Researchers have been studying the medical benefits of marijuana for years, but this month marks the first time the National Institute on Drug Abuse (NIDA), a research group funded by the US government, has acknowledged that cannabis extracts may help kill certain cancer cells and reduce the size of others.
NIDA quietly revised a page on its website titled, "DrugFacts: Is Marijuana Medicine?" this month to state that, "Evidence from one cell culture study suggests that purified extracts from whole-plant marijuana can slow the growth of cancer cells from one of the most serious types of brain tumors."
The update acknowledges research published last November in the journal Molecular Cancer Therapies by scientists from St. George's, University of London. The researchers found that THC, the main psychoactive ingredient in weed, and cannabidiol, an extract, caused "dramatic reductions" in the growth of glioma tumors in mice. Glioma accounts for 80 percent of malignant brain tumors in humans.
"We've shown that cannabinoids could play a role in treating one of the most aggressive cancers in adults," Dr. Wai Liu, lead author of the study, wrote in an op-ed for the Huffington Post last year. Previous studies have shown that THC may have anti-tumor benefits, but the wrong dose can potentially increase the size of tumors.
Marijuana's legal status and the stigma surrounding the plant have significantly hindered scientific research of its potential benefits. It is still considered a Schedule I controlled substance, alongside heroin, LSD, ecstasy, and other drugs the US government says have "no currently accepted medical use and a high potential for abuse."... Preclinical studies of cannabinoids have investigated the following activities:
Antitumor activity
Studies in mice and rats have shown that cannabinoids may inhibit tumor growth by causing cell death, blocking cell growth, and blocking the development of blood vessels needed by tumors to grow. Laboratory and animal studies have shown that cannabinoids may be able to kill cancer cells while protecting normal cells.
A study in mice showed that cannabinoids may protect against inflammation of the colon and may have potential in reducing the risk of colon cancer, and possibly in its treatment.
A laboratory study of delta-9-THC in hepatocellular carcinoma (liver cancer) cells showed that it damaged or killed the cancer cells. The same study of delta-9-THC in mouse models of liver cancer showed that it had antitumor effects. Is this true….NIDA acknowledged this….where?
All I find is NIDA simply mentioned the results of a new study funded by a research grant awarded t0 W.M. Liu from GW Pharmaceuticals Ltd., Salisbury, United Kingdom.
I find nowhere that "NIDA endorsed the study or acknowledged that marijuana may help fight brain tumors."
Can anyone find where NIDA did this?
Potheads are so desperate to promote marijuana, they latch onto anything to make erroneous implications.
I of course stand to be corrected….simply show me the evidence.

You're stuck in the '70s. Saying "try to keep up" would be a waste of time. We just wanted to be left alone. If you're not free to smoke a plant you don't live in a free country, do you.
THC KILLS CANCER CELLS. It's really that simple. The weed the government declared war on is not just medicine, but food (seeds), fiber (stalks) and fuel (oil from seeds). They lied. Period, end of story. You can't accept this so denial is all you have. And rude, intrusive, flashing graphics sometimes.
