I'm always learning.... This I had not heard before.

Why did Jesus fold the linen burial cloth after His Resurrection?

The Gospel of John (20: 7) tells us that the napkin, which was placed over the face of Jesus, was not just thrown aside like the grave clothes. The Bible takes an entire verse to tell us that the napkin was neatly folded, and was placed at the head of that stony coffin.

Is that important? You'd better believe it! Is that Significant? Absolutely! Is it really significant? Yes!

In order to understand the significance of the folded napkin, you have to understand a little bit about Hebrew tradition of that day.

The folded napkin had to do with the Master and servant, and every Jewish boy knew this tradition. When the servant set the dinner table for the master, he made sure that it was exactly the way the master wanted it. The table was furnished perfectly, and then the servant would wait, just out of sight, until the master had finished eating, and the servant would not dare touch that table, until the master was finished.

Now if the master had finished eating, he would rise from the table, wipe his fingers and his mouth, and clean his beard, and would then wad up that napkin and toss it onto the table. The servant would then know to clear the table for in those days, the wadded napkin meant, "I'm Done." But if the master got up from the table and folded his napkin and laid it beside his plate, the servant would not dare touch the table, because the servant knew that the folded napkin meant, "I'm not finished yet."

The folded napkin meant, "I'm coming back!"

The folded napkin meant, "I'm coming back!"

There is hope for the righteous, after all.

And terror for the evil-doers.

"If America is destroyed, it may be by Americans who salute the flag, sing the national anthem, march in patriotic parades, cheer Fourth of July speakers - normally good Americans who fail to comprehend what is required to keep our country strong and free - Americans who have been lulled into a false security (April 1968)." ---Ezra Taft Benson,

This is a classic example of people taking their understanding of their own current situation and context and transplanting it back on a situation to which it doesn't apply and then drawing erroneous conclusions.

Maybe, maybe not. I'm not an expert on the napkin folding practice of the ancients. I thought it was interesting though. And maybe even accurate.

Are you an expert in ancient Eastern customs, Mr. Pagan?

Your comments betray a bit of fear and denial of your future.

My first clue was, one napkin is ancient burial item and the other napkin is thing for wiping grease off your face when eating.

If someone says, "I'm coming back" you don't really need to watch them fold a napkin to see if there is a hidden clue that means they are coming back.

LOL

I agree with you that when Christ said he was coming back that that should be enough for his followers. But something things that happen in the Bible are confirmed and re confirmed. This could be such a case. Also why take the time to note it in the word it it was just a napkin? Either way it isn't an earth shattering revelation.

I agree there must be some importance to it or it wouldn't be noted, and it could just be a simple re-affirmation -- except for the non sequitor of a dinner napkin being equated with a burial napkin.

Maybe I should look up what 'non sequitor' means, but I think you get the point. Besides, screw Latin. I hate when people use it on forums .... like I did.

That photo and tagline of yours is pure paranoia, Charlie Brown.

That dude in the photo is a loser. He can't see in himself what others see: obvious character flaws. He looks in a mirror, gets scared and turns away, and immediately forgets what he saw in the mirror.

Your photo and tagline are socially and culturally disfunctional.

You have a point, but a good house nigger wouldn't complain much if a ball and chain were used for outdoor events.
