filling pump at the Total motorway service area in Geiselwind on the A3 between Würzburg and Nuremberg links the existing filling facilities in the metropolitan regions of Frankfurt/Main, Stuttgart and Munich with each other, forming a hub for electric fuel cell vehicles in southern Germany.

In her opening speech, Dorothee Bär, Parliamentary State Secretary at the Federal Ministry of Transport and Digital Infrastructure, said: “Electric vehicles with hydrogen fuel cell drives produce no harmful emissions. They have a long range and can refuel in minutes. Politics, science and industry have worked together to bring hydrogen mobility to the brink of market entry. Together with industry, we have provided a total of 1.4 billion euros (Rs 10,701 crore) for research, development and demonstration projects up until 2016. We are now increasingly tackling the development of infrastructure: by the end of 2015, 50 hydrogen filling stations will be available in metropolitan areas and along major roads. The new filling station in Geiselwind brings us one step closer to this target. The nearly one million euros (Rs 7.6 crore) of funding spent on the construction of this filling station is money well spent because good infrastructure is a prerequisite for this new form of mobility to really catch on!”.

“Networking the national H2 infrastructure is the key to success for the market introduction of electric vehicles with fuel cells. Only then can they be a ‘real’ alternative for customers,” said Prof. Dr Herbert Kohler, Vice President Group Research and Sustainability and Chief Environmental Officer at Daimler AG. “That's why we are not only actively investing in the development of the next generation of vehicles, but we are the only car manufacturer to invest in the development of a nationwide network of filling stations in Germany.”...snip

I don't know. Using the words hydrogen, transportation and Germany together in one sentence gives me the willies.

As in, that's how many hydrogen fueling stations they've built? LOL

One down, ten thousand to go.

Pssst- Bob...er...Misterwhite- It's 2015.

And it's Japan, ironically, that is leading the Hydrogen Revolution. Do you ever think they think too hard about that? Because, you know, the US is the only nation to ever drop two (2) nuclear bombs (hydrogen!) on civilians.

Actually they should prohibit the shipment of their new gas free car to any American territory, don't you think?

Which is the most severe problem of yours, the reading part or the comprehension part? But you don't even know about hydrogen in your own country, so it's no surprise that you're clueless about Germany.

We dropped a crude shotgun-style uranium bomb and a small plutonium bomb. Hydrogen bombs came later in the early Fifties with high-yield lithium casings to drive up yields, the reason for so many nuclear tests.

Hey, I'm not the one dancing joyously over some press release that Germany finally has one hydrogen refueling station.

Give them a year or two and maybe they'll have a dozen.

"the US is the only nation to ever drop two (2) nuclear bombs (hydrogen!) on civilians."

Those were atomic (fission) bombs.

The thermonuclear (hydrogen fusion) bomb wasn't even tested until 1952, and was never used against anyone.

Hey, I'm not the one dancing joyously over some press release that Germany finally has one hydrogen refueling station.

Apparently you didn't read the part in the post about the Hamburg Hydrogen station (opened in 2012) that makes 375 Kilograms of Hydrogen from electrolysis PER DAY. Is it a reading problem or a comprehension problem?

Give them a year or two and maybe they'll have a dozen.

Once again, you think you're an expert on something you know absolutely NOTHING about. It's a disease that is rampant in "Exceptional America".

German Government announces support for 50 urban hydrogen refuelling stations

Federal Transport Minister Peter Ramsauer together with industry partners Daimler, Linde, Air Products, Air Liquide and Total on June 20, 2012 announced the foundation for a nationwide network of hydrogen refuelling stations in Germany.

As part of the National Hydrogen and Fuel Cell Technology Innovation Programme(NIP), Germany’s hydrogen refuelling infrastructure will be expanded from the current 14 stations (now 15) to a total of 50 sites by 2015, as research and development projects. The funding amounts to €20 million.

Minister Ramsauer, referring to the benefits of fuel cell vehicles, indicated that a hydrogen station network covering the main urban areas is necessary to facilitate the launch of fuel cell vehicles in 2015 as announced by the main car manufacturers. The stations will form the basis for a wider, needs-based infrastructure for refuelling hydrogen fuel cell vehicles throughout the country.

Recently similar natinal intiatives were announced in the UK, France in addition to ongoing developments in Denmark, Norway and Sweden.

The most shocking thing- besides the fact that so many have trouble with reading and or comprehension is that Japan has perfected a car that NEEDS NO GASOLINE and so many don't care- or don't understand. Germany and Japan deserve to lead the way out of the petrodollar because present day Americans just can't do it.

In Germany as of September 2013 there are 15 publicly available hydrogen fuel station in operation.[16] Most but not all of these stations are operated by partners of the Clean Energy Partnership.[17] The stations nationwide are expanded to 50 by 2015 under a letter of intent[18][19] through its public private partnership Now GMBH.[20] program NIP[21] with a subsidy of 20 Million Euro.,[22] the H2 Mobility initiative wants to raise that number to 100 stations from 2015 to 2017 and to 400 stations in 2023 at a cost of €350 million Euro.

Japan had a number of hydrogen filling stations under the JHFC project from 2002 to 2010 to test various technologies of hydrogen generation.[5] At the end of 2012 there were 17 hydrogen stations, 19 new stations are expected to be installed by 2015.,[6] the Government expects to add up to 100 hydrogen stations under a budget of 460 million dollars covering 50% of the installation costs with the last ones operational in 2015.[7][8] JX Energy expects to install 40 stations by 2015.[9] and another 60 in the period 2016-2018[10] Toho Gas and Iwatani Corp[11] expect to install an additional 20 stations.[12] Toyota Tsusho and Air Liquide made a JV to build 2 hydrogen stations to be ready by 2015.[13] Osaka Gas planned 2 stations for 2014-2015.[14] A "task force" led by Yuriko Koike, Japan's former environment minister, and supported by the country's Liberal Democratic Party was set up to guide the process.

South Korea had 11 hydrogen stations in operation in 2014 another 10 stations are planned for 2020

You might be surprised at what you see at this link: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hydrogen_station

Here's how easy it is to open a Hydrogen station in 48 hours anywhere there is water and electricity. Mass produced, these stations could probably be built for under $500,000 each- maybe less. Electrolyzers, tanks, metering equipment and a pump- all in a handy container that can be trucked anywhere. How expensive could it be?

I know you love to post this press release material over and over but hydrogen is not going to arrive fast and oil isn't going away that quickly.

I think it will take at least 5 years to have 5% of the market served by hydrogen vehicles. We're likely talking about a few decades to transition to a new energy source for mass transportation.

Even the biggest hydrogen promoters like Honda only anticipate producing thousands of cars per year until after 2020. What is needed to have real impact is the capacity to produce millions of cars and other vehicles per year. And a fully built-out fuel system. Not 50 fueling stations in Germany but more like 5,000.

Whatever the merits of hydrogen, it just isn't going to arrive very quickly, not in Europe, not in America, not even in Japan.

Or if one of them goes up in one of the biggest explosions Germany has ever seen maybe they will decide it's a bad idea after all.

“Political correctness is a doctrine, fostered by a delusional, illogical minority, and rapidly promoted by mainstream media, which holds forth the proposition that it is entirely possible to pick up a turd by the clean end.”
