No getting around that even if Gray had alleged self inflicted injuries. Once a 'collar' is in your charge you are responsible for their health and welfare no matter what they were doing. What I find interesting is the comment about an 'illegal arrest.' Switchblades are illegal for all in Baltimore. Cops can't have them, though police are allowed to have a lot of stuff like brass knuckles and blackjacks. If he was knowingly arrested falsely, then this is really bad for the cops, as it adds malicious intent to the whole event. Baltimore streets are not that bad, either, so it's possible the driver may have been having a bit of "fun" by purposely handling the van roughly. Apparently, he was arrested for the illegal switchblade after averting his eyes from the police. The illegal arrest is because of grounds of reasonable suspicion, not because he didn't have the switchblade he was arrested for.
